ANNUALREPORT2017

Message from theBoard ChairLast year was one of transition and progress for the National Registry ofEMTs. As I transition to Past Chair, I can say that I am proud of ouraccomplishments – from the adoption of the National ContinuedCompetency Program (NCCP) by more than 20 states in 2016 to theimplementation of Recert 2.0 in 2017. The commitment to improving ourelectronic certification and recertification came with challenges, but wasefficiently and effectively handled by our staff, the board, and, of course, our stakeholders. We’ve continued to strengthen our staff and we have begun anationwide search for an outstanding new Executive Director. TheNational Registry’s National Certification and program activities willcontinue uninterrupted during that search with Drew Dawson joining ourteam as the Interim Executive Director. We are excited that Mr.Dawson, an accomplished and respected national EMS leader, will bejoining us and the Board of Directors is delighted to work with himagain. While I am proud of accomplishments, the focus is on the future. It is anexciting time to be in EMS and there are many changes andopportunities ahead. It is important the National Registry remains at theforefront of the industry and has a powerful voice in shaping the futureof the profession.Debra CasonFinally, I want to say that it has been a privilege and an honor to workwith such a talented staff, a distinguished Board of Directors and all ourdedicated stakeholders. Here’s to a great 2018!

Message from the InterimExecutive DirectorThis past year was one of innovation, transition and, for me, awarm “welcome back.” In September, I was proud to accept theposition of Interim Executive Director - a return to the NationalRegistry of Emergency Medical Technicians after serving asthe Chair of its Board of Directors.2017 was full of exciting successes including significantinternal changes that modernize and transform the NationalRegistry’s recertification systems and external changes thatmake it easier for licensed EMS providers to provide careacross state lines in certain situations. Both help to solidify thenational stature of the National Registry. In September, the National Registry launched Recert 2.0 - thelargest update ever to the National Registry’s recertificationsystem. Recert 2.0 provides many popular requested featuresand introduces the EMS Education Transcript, a powerful toolfor tracking, storing and managing continuing education.Externally, in May 2017, the Georgia Governor Nathan Dealsigned Senate Bill 109 – the first state to enact the EMS licensecompact (Recognition of Emergency Medical ServicesLicensure Interstate Compact, or REPLICA). Eleven otherstates adopted the legislation and the REPLICA Commissionmet for the first time in October 2017. REPLICA legislationrequires the state to use the National Registry examination forinitial licensure at the EMT and Paramedic levels. The NationalRegistry provides administrative support to the REPLICACommission. Our search has begun for a permanent Executive Director forthe National Registry. We are in an important transition periodfor the National Registry and for the Nation’s EMS system. TheBoard of Directors and I are committed to an aggressive nationwide search to find a visionary leader who can successfullynavigate the evolution of the Nation’s EMS certification agency.Drew Dawson
