For me, one of the crown jewels is his collaboration with James Lapine, INTOTHE WOODS. This PSOA production is my entrée into the world of Sondheim as a director. As I envisioned the telling of this story, theoretical knowledge was tested by whatappeared simple but is complex in this world of fractured fairy tales. I am so grateful forthe opportunity to explore this world where maxims are declared and tested bycharacters from our childhood. They journey through territory which appears familiar tothem and us but is forever changed by the outcome of their choices. This masterpiece of a musical debuted on Broadway in 1987 but INTO THE WOODS seemsto have been written for times such as we now live, where societal challenges and a desirefor hope coincide. My wish is that each of us learns to be careful enough and love oneanother enough to consider the consequences of what we say and do. Ah me, may thiswish come true!SPECIAL THANK YOUColeen Brooks, David Hoffman, Antonis Johnston, Tanya Kruse, Wendy Rowe, VanessaWeber, Simone Ferro, Lillian Hayward, Christine Westrich, Utah Shakespeare Festival,UW-Oshkosh Theatre Department, Marquette University Theatre Department, andCardinal Stritch University Theatre Department, PSOA Music Department, PSOA DanceDepartment, Kayla Premeau, Barb Garncarz, Robin Mello, Raeleen McMillionUWM resides on traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk and Menominee homelands alongthe southwest shores of Michigami, North America’s largest system of freshwaterlakes, where the Milwaukee, Menominee and Kinnickinnic rivers meet and the peopleof Wisconsin’s sovereign Anishinaabe, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Oneida and Mohicannations remain present.
