ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSThe Admissions Representative will interview all applicantsfor enrollment. The student will need to furnish a high schooltranscript or GED certificate/diploma and/or high school orGED transcript equivalent to a high school diploma showingcompletion, along with a driver’s license and/or birth certificate and a Social Security card at the time of enrollment. Official documentation is a statement of the student’s academicrecord received directly from the issuing institution or agencysuch as a transcript or score sheet. Paper transcripts printed onsecurity sensitive paper that contains the issuing institution’sseal or signature of an official from the institution is acceptable admission documentation. Electronic transcripts or scoressheets not printed on security sensitive paper must includeindicia that the transcript or score sheet was received directlyfrom the issuing institution or agency such as accompanyingemail correspondence or the envelope. This academy’s policies of admission on instruction and graduation practices donot discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, ethnic origin,religion or age. Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and BarberExaminer State Law requires an individual student to be 17years of age or older to enroll in a Cosmetology, Esthetics,Instructor, Barbering or Manicuring course. Gould’s Academydoes not recruit or encourage students already enrolled in asimilar course of study. Students who are re-entering after aperiod of withdrawal will re-enter in the same progress statusas when they left. This also includes students returning froma leave of absence. Tennessee Board of Massage Therapyrequires individual to be at least 18 years old at time of application and not convicted of prostitution or sexual misconduct.COSMETOLOGYTRANSFER HOURS POLICYIf a student is transferring from another school, he/she mayhave already accumulated hours toward his/her completionof the 1,500 hour Cosmetology program. Gould’s Academywill accept 350 transfer hours. All students applying for theentrance to Gould’s Academy are responsible for obtainingCertification of hours from prior school. Student transfers willbe allowed to change courses and retain 150 hours from theirprevious course according to State Board guidelines. In orderto be considered for transfer all previous financial obligationsmust be completed with a proof of receipt. Transfer hoursare counted as both attempted and completed hours for thepurpose of determining when the allowed maximum timeframe has been exhausted. SAP evaluation periods are basedon actual contracted hours at the institution.ESTHETICS TRANSFER HOURS POLICYGould’s Academy does not accept transfer hours for esthetics.Gould’s Academy student transfers will be allowed to changecourses and retain 150 hours from their previous course according to State Board guidelines. Any student interestedin transferring credit hours should check with the receiving institution directly to determine to what extent, if any, credithours can be transferred.We do not accept transfer hours for manicuring, esthetics, or massage therapy instructor courses.5

COURSEGould’s Academy offers the Sassoon Academy cutting curriculum, the CND Nail System and the Milady Standard Textbook of Cosmetology. A 20-hour business course, Nuts andBolts, further enhances the student’s education to make themsalon/spa ready or to become an owner upon graduation.The highly skilled and experienced professional educatorswill present the classes with the use of DVDs, lectures, PowerPoint, diagrams, demonstrations, platform artists and practical hands-on application. Incorporating all of the educationalmaterial creates motivation, inspiration, artistry and growth inbecoming a respected professional in the salon/spa industry.Students will receive educational material from the Revisionand Goldwell Color System, MUD Makeup, Sassoon AcademySchool Connection, CND Nail Technology, MUD Makeup,Milady Standard Textbook of Cosmetology, Nuts and Boltsand in compliance with Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology, the Tennessee State Board Booklet.A new cosmetology student will begin their education atLevel 1 in a supervised classroom. They will accumulate 360hours of theory and practicals. Upon reaching satisfactoryprogress in attendance, practicals & theory exams, thestudent will be promoted to level 2 Cosmetology program.The Level 2 classes will continue with supervised trainingfor the next 300 hours. Upon successfully completing 300hours, students demonstrating knowledge in practicals andtheory are considered to be making satisfactory progressand may be promoted to Level 3, the Student Salon (clinicfloor) upon test out.All phases of cosmetology are performed by students onclients/mannequins under the direct supervision of a licensed educator. Level 3 students must display knowledgein all areas of their cosmetology training. During Level 3students will continue to attend both a daily theory classand advanced technical classes through the remainder oftheir Cosmetology training. COURSEGould’s Academy offers the CND Nail System businesscourse of 20 hours and the Milady Nail TechnologyTextbook. The highly skilled and professional educatorsat the academy will use lectures, DVDs, PowerPoint presentations, charts, demonstrations, practical hands-onexperiences as well as guest artists. Incorporating all ofthe instructional materials creates motivation, a positiveattitude, effective communication and continued growthto become arespected professional in the nail industry.Students will receive educational material from theMilady Nail Technology Textbook, CND Nail Technology,and in compliance with Tennessee State Board ofCosmetology, the Tennessee State Law Booklet.A student beginning in the Manicuring course will begintheir education at Level 1 in a supervised classroom.They will accumulate 300 hours of theory and practicals.A test-out procedure will be used to determine satisfactoryprogress in theory and practicals. Students demonstratingsuch knowledge will progress to Level 2 Student Salon (clinicfloor).All phases of manicuring are performed under the directsupervision of a licensed educator. Level 2 students mustdisplay knowledge in all areas of their Manicure training.During this training Level 2 students will continue to attendboth a daily theory class and advanced technical classesthrough the remainder of their Manicure program.To prepare students for the Tennessee State Board LicensingExamination, Gould’s Academy requires all studentscompleting 400 hours of training to attend a TennesseeState Board Preparatory Class twice a month untilcompletion of 600 hours. Thehighly skilled and experienced professional educatorswill present the classes with the use of DVDs, lectures,PowerPoint, diagrams, demonstrations, platform artistsand practical hands-on application. Incorporating all ofthe educational material creates motivation, inspiration,artistry and growth in becoming a respected professionalin the salon/spa industry.Students will receive educational material from Murad,Milady Standard Esthetics Fundamentals, Pin Up EyelashExtensions and in compliance with Tennessee State Board ofCosmetology, the Tennessee State Board Booklet.A new esthetics student will begin their education at Level1 in a supervised classroom. They will accumulate 300 hoursof theory and practicals. Incorporating all of the educational material creates motivation,inspiration, artistry and growth in becoming a respectedprofessional instructor in the school industry.Students will receive educational material from Milady’sMastery Educator Program, Business course of Nutsand Bolts in compliance with Tennessee State Board ofCosmetology, the Tennessee State Board Booklet and PSIBooklet.
