Next door, hisfriend’s little sister, Tina, was practicing riding herbicycle. She had only learned how a week before.Suddenly Juan heard a crash. He turned around andsaw that Tina had hit her mailbox and fallen off herbike. He immediately ran over to help her up. In afew minutes she was back on her bike. Theemergency was over.Here’s a story about a more serious emergency,and someone who helped. This is how it may havehappened. (Read Acts 20:1-12.)Ta little bit on the windowsill. He may havearrived late. Since the room was so crowded,it had seemed like a good seat. And perhaps itwould be a little cooler. He yawned again.Suddenly a friend who was sitting close toEutychus gasped. “Eutychus!” he yelled. “Oh,no! Eutychus fell out of the window!”The man sprang through the doorway leadingto the stairs, and raced down to the street. Paulfollowed close behind him. Everyone else inthe room was shocked into action.Many people ran down to see if therewas anything they could do. They rushed tohe third-floor meeting room wascrowded. It seemed as if everyone inTroas had come to saygoodbye to Paul. Tonightwas his last night withthem. But no one wantedhim to leave! Aftereating together, theyhad asked Paul topreach one moretime.“Be strong in Jesus!”Paul encouraged.The time passedquickly as Paul spoke, andbefore long it was midnight.Sitting on the ledge of anopen window, Eutychus(yoo -tee-khos) beganto yawn. The MessageI serve God by helping peoplein urgent situations.Eutychus, but he was so still. There was nodoubt that he was dead. The people werestunned; they didn’t know what to say.Bending down, Paul lifted Eutychus andheld him in his arms. Quietly he prayed. FinallyPaul looked up at his friends. “Don’t worry,” hesaid. “Eutychus is alive!”Eutychus opened his eyes and lookedaround. He saw the tears on the faces of hisfriends. “What happened?” he asked. “Why areyou crying?”The night wasn’t quiet anymore! Everyonewas suddenly wide awake and full of joy.“Eutychus! Eutychus, you’re alive! Oh, thankYou, God!” they cried.Back up the stairs they went, into thewarm room. No one was sleepynow! Paul continued to preach toa wide-awake crowd. He spokewith his friends until early in themorning.Even though Paul wastalking to his friends aboutJesus, he stopped right awayto help Eutychus. That is whatGod wants us to do. AskJesus right now to helpyou help others at anytime.
