If an extreme unforeseen circumstance (e.g., family member passed away, caraccident) prevents you from taking a test and you request a make-up opportunity, you will beasked to provide documentation (no exceptions) for the exam absence. If a situation arises, please email me as soon possible. If you are approved to take a make-up exam, you must takethe make-up exam (which will be in short-answer and essay format) during the PsychologyDepartment make-up exam period at the end of the semester. The final exam date is Wednesday,May 16, 2018 from 10:30-12:30. UNH policy ring-2018-final-exams.pdf) states that you can NOT make-up the final exam;please plan your schedule accordingly. In the rare instance that 2 or more additional final examtimes overlap with the final exam time for this class, please come speak with me early in thesemester.LAUNCHPAD HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS (15%): Each book chapter will correspondto a LaunchPad homework assignment. To do well on the homework assignments, you mustcarefully read the assigned book chapter. Please note that these assignments are open book andopen note. You will be given 2 attempts to complete each assignment and the highest score willbe entered into the gradebook. Technological difficulties do happen, so I suggest that you do notwait until the last minute to complete these assignments.ATTENDANCE/IN-CLASS QUIZZES (15%): Attendance will be taken every class throughin-class activities or quizzes. For in-class activities, students will either receive a 100 (youattended class/completed the assignment) or 0 (you did not attend class/did not complete theassignment). In-class quizzes will be graded based on the percent correct. Students who score an80 or higher on quizzes will receive a grade of 100. While attendance cannot be made-up,students may miss 2 classes without penalty. If you attend every class, I will drop your lowest 2quiz grades.RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (10%): All students in PSYC 401 are required to participate in 4hours of research experience in the Psychology Department. You must sign-up and complete 4hours of laboratory experience to receive credit. You are only allowed to participate in 2 onlinestudies; the other 2 credits must come from in-person studies or 2-part studies. Researchparticipation should provide you with direct experience to begin to understand how psychologistsconduct research. Students must use UNH SONA systems (http://unh.sona-systems.com/) tosign-up for research studies. To receive full credit for your research experience, you mustcomplete all 4 hours of research experience, show up for/complete a laboratory experience thatyou have signed up for, and give 24-hour notice to the experimenter if you are unable to go to a

laboratory experience that you have signed up for. Be certain to assign your SONA credit to theappropriate course (Moschella, PSYC 401, section 03). If you assign your credits to the wrongcourse, you will not receive research participation credit at the end of the semester. Make sure tocheck your SONA account at the end of the semester to ensure that the credits you earned appearunder this course. Failure to apply credits to the course properly will result in a lower grade. If you wish not to participate in this research experience, it is also possible to sign up for analternate experience through SONA. Please come to speak with me as soon as possible if youhave questions.OPTIONAL ASSIGNMENTS: There will be 2 opportunities for you to earn extra pointstowards your grade by completing the following optional assignments:(1) The first assignment includes an extra LaunchPad homework for Chapter 6 (memory).Students will have unlimited attempts. Please note that in order to receive extra credit, you mustanswer all questions correctly. If students do not answer all questions correctly, no extra orpartial credit will be given. Students who complete this assignment in its entirety will have 5extra points added to their lowest exam score (of the highest 3 exams).(2) The second assignment includes two parts. Both parts must be completed in order toreceive extra credit for this assignment. On April 6, a video will be shown in class. You mustphysically attend class to watch the video. Watching the video from home on YouTube orNetflix will not allow you to earn extra credit. Following the video viewing, you will have 2weeks (until 4/20/2018) to write a 2- to 4-page double spaced paper. The paper must include (1)at least a ½ page summary of the video, (2) 1 page of reflection (i.e., your own interpretation andthoughts on the video), and (3) 1- to 2- pages of discussion of material covered in class that youfeel relate to the movie. The paper should be in 12-point font, Times New Roman font, anddouble spaced. You will have the opportunity to earn up to 3% points to your final grade.Your grade will depend on the quality and content of your paper. For the summary, describe the relevant parts of the movie. Please ensure to adequatelydescribe the plot (not from Wikipedia) so that even a reader that has not watched the moviecould understand what is going on. For your interpretation, here are some guiding questions: Didyou like the video? What did you think of the experiment? Did you think it was ethical? Whatwould you have done differently?
