Oedipus King of ThebesWilling to marry his motherTraveling to Thebes, he found Laius, who provoked a fight inwhich Oedipus killed him. Oedipus found Thebes distressed bythe Sphinx. Oedipus solved the riddle given by Sphinx so shekilled herself. Then received the throne of Thebes. AntigoneAfter Oedipus’ death, Antigone’s 2 brothers, Polyneices and Eteocles, are waging warto decide the new ruler of Thebes. They both die and her other brother, Creon, isdecided to be the new ruler. Creon commands that Eteocles is to be buried andmourned in his honor, but that Polyneices shouldn’t be buried. Antigone was againstthis. She defied the law and buried her brother Polyneices. She was caught by Creonand was locked away in prison. She kills herself, but no one noticed. The blind prophet,Teiresias, and her Husband, Haemon, plead to release her. Creon eventually relentsand sees that she is dead. Haemon and Creon’s wife kill themselves in despair. The Trojan War A golden apple arrived at the Olympus where the gods andgoddesses lived. Paris chose Aphrodite. Basically, a gorgeousprincess in Greece called Helen fell in love with Paris but herhusband was super angry. They escaped to Troy, Menelausdeclared war on Troy. Greeks built a huge wooden horse onthe outside of the gates of the undefeated Troy. The Trojanstook the horse in and thinking they have won and have beenawarded. Agamemnon, Orestes, and Electra General-in-chief of the greeksAgamemnon went away his wife, Clytemnestra, was unfaithful to him with Aegisthus.Soon enough, Clytemnestra and her lover planned to murder Agamemnon and Orestes.Orestes was Agamemnon’s son and Electra was the sister of Orestes. When Electra,found out about them being unloyal. She sent Orestes to live with their uncle, Strophius.Orestes’ sister kept reminding him about the big lie, so eventually Orestes went to go seeClytemnestra. Orestes pretended to be a messenger for Strophius to announce Orestes’death to Clytemnestra. Orestes was doubting himself between avenging his father’s deathand saving his mother, considering it is a sin to kill one’s own mother. Orestes did end upkilling Clytemnestra and Aegisthus, and when he did this he was then followed byFuries, the goddesses of vengeance, forever. Orestes tried to fix everything by getting ridof the Furies and by going to Greece. HERACLESHeracles’ origin was through Zeus and Alcmene. Hera,Zeus’ actual wife, was mad and sent snakes to kill him.Heracles ironically killed them instead. MidasMidas was the king of Phrygia. He was living in luxury with hisbeloved daughter. Although he was rich, he thought the greatestobject in life was gold. Dionysus passed through his kingdomwith a satyr named Silenus. Silenus was left behind and gottired, so he took a nap in some rose gardens surrounding thepalace of Midas. Midas found him and recognized him instantlyand invited him to stay for a couple of days. After that he tookSilenus to Dionysus. Dionysus was pleased and offered a wishto Midas. He warned him about the wish for a golden touch, butMidas still went for it. The next day, Midas woke up and startedtouching everything from pure happiness. However, when hetried to eat an apple, it turned into gold. He has fear. Hisdaughter tried to hug him and turned her into gold. Midas was inabsolute regret and prayed to Dionysus to take the curse away.He did so, and Midas lived the rest of his life as a generous manthat shared his treasures and was loved by his people.
