INTRODUCTIONHello.I sincerely thank-you for purchasingLo-Bak TRAX. Lo-Bak TRAX was designed tooffer a simpler way to perform spinal tractionfor people suffering with low back pain. The saying, “necessity is the mother of all inventions” is certainly appropriate here. I conceived the idea of Lo-Bak TRAX after suffering with chronic low back pain for most of myadult life. Each decade my back became stifferand stiffer with more pain. I suffer from acondition that causes frequent tightening ofthe muscles and soft tissues surrounding thespine. As a practicing Chiropractor for 15 years, Itried everything to control my pain. Initially Istarted with a stretch that duplicates whatLo-Bak TRAX does, but my patients had ahard time understanding where exactly toplace their hands and how to push. I kepttelling my wife, “If I just had a device thatpatients could put against their legs andpush with,” they would really benefit fromthis new approach to spinal traction I hadinvented. That’s how it all started, one day I starteddrawing, several prototypes and a patent application later and here we are!I sincerely hope Lo-Bak TRAX does for youwhat it has for me. This simple looking devicehas literally changed my life for the betterin regards to decreasing my back pain andincreasing my range of motion. Please take the time to read this, INSTRUCTIONMANUAL completely. Like Lo-Bak TRAX, Idesigned this manual to be simple and easyto use!2

GENERAL WARNINGS ANDCONTRAINDICATIONS FOR USEBEFORE USE WARNING: Before starting this,or any form of spinal traction treatments, youshould first consult with your primary carephysician to make sure your spine is healthyenough to do so.CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR USE Pregnancy Ligamentous instability Inflammatory conditions of the spine Primary or metastatic tumor(s) Spinal cord tumor(s) Unhealed spinal fracture Recent spinal surgery Spinal fusion Bowel or bladder difficulties Weakness or loss of strength in the armsor legs Severe pain with coughing or sneezing Osteoporosis Aortic aneurysm Respiratory condition that results in difficulty breathing with physical exertion or whilelying fully flat on your back Any upper extremity (shoulder, wrist, elbow) pathology which may preventpushing force Any condition where resistance exercise iscontraindicatedAFTER USE WARNING: Discontinue use of thedevice and return to your primary care physician if your pain gets worse, you develop anyabnormal sensations or weakness in your legs,or you begin to experience any bowel or bladder problems.4

CAUTIONS: Consult your primary care physician prior to using the device if you have: Poorly controlled hypertension A condition that may result in bruising fromthe pressure of the thigh padsMuch like any exercise program or gym workout, if you “over-do-it” especially in the firstthree weeks of use, you may experienceincreased back soreness and/or spasms in theareas you are most trying to stretch.Initially, you may not feel a stretch in the lowback region of your spine. This is becausesome chronic low back pain sufferers are sotight, they may have to first stretch the midback area and then movement or stretchingwill occur lower down. Do not become frustrated if you are one of these people and arenot feeling a quality stretch in the beginning. It will get better with more frequent use andmore consistent use.PURPOSE FOR LO-BAK TRAXDevice DescriptionLo-Bak TRAX is a portable spinal tractiondevice, designed to perform spinal tractionin a comfortable, effective and safe manner. Its method of doing this is first done by usinga different lying posture than other spinaltraction devices. This lying posture flattensout the lumbar lordosis or curve in the lowback and straightens the spine. This makesthe spine a lot easier to traction or stretch. This lying posture allows the spinal vertebraeto separate with much less force requiredthan with a lying posture where the legs arestraight or the lumbar curve maintained. Thisposture also targets the low back withoutstressing other joints.5

Secondly, you the user are in total control ofthe traction force. It is supplied by the userpushing Lo-Bak TRAX against their thighswith their arms. This is a nice feature, becauseanybody with back pain knows, some daysyou are more sensitive than others. Some days you can tolerate a lot of force, and some days only a little. Either way, withLo-Bak TRAX you control how much force youuse, how you direct that force and exactlyhow long you hold the force.Indications For Use Low back pain Degenerative disc disease Discogenic pain Spinal degenerative joint disease Spinal stenosis Herniated disc Spinal curvature due to tight muscles Sciatica Muscle spasmLo-Bak TRAX is intended for single person useby adults to provide portable, non-poweredtraction to the low back while simultaneouslystretching the muscles and soft tissues of thelow back.6

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSBefore you start You should wear comfortable fitting, nonslip pants or shorts. Choose a surface that is firm, but comfortable. A bed will work, but not as effectiveas a firm surface. You should have enough space to lie downand get up easily. A carpeted floor or a wooden floor with ayoga mat is best.FLATCENTERPOINTFLAT/LEVELWRIST WITH GRIPSTAINLESS STEELBOTTOM HALFTUBE ENDPLUGPICTURE 3Lo-Bak TRAX Posture Lie flat on the floor or bed face up. DO NOT use any pillows or neck supports! You need your spine as straight as possible. Next bend your hips and knees so that theheels of your feet are as close to your buttocks as comfortable. You are now in the proper posture. Please take 1-2 minutes to just relax andslow breathe. The more relaxed you are, theeasier your spine will stretch.8

Lo-Bak TRAX TRACTION Position the center point between yourthighs while grasping the handle grips. The stainless steel half of the thigh contactsshould be positioned down or closest toyour groin/trunk area. The thigh contacts are designed to fit in thecrease formed at the connection of yourthigh to your groin/trunk areas. Keep your wrists flat and in-line with thehand grips. It may help to elevate yourelbows to keep the forearms and wrists flat. Slowly push the hand grips towards yourfeet. Hold for 20-30 seconds and slowly release. Rest for 1-2 minutes and then repeat theselast 2 steps 4-6 times. ALWAYS REMEMBER to breathe normallyduring use of this device.PLEASE USE Lo-Bak TRAX DAILY FOR 3 WEEKSFOR BEST RESULTS!SOME LIKE MORNINGS, SOME LIKE NIGHTS,TRY THEM BOTH AND THEN DECIDE WHAT’SBEST FOR YOU!REMINDERSLo-Bak TRAX stretches the sensitive, soft tissues surrounding and supporting your spine. These soft tissues are not used to beingstretched like this. Do not be surprised if youare sore after using Lo-Bak TRAX, especially inthe first 3 weeks of use.If you try and push too hard or hold thestretch too long, you will be sore. Just like anynew work out program, it is best to start slowand easy.9

Do not be surprised if you feel a stretch/traction in your mid-back area and not in yourlow back area in the beginning. With consistent use the soft tissues will stretchand relax and the traction will become moreeffective.Always breathe normally during use.Do not get up immediately when done.Let your body rest for 1-2 minutes beforegetting up, to avoid spasm.TROUBLESHOOTINGPROBLEM: I’m feeling the traction/stretch inmy mid back, not my low back area!SOLUTION: This may occur in some peoplewho have chronic low back pain. Their lowback is so over-tight that the middle back isthe first area to start to move or stretch. Withconsistent use, the low back area will startto stretch and the traction force will be feltmore in the low back after 3 weeks.Another problem could be that the user hasthe thigh contact located too high up on thethigh while applying the force. Make sure thethigh contact is as close to the groin/trunkarea as possible. The final problem could be the user has theirwrists positioned higher than the hand grip. This will cause more force to the top of thethigh contact and cause a stretch higher up inthe spine.10

PROBLEM: The hand-grips seem to be rotating or slipping!SOLUTION: The hand-grips were designedto be free. We do not glue them still for tworeasons.1) If stationary or still, they would deformquickly from the repetitive force applied.Rotating them allows the user to change thearea pressed upon.2) This allows the user to customize theirhand grip location. The user can slide thegrips towards the middle or edge dependingon their preference. If you have your wristsflat with the grip as instructed, there shouldbe no movement of the grips.PROBLEM: The center point is pointing eitherup or down and is not flat!SOLUTION: This is a clear indicator your wristposition is wrong. Your wrists should be flator straight in-line with the handle grip. If yourwrists are BELOW the handle grip, the centerpoint will tilt up. If your wrists are ABOVE thehandle grip, the center point will tip down.Either way, you will not get a good stretchunless your wrists are flat and in line with thehandle grips, and the point is flat, especiallywhen you first start using Lo-Bak TRAX.Once comfortable using Lo-Bak TRAX, you canmove your wrists above or below the handlegrip during use to change the spinal level youare targeting at that time. PLEASE NOTE:This is an advanced move, done when usingLo-Bak TRAX to change the levels in yourspine you are trying to target. This can bedone without moving the device and whileholding the traction force. This should onlybe done when you are comfortable usingLo-Bak TRAX.11

PROBLEM: I’m just not feeling a good tractionforce where I want or need it!SOLUTION: Lo-Bak TRAX’s traction forceshould be able to be targeted to the areain your lower back which you would like.HOWEVER, being able to target the force istougher than it looks and takes some practiceto find your “sweet spot”. The area of yourback where you feel the traction force mostdepends on: WRIST POSITION, FEET POSITION,or THIGH CONTACT POSITION.GENERALLY SPEAKING If your wrists are higher than the handgrips, the center point will tip down andyou will feel the force more in the upperback area. If your wrists are lower than the hand grips, the center point will tip up and you will feelthe force more in the lower back area. If your feet are closer to your buttocks, youwill feel the force more in your lower backarea. If your feet are further away from your buttocks, you will feel the force more in yourmid back area. If the thigh contact is located closer to thegroin/trunk area, you will feel the forcemore in the lower back area. If the thigh contact is located higher up onthe thigh, you will feel the force more inthe upper back area.YOU NEED TO PRACTICE USING Lo-Bak TRAX,AND TRYING DIFFERENT POSTURES CONSISTENTLY TO CUSTOMIZE EXACTLY WHATWORKS BEST FOR YOU!12

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONSLo-Bak TRAX is powder coated with a durablefinish that can easily be cleaned with warmsoapy water and a sponge.Remember to always dry thoroughly with aclean, dry towel before use.You can also use household surface wipesavailable in most retail stores that sell cleaning supplies.13
