From the desk of Father JamesPraised be Jesus Christ! This weekend we have two great events taking place in our parish and school communities. First, on Saturdayafternoon we had our 1st Communion Mass. Students have been preparing since last fall for this day. They began by preparing to receive our loving Lord’s mercy and forgiveness in their First Reconciliation back at the endof January. Today they complete this journey by receiving our Lord’s Body and Blood for the first time. Thishowever is really just the beginning. This supernatural nourishment that they now will receive each week willhelp them continue to grow in their faith.Secondly, at our 5:00 pm Sunday Mass we are honored to have with us Archbishop Alexander Sample who willbe administering the Sacrament of Confirmation to our high school teens. Also, joining us is a small class ofConfirmation students from St. Cyril’s in Wilsonville with their pastor Fr. Brian Allbright. This sacrament sealsthem with the Holy Spirit and prepares them to carry out the task of proclaiming Christ and His love to the wholeworld. We know that in our world we face many obstacles and much darkness, but it is through the light of Christ thatwe are able to follow the path that leads us into a deeper relationship with God and His saints. May these sacraments fill our young people with the grace they will need to be strong and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Mayour witness of these sacraments renew in us as well that desire to be disciples of Christ and to proclaim His goodnews in the world!Speaking of good news, I have one other item to share. As you know Mrs. Kimberly Fadden announced that shewill not be returning next fall to be the principal of St. Francis School. I have been working with a team of parents, school teachers and parish members to select a new principal. This past week, I was able to offer this position to one of the candidates and he accepted.Mr. William Summer, who this past year has been the principal at St. Joseph’s School in Salem, Oregon will becoming this summer to begin leading our parish school. Please keep an eye out in the bulletin for more information about Mr. Summer and his family. He will be more formally introduced at the weekend Masses in thenear future.I want to thank Mrs. Fadden for her hard work and dedication these past years that she has served as our schoolprincipal. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with and get to know Mrs. Fadden. Thank you! Iam also excited to get to know and work with Mr. Summer. Let us keep both Mrs. Fadden and Mr. Summer inour prayers as we finish up the present school year and prepare for the next school year. Let us also keep ourteachers and students in prayer during this transition period. In the Spirit of St. Francis To Suzanne Moore for laundering the altar linens for the month of April. To Steve and Yvonne Holthouse, Gregg andLiz Harris and Ed and Rosary Contreras forthe vibrant carnations that were passed out lastweekend to all our mothers. To Sal and Jackie Fuoti , Mike Rossetti, Timberly Marek, Caleb and Judah Kester, Rosary Contreras and Jennifer Mirek for volunteering at Faith in Action's Neighbor 2 NeighborDay last Saturday. To Yvonne Nimeh and Jane Michaud for thebeautiful flowers for the church. To Royal Exteriors for donating and installingthe new windows for the chapel. To Sue Pelletier who created and payed for thelovely Marian-themed banner in the inner narthex for Mother's Day weekend. Decline leadsus away. We want true progress. True progress unites, eventually. Sowing the seeds of division is Satan’s occupation, which may seem to be a fast-growing industry. But Christians remain hopeful. We achieve unity whenwe seek the common good, “the general welfare of theentire human family." It’s not just about “me” but about“us.”Division is the outcome when the philosophy is “mefirst, and others like me.” Jesus’ commandment to “loveyour neighbor” did not conclude with “but me first.”Care MinistryProvidence Community Connection/ Strong forLife 2.0:Strong for Life exercise class meets Monday, Wednesdayand Friday at 10:00 AM in the South Classroom. Theclass is free and open to anyone 60 years and older. Wefocus on strength, flexibility, balance and cardio. Theexercises are designed to help older adults stay active intheir homes and communities by exercising in a safe andsupportive environment. Please feel free to check it out during any of these timesor call Jennifer Mirek in the parish office was more information.God is light. Satan is darkness. True progress is whateverleads us to the light. Decline moves us away from thelight and towards the darkness. The Holy Spirit gentlytakes our hand and guides us to the light. First, we mustlisten to the Holy Spirit, discern the Holy Spirit’s message (if the message is to avoid the good and seek theevil, it’s not the Holy Spirit), trust in the Holy Spirit, andchoose the light. Keeping Jesus’s commandments is thelight: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you anotherAdvocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth.”True progress is the path we take as we keep Jesus’scommandments to love God and neighbor. It is a journeywe take with good cheer and abundance of hope, withkindness of heart and gentleness of tongue, with ourcompanion the Holy Spirit.Courtesy of the Office of Life, Justice, and Peace5

Our God-given worth and dignitycan't be diminished by illness, dependence on others, orany other circumstance. Every person's life is worth living. In the Netherlands, requests for "hastened death"were withdrawn by 85% of patients when their symptoms were better controlled.
