REFLECTIONREFLEXIÓN“Call and response”: two words that summarize the substantial content of the readings of this Sunday. Jesus on his way to Jerusalem calls some to follow him and give him a radical response(Gospel). In this, Jesus overcomes the demands of the call and thefollowing in the Old Testament, particularly in the vocation of Elisha(first reading). The Galatians - and all Christians in general - havebeen called to the freedom of the Spirit, and therefore have to respond with their behavior to their new condition of free men, avoiding falling back into slavery (second reading).“Llamada y respuesta”: dos palabras que resumen el contenido sustancial de las lecturas del presente domingo. Jesús en su caminar hacia Jerusalén llama a algunos a seguirle y a darle una respuesta radical (Evangelio). En esto Jesús supera las exigencias delllamado y del seguimiento en el Antiguo Testamento, particularmente en la vocación de Eliseo (primera lectura). Los gálatas -y todos los cristianos en general- han sido llamados a la libertad del Espíritu, y por consiguiente tienen que responder con su comportamiento a su nueva condición de hombres libres, evitando caer otravez en la esclavitud (segunda lectura).Tres actitudes para seguir a Jesús. Podemos formularlas así:Entrega total, decisión absoluta, desprendimiento pleno. Hay queestar dispuesto a dejar el pasado, a no mirar hacia atrás, sino a tender los ojos hacia adelante, hacia la tierra que hay que labrar y queun día dará su fruto. En el seguimiento de Jesucristo no se admiten condiciones, si éstas implican subordinar el llamado al propio querer. Sepide radicalidad, porque el reino de Dios apremia y no puede esperar: Eliseo pudo poner condiciones a Elías (ir a despedirse de sus padres),pero el cristiano, si así lo requiere el Reino, hade librarse de esta preocupación por un bien urgente y superior. Finalmente, al discípulo Jesúspide el poner exclusivamente en él su seguridad,renunciando a todo tipo de seguridades materiales y humanas. Jesús no tiene nada, sólo a su Padre. El discípulohabrá de estar dispuesto a no tener nada, sólo un camino y un caminante que le va llevando hacia la cruz.Three attitudes to follow Jesus. We can formulate them likethis: Total delivery, absolute decision, full detachment. We must bewilling to leave the past, not to look back, but to look forward to theland that has to be worked and that one day will bear its fruit. Infollowing Jesus Christ, conditions are not admitted, if they imply subordinating the call to one'sown will. Radicality is called for, because thekingdom of God is urgent and can not wait: Elisha could put conditions to Elijah (go to saygoodbye to his parents), but the Christian, if theKingdom requires it, has to get rid of this concernfor a good urgent and superior. Finally, the disciple Jesus asks to place exclusively in him hissecurity, renouncing all kinds of material and human securities. Jesus has nothing, only his Father.
