In this bookThe Mathseeds program teaches children the core math and problem solvingskills needed to be successful at school. Each online lesson begins by introducing and modeling a mathematical concept. The child then completes a wide range of activities to practice the new skill. These activities present the content in many different ways, so children learnto use and apply each new skill in a variety of situations. This book is designed to supplement the online program with more exercisesin the core mathematical concepts. Each unit focuses on a topic within themain learning strand, presenting a series of pen and paper activities, wordproblems, puzzles, and games to practice their skills and understanding. The topics in this book align with the following components of the StateStandards:3.NBT.A.3 Multiply one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10 in the range 10-90using strategies based on place value and properties of operations.3.OA.A.1 Interpret products of whole numbers.3.OA.A.2 Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers.3.OA.A.3 Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems insituations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities.3.OA.A.4 Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or divisionequation relating three whole numbers.3.OA.B.5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.3.OA.B.6 Understand division as an unknown-factor problem.3.OA.C.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as therelationship between multiplication and division or properties of operations.By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digitnumbers.3.OA.D.8 Solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Representthese problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknownquantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computationand estimation strategies including rounding.3.OA.D.9 Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition tableor multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations.Multiplication & Division Grade 3vi Blake eLearning

Multiplication gamesMultiplicationSKIP COUNT CIRCLEPlay as a class or in a group of 5 or more people.Use a spinner with numbers 1-10 (see page 56).1Sit in a circle. Pick a number to skip count using the spinner.2 The first person in the circle says the number. The next person in the circle mentally adds that same numberto the first and says the answer. The next person in the circle adds the number to that answer. And so on around the circle, skip counting by the number.3 Continue until someone makes a mistake. Then spin and go again.Variation: Keep track of the highest number you get to for eachskip counting digit and try to get a better score next time.ARRAY RACEPlay in pairs. You need a different colored pencil ormarker each, a sheet of grid paper (see page 57)and two 10-sided spinners. (see page 56).1Player A: spin both spinners. Use the two numbers tocolor in an array that size. For example you spin a 5and a 3 so you color an array of 5 rows of 3 squares.2 Player B: spins and colors an array.3 Keep taking turns until one player can’t fit their array in.The winner has colored in the most squares.Multiplication & Division Grade 3 Topic 110 Blake eLearning
