K I NEMATIC POSTUR ECO NTROLKinematic Posture Control (KPC) is a technology unique to the MX-5that provides a more integrated and stable turning posture evenwhen cornering at high speed, while utilizing the MX-5’s suspensionstructure that works smoothly in everyday settings. The MX-5’s rearsuspension is designed to generate an “anti-lift” force that pulls thevehicle’s body down when the brakes are applied. KPC takes fulladvantage of the characteristics of this suspension and applies a slightbrake to the inner rear wheel when cornering under conditions withhigh G-force, thereby suppressing roll and pulling the vehicle down tostabilize posture. Moreover, KPC does not add even a single gram tothe weight of the vehicle.

The performance of KPC is particularly noticeable on tight cornersand rough road surfaces. Even in situations where the car body wouldtilt significantly in the past, KPC stabilizes the vehicle so that it gripsto the road surface. This gives a greater sense of connection to theground, and enables the driver to accelerate with greater confidence.Furthermore, as KPC prevents the body of the car from lifting whencornering at high-speed, it ensures a comfortable ride for the driverand passenger. KPC can determine the turning conditions in real timefrom the difference in speed between the left and right rear wheels,and increases its activity linearly in response to this to produce anappropriate posture stabilization effect. In other words, there isno change in terms of everyday driving situations, where the MX-5maintains the same relaxed and nimble behavior. The harder the drivebecomes, the more the MX-5 sharpens its tail-end senses and cleverlyadjusts its own turning posture. This enables a driving experiencethat maximizes the MX-5’s innate potential in a wider range of drivingscenarios than ever before.
