A Guide to Inner HealingDEDICATIONI dedicate this book to my Heavenly Father, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to the Holy Spirit and to all those who are longing to grow and experiencehealing through prayer, especially spiritual leaders.3

A Guide to Inner HealingACKNOWLEDGMENTSI am grateful for many people who worked hard and took the time to readand edit this story at different stages of my life. This book is the result of manyamazing Christian friends who helped me write and edit: Mike Goins, Toni Gray,Lynette McClain, Carol Emery, Young Ja Chang, Hrdlicka Courtney, and LauraNokes Lang. I also thank Rev. Jeong Woon Yong who made a graphic of “A Roomof Torment.” God bless you all!I pray that the Lord will use this book according to His will. I give glory toJesus. Without him, this book couldn’t have been written.4

A Guide to Inner HealingINTRODUCTIONHow Did This Book Come About?I have been working as a Chaplain at Adam’s County Detention Facility(ACDF) since 2003. This is one of the books that I wouldn’t have written if theLord hadn’t asked me to. On March 16, 2018, I had a dream. In that dream, I sawtwo young women who were just hired on as prison chaplains. Somehow, Irecognized one of them. She turned to me and asked, “Do you have a book onhow to be a prison chaplain?” They were inexperienced, and had no idea how tohelp prisoners, and were looking for a resource book.My answer was “no.” It seemed it would be good if I wrote a book to helpnew chaplains. I occasionally have a nightmare about needing to do something andnot being able to do it. I had many distractions in my dream so I wasn’t able to dowhat I was supposed to do. This dream was like that: two young women alreadyhired as chaplains, and me with no resource books to help them be moreeffective at what they do.After I awoke from the dream, I asked the Lord why I had it. He replied,“My daughter, work on a book to help spiritual leaders. I have given you manyresources.” As I thought about it, the Lord was right: I had already developedmany resources, I just needed to gather the information and put it together. If Ihad not worked at a jail, I couldn’t and wouldn’t have developed resources tohelp hurting people. The Lord blessed me with ministries and many resources forHis work in healing inmates. The Holy Spirit’s presence in our facility brought revival in many inmates’hearts. I also know that the Holy Spirit has used many resources I included in thisbook. Now, I am thankful that more people will benefit from these resourcesbecause of the Lord. Praise God!This is a guide book for any spiritual leader, or even those who want tohelp themselves experience inner healing. I am so thankful for the ministryopportunities the Lord has given me through worship services, prayer meetings, individual and group counseling, and critical counseling at ACDF. I give all glory toJesus. Without Him, this couldn’t have been written. I also thank the Holy Spiritfor guiding and leading the writing of this book.5

Non-Christians can be in this room oftorment, and Christians can be there, too.You might question, “When people have faith in Jesus Christ, why dothey suffer from spiritual attacks?” The reason for this is there are many wayswe can be pushed into this room without realizing it. But the Lord canprovide freedom from spiritual attacks and free people from spiritual pain.We need to process hurt and pain by doing what the Lord wants us to do.This healing and spiritual freedom comes from repenting of our sins, forgivingeveryone, including ourselves, and asking the Lord to close the door oftorment.9

A Guide to Inner HealingThere are three steps to experience spiritual freedom andhealing:1. Recognize why you are stuck in the Room of Torment2. Recognize that there are many doors inside the Torment Room andwhat they are.3. Repent, and ask the Lord to close the doors one by one. There are four things that cause us to enter this Room ofTorment:1. We fall into sin.2. Others who are close to us or with whom we have contact withcause us to fall into sin.3. We experience grief, loss, and trauma.4. Our environment pushes us into a torment room where there aredemonic attacks. There are many doors inside this Room of Torment:1. Physical attacks by demons – choking, poking, beating, pain2. Visions – unholy, scary, demonic visions3. Voices – evil, negative, hurtful, condemning voices4. Dreams – nightmares, demonic attacks5. Flashbacks – living with painful memories every day6. Grief and loss – loneliness, rejection, sadness, guilt, anger7. Addictions – alcohol, drugs, sex, immoral thoughts and behaviors8. Anger – unforgiving heart, blame, violence9. Confusion – fear, anxiety, pride, doubt10. Depression – hopelessness, suicidal thoughts, violent thoughts11. Incarceration – shame, helplessness, despair, guilt12. Idol worship – people, money, witchcraft, satanic cultRepent, and ask the Lord to close the doors one by one:1. Repenting of sins – Ask the Lord to forgive your sins one by one.Prayer: “Lord Jesus, forgive me for my sins. Holy Spirit, if there isany sin I haven’t repented, please help me to repent. Please forgiveme for my anger and unforgiving heart. Please take away my angerand fill my heart with your love and compassion and mercy.”10

A Guide to Inner Healing2. Repenting of other people’s sin – Ask the Lord to forgive others whosinned against you.Prayer: “Lord, please forgive all people who have sinned against me andagainst my family. Help them to repent of their sins.”3. Forgiveness – forgive everyone, including yourself.Prayer: “Lord, I forgive everyone and I forgive myself. Thank you fordying on the cross for my sins.”4. Ask the Lord to close the doors of torment that were opened.Prayer: “Lord Jesus, please help me close all the doors of torment andthe doors I can’t close, please help me to close. Help me to live a purelife that will please you and help me experience healing from all thehurts and pain. Help me to spread your love and the gospel message ofsalvation and peace to others.”If many doors are open, it takes a while to process all the pain and hurt, sokeep focusing on the Lord to help you close the doors that need to be closed. When all the doors are closed, you will find God’s peace and healing. In order to keep this peace continuously, you need to live a life that willplease God and avoid sin, so avoid people and environments that can put you inthe room of torment again. Share your testimony of healing so others who arepresently tormented can experience healing through God and be saved. Why do we need to repent?Repentance is related to the healing of our relationship with the Lord andto spiritual freedom from the devil’s attack. Without repentance, we can’t have aclose, loving relationship with God because living in sin makes Him grieve andupset.Having pain, torment, and spiritual attacks is a sign that we needrepentance; and when you feel like you are far away so you don’t feel thepresence of God, there is a chance that you need to repent. God may haveremoved His presence from you so that you can recognize that something ismissing in your life.Without repenting and making changes in our thoughts and lifestylesaccording to God’s holy word, we are continuously going farther away from Him.11

A Guide to Inner HealingWhen you have a big empty heart, confusion, and lack of direction in life, this maybe a sign that you need to turn to God’s guidance on which areas you are notliving in accordance with His will. Without leaving a sinful life, we can’t have peacein our mind, and we can’t create peace with people around us. The turmoil in ourhearts shows that there is something we need to take care of, by doing somethingthat the Lord wants us to do. We can sin by either commission or omission. If you feel you don’t know what to repent, ask the Holy Spirit to help yourepent. This will invite the Lord to start the purifying process, and the Holy Spiritcan help you.Why we don’t feel forgiven by God?Why don’t people feel forgiven after they have asked for forgiveness? Thereare two reasons for this: 1.When people ask for forgiveness but they do not trulywant to leave sin; deep in their hearts they know that they have not trulyrepented. 2. Even if we have truly repented and are not going to repeat the sin wecommitted, the devil is condemning us for our sin.We may not truly repent of our sins. When we truly repent, we recognize that we need to make changes. Ourthoughts, words, and actions will be transformed. If we are continuously sinningand living in sin, we know we are not truly repenting but constantly disobeyingGod. Therefore, we may be feeling guilty about our lack of sincerity. We knowthat this doesn’t please God. We need to examine ourselves to see whether wetruly intend to obey the word of God and change our sinful behavior.“They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity– for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. If they have escaped thecorruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and areagain entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they wereat the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the wayof righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on thesacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: ‘Adog returns to its vomit,’ and, ‘A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowingin the mud.’” (2 Peter 2:19-22)To those who are in Christ who believe that Jesus died for their sins andwhen they fall into sin and repent, the Lord forgives: Be aware that if youcontinuously fall into sin and think that all you have to do is ask for God’sforgiveness and have no intention of changing your lifestyle, you are opening thedoor to the devil’s attack.12

A Guide to Inner HealingWe need to leave sin and live a holy life to honor God and give Him glorywith our lives. That’s when we truly are free from the devil’s attack and can havepeace. We are in a spiritual warzone. Unless we are fully armored with the armorof God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and believe the word of God, we could open the doorto the devil again. When we truly repent in both heart and behavior, we areclosing the door of torment. You may be attacked by a condemning demon.God wants to save us, so He helps us to know what sin is so that we canrepent and make changes. However, the devil will try to make us feel bad aboutour past sin and try to condemn us, even though we are not repeating the samesin anymore. There is a difference between the Holy Spirit’s conviction of our sinsand the devil’s condemning voice. The Holy Spirit’s conviction of sins comes deepin our hearts, and we feel really bad about what we did. In this way, the Lordhelps us to understand that we did something wrong and need to make changes,so we don’t fall into the same sin again. The demonic condemning voice isdeceptive. It is not coming from deep in our hearts with regrets of falling into sin,but it’s a nagging voice behind us telling us how bad we are.The demonic voice will tell people that God can’t forgive them becausetheir sin is so big. But the Scripture tells us that God will forgive those whoconfess their sin. We need to fight the devil’s voice with the word of God.“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in ChristJesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free fromthe law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2)Many Christians suffer from this condemning voice of the devil. When thevoice troubles you after you repented for sins, you need to know that this voiceis not coming from the Lord. The devil knows your weaknesses and knows howto attack you. The devil tries to disturb your peace and make you doubt God’slove and forgiveness.God forgives us when we repent of our sins. He doesn’t even rememberour sins. The devil will try to attack us if there is anything that could put us intothe torment room. Recognizing the tactics of the devil and resisting them byhaving faith in God by resisting the devil in Jesus’ name, obeying the word of God,and repenting when we sin will help us win the battle. Jesus has the power to helpus and free us from spiritual oppression.“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preachgood news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisonersand recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the yearof the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)13

However, there are many, including those who profess to be thebelievers of Jesus, who don’t know how to find peace and healing throughGod.Why are many hurting and living an unfulfilled life? The reason for thatis many are living in a Room of Torment instead of living in a Room ofBlessing. When you are in a Room of Torment, there may be many tormentdoors are open to you. There are many reasons people are inside of aTorment Room. Our sin can push us into a Room of Torment, and there areareas that we have no control over such as other people’s sinful actions, losing a loved one, or an adverse environment we may live in full ofpersecution and natural disasters.16

A Guide to Inner HealingThere is no peace for those who are in the room of Torment. Somepeople feel trapped and don’t know how to get out of this room. There is noinstant fix, and it may be slow coming out of the Torment Room when thingsare not in our control. If you are hurting and don’t have peace, I encourage you to study “ATorment Room” first and learn how to close doors into that room throughprayer. The Lord provides many blessings in the midst of hurt and pain. Thereare things you can resolve and there are things you cannot resolve, but dowhatever you can to close the doors of torment and then focus on whicharea you need to work on to be in the Room of Blessings.A Room of BlessingThere are 12 torment doors which we need to close in the TormentRoom: in the Blessing Room, there are 12 doors that can be opened to youas well. In the Torment Room, you try to close the torment doors but in aBlessing Room, you are trying to open the doors which call for spiritualdiscipline. If many doors of blessing are open, you are on the road to having aclose, loving relationship with Jesus. If many of the blessing doors are closed, you need to work on spiritual disciplines and make changes in your life so youcan find peace and healing.First, recognize your own limitations:1. We are imperfect but God can help us to follow Jesus.Entering a room of blessing doesn’t mean that you are free fromtemptation and challenges. As long as we are in an earthly body, we are weakand our desires are not always in God’s desires. We tend to go against God’swill. That’s the sinful nature in us. We can recognize this tendency and we canchoose the path God wants us to follow. That is following Jesus and servinghim. We can learn to depend on Jesus to lead our lives. Then the Holy Spiritwill give us wisdom and courage to follow Jesus even through our difficult timesand hardships.17

A Guide to Inner Healing2. Life is not perfect but with God’s help we can handlehardships. We all experience pain, grief and loss, and struggle with sin. But we canstrive to work on living a pure life that will please God. This will enable us towalk the path of peace and healing.3. Some doors are open because of God’s grace. In the Blessing Room, we have limitations on which doors we can open. Some doors are only in God’s hands. Those doors include: spiritual visions, dreams, and healing the Holy Spirit provides. So, be patient and persistent inyour following the Lord. Don’t give up quickly. God is near you when you tryto follow Jesus. There are four things that help us to enter this Room of Blessings:1) Having faith in Jesus – To enter this room, you must believe andconfess that Jesus your Lord and Savior. Jesus died on the cross for oursins and is resurrected from the dead. He is alive and He is God. He isliving with those who truly believe in Jesus. Without Jesus, you can’tenter this room of blessings. Here is a prayer if you have not acceptedJesus as your personal Lord and Savior:Prayer: “Dear Jesus, I surrender my life and everything to you. I giveyou all my pain, fear, regret, resentment, anger, worry, and concernsthat overwhelm me. I am a sinner. I need your forgiveness. Please comeinto my heart and my life and forgive all my sins. I believe that you diedfor my sins and that you have plans for my life. Please heal my brokenheart and bless me with your peace and joy. Help me to cleanse my life,so I can live a godly life. Help me to understand your plans for my lifeand help me to obey you. Fill me with the Holy Spirit, and guide me so Ican follow your way. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”2) True Repentance – We may ask the Lord to forgive our sins but if wekeep living in the same sin, we have not truly repented. We need toavoid any kinds of sin that will make us fall away from God’s grace.Check and see if you are falling into any sin according to Scripture. Ifyou don’t work on purifying your heart and character, you will18

A Guide to Inner Healingcontinuously live in the Torment Room and won’t have peace buttorment and confusion.“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control,brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- having a form ofgodliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.”(2 Timothy 3:1-5)Prayer: “Holy Spirit, help me to see myself as you see me and help meto repent. Help me to truly make changes in my life so I can follow Jesusinstead of following my own sinful, selfish desires which make me fallaway from your grace and blessings. Help me to experience healing fromall anger, bitterness toward everyone. Fill my heart with love andforgiving heart. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”You must decide each moment to follow Christ instead of your ownselfish desires. As you practice following Jesus daily, it gets easier to letgo of your own sinful desires. If you are only asking the Lord forrepentance and do not change your behavior, you are not trulyrepenting your sins. Read Daniel 9:1-23 five times a day or at least oncea day for the next 30 days. As you read, repent your own sins.3) Leading of the Holy Spirit – If you accepted Jesus as your personalSavior and repented your sins, you have received the Holy Spirit. Startreading the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) to get to know Jesus. As you get to know Jesus through the word of God, the Holy Spirit willstart speaking to you about how you should live a life that will glorifyGod. By obeying the Holy Spirit, you will learn to listen and you willhave more knowledge of Jesus Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you toget to know Jesus and His heart so you can understand God’s heart andobey.Prayer: “Holy Spirit, help me to understand the Word of God so I canunderstand Jesus’ love and sacrifice for me more every day. Help me towalk with Jesus and listen to Him so I can understand my calling to serve19

A Guide to Inner HealingGod to the fullest. Help me to live a life that will honor and please God,Jesus and the Holy Spirit daily. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”4) Loving & Serving God – True repentance and transformation of theheart starts with trying to love God first and love our neighbors byserving the Lord. If you are living in sin, you can’t practice loving andserving God because the Lord hates sin. So, focus on learning how tolove God by reading the Bible daily, worshipping Jesus, obeying the HolySpirit, and sharing God’s love with others.Prayer: “Father God, I love you. Lord Jesus I love you. Holy Spirit Ilove you. I want to love you more and please you. Also, I want to lovemyself as you love me and love others. Please help me so I can be aperson that you want me to be. So, I can be fruitful for God’s kingdomand bring many people to Christ. I pray this in Jesus’ name.”20
