After conferring with theIyabito Chapter members to determine their needs,AVFCW purchased and delivered householdhandwashing stations to 40 Navajo families withinthis Chapter in New Mexico. Additionally, each ofthese families received a gallon of handwashingsoap to ensure that the sink was operational for alength of time. The base of the station holds fivegallons of clean water that, when used for washing,is discharged into the side grey water tank. The supportive partnershipwith many of themembers of Christ, OurLight! parish — andespecially having us as anoption for your LentenGiving — is so veryimportant to the missionand abilities of AVFCW.We are so grateful. For more informationvisit our website:avisionforcleanwater.org

Christ, Our Light!Page 4SPECIAL NEEDSALL BELONG FAITH ENRICHMENT CIRCLEDuring our Prayer Service on Saturday, intentions were focused on supporting one another and for asking Godto guide those who are ill or who have lost loved ones. We then exercised and flexed our muscles, guided by ourleader Amy, a Physical Therapist and our Coach. Everyone felt “stretched out” and motivated to practice athome too.Our class is “all in” on health, nutrition and hydration. We want to be healthy so we can be active and involvedin all aspects of our lives and in our church. We also want to be Role Models. Our class survey turned up strawberries as the favorite fruit and carrots as the favorite vegetable. No surprisesthere. What are your favorites? The students said that they are focused on keeping hydrated and sipping waterthroughout the day. That is a goal that all can pursue. How are you doing in that regard?Exercise is easy for our group. Many members are involved in the Olympics — from ice skating, to golf, tobowling, and various other sports. Several also walk their dogs, shovel the snow and do chores, all of whichcount as exercise. Before Covid and, to a certain extent now, some students enjoy walking, swimming, horseback riding and bicycling, as well as attending an exercise program. Our lesson involved being a follower of Jesus and being strong and loving. In that regard, we would like tomake Blessing Bags in a few weeks and are in need of small tubes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, body soap, shampoo, Chapstick and small combs. If any of you would like to help us out, you can bring the items to myoffice. The Youth Group does this, too, and we all share. Our parish is a community, and it is a joy to work onministries together.I want to encourage members of our class to participate in the Mass. Ask the ushers if you can bring up theGifts. It’s an important way to participate. One of the pictures is of three of our members, pre Covid, putting healthy snacks together. That is our goal forthe future, so if you have any recipes that you would like to share, please do!The other pictures are of Kit showing us how to meditate during Andrea Bocelli’s “Our Father” and alsoshowing us how to do the motions to “I Have a Dream.” Our goal is to have it ready to present at our FamilyDay Celebration on March 5th.May your day be filled with prayer, hydration, exercise and nourishing food. The soul and the body need both.PamPam La Grassa, Director,Special Needs Program248.649.5510, ext. 113

Christ, Our Light!Page 5RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWSIt’s rare that our Monday Night Formation falls on Valentine’s Day, but this year our class falls on February 14. Iknow that Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday and has its secular and romantic ties, but Scripture is abundant inits references to “love.” When speaking of virtues, our theological virtues are faith, hope, and love. The greatest ofthese is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). The love of God or God’s love is mentioned throughout the Bible.A most popular Scripture passage, heard at many weddings, states:Love is patient, love is kind.It does not envy, it does notboast,it is not proud. It does not dishonor others,It is not self-seeking,It is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, alwaysperseveres.Love never fails.(1 Corinthians 13:4-8)And the most famous Scripture passage of all – John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.Saint Valentine lived during the third century. He was a doctor before becoming a priest and served in Rome.Valentine was known for marrying couples who couldn’t legally be married in Rome by order of Emperor ClaudiusII. The emperor thought that marriage would keep men from serving as soldiers and if married, it would distractthem. Valentine was sent to jail for performing these marriages. While in jail, Valentine befriended his jailer,Asterious, whose daughter, Julia, was blind. Julia visited Valentine in jail and he helped her with her lessons.Valentine restored Julia’s sight through God’s miraculous healing. Emperor Claudius came to like Valentine, andoffered to pardon him if he renounced his Christian faith and worshipped the Roman Gods. Valentine refused andencouraged Claudius to follow Jesus. Claudius was so enraged over this that he sentenced Valentine to die. He wasexecuted on February 14, 270 AD. Before he died, he wrote a letter of encouragement to Julia, which he closed with“From your Valentine.” Valentine is the patron saint of love, marriage, young people, and greetings.THERE ARE NO RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21, INOBSERVANCE OF THE SCHOOLS’ MIDWINTER BREAK.JoAnn BonahoomDirector of Religious EducationMEN’S FELLOWSHIP AT CHRIST, OUR LIGHT!Here is a thought starter from this Sunday’s Readings (2/13/22). The Gospel (Lk 6: 17, 20-26) contains what we call“The Beatitudes.” It’s usually easier to look at others, but in what ways might you see yourself as “poor” (meansmore than just financially)? “Hungry” (what in your life might you be hungry for)? “Weeping” (can mean more thanjust sorrow – what might you be pounding the kitchen table in frustration about)? Or “persecuted” (are you criticizedfor being a Catholic, going to Church on Sunday)? Here is a thought starter using next week’s Readings (2/20/22). The Responsorial Psalm (Ps103: 1-13) says, “Notaccording to our sins does he deal with us, nor does he requite us according to our crimes. As far as the east is fromthe west, so far has he put our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD hascompassion on those who fear him (hold Him in awe).” How can this Truth about God’s love affect any self-guiltfeelings you may have?As always, you are invited to come and share in the discussion at our meeting (conference call only/no in-personthrough February) on Saturday mornings from 7:45 – 9:00. Please contact the parish office to get information on theMen’s Fellowship.
