Clean up mold lines and ejector pin marks.For a hard plastic figure, scrape with a knife bladeor use a file. For a soft plastic figure use a sharpknife and cut off the seams.2. Tidy up the paint. Clean up the edges andfine-tune the existing paint.You can also changecolors to make the figure fit your scene better.Be sure to use acrylics for the base color toprevent solvent washes from lifting the color off.Life-Like Figure13. Apply a dark solvent oil wash. Mix a smallamount of artist’s oil color with turpentine tocreate your wash. Use a darker color similar to theone being covered or use raw umber over all.Burnt sienna wash was used over flesh with a rawumber wash around the eyes, nose and mouth onboth figures. We used Payne’s gray on the shirt ofthe Life-Like figure and black on the pants. Rawumber was used on the white t-shirt and pants onthe Preiser figure.2Once the wash is dry, use a clean dry brush(a stiff brush works best) to wipe the color off thehigh areas, leaving the recessed areas dark. Dablighter tones of oil colors on high areas and lightlyblend. We used Naples yellow to highlight theflesh.
