2013 SeasonHusky Lax Player HandbookThe 3 Rules of Husky Lacrosse Don’t WhineDon’t ComplainDon’t Make ExcusesEquipment:All players will be fully equipped at all games and practices by league rule: Mouth guard Helmet Stick Gloves Shoulder pads and elbow pads Cup Cleats or approved shoes Athletic apparel (no jeans, no denim shorts, no pants except workout pants.) Mouth guards will be worn during all contact drills. All players should have 2 sticks ready to go Players should not expect coaches to provide tape, mouth guards, or screwdrivers.Tardiness:Players must be FULLY dressed and ready to play at the scheduled practice time. If a player knows that he willnot be able to be dressed and ready to play at the predesignated time, he must notify a coach ahead of time.Late players will receive additional conditioning upon arrival.Being late is one thing, being lazy is another.Cancellations:Practice is never cancelled unless one of the coaches makes a formal announcement. Never listen to otherplayers regarding this issue. If bad weather is present, players should still show up at the fields unless toldotherwise. Something will still probably happen that day.Absences: Players are expected to be at every practice, meeting and team function. If a player is going to miss practice, the coaches need to be notified 24 hours in advance. If a player is going to miss a game, the coaches need to be notified ASAP. Missing a practice without notification results in a loss of playing time, as determined by the coaches.

2013 Season Missed practice for any reason is still harmful to the team as you miss key concepts from that day.Players must get back up to speed by talking with a coach ASAP.Extra-Curricular WorkoutsIntense workouts outside of lacrosse are not recommended. It is detrimental to the team and to your healthto be burned out physically. It causes a lack of focus and ability to play your best game. We will do PLENTY ofrunning, conditioning, etc during the season, so please do not put yourself in this position.Injured players:(Depending on the severity of the injury) Injured players should still show up to practice ready to learn. They must be on time and are expected to stay the entire time. Pay attention at all times and look for ways to contribute to the practice, shagging balls, fixing sticks, setting up cones, goals, etc.Unity and Conduct: No derogatory actions towards teammates, coaches, spectators, officials or opponents shall betolerated at any time. No swearing at any time by any players. Offenders will be punished accordingly with conditioning and a loss of play time. Players will be removed from game play after first unsportsmanlike conduct foul. They will not returnuntil the next game.Email:Every player is expected to read his email once a day. If the computer is down at home, email can be checkedat school or a library. If you cannot find a computer, call a teammate before practice.Visitors:Once practice begins, players are not allowed to talk to non-members of the team who might be near thefields. Practice is not social hour. Treat it like it’s your job and you’re at work.Work:Attending a job is never a satisfactory excuse for missing any team function. The team practice schedule willalways be available well in advance. Players need to adjust their work schedule to the team’s schedule.Players should be clear to their employer what their commitment to the team is. Again, missed practicesresult in a loss of play time.Play Time:Being a member of a lacrosse team is a special privilege. Play time is a privilege that is earned. It is not aninherent right. It is never guaranteed. The players who have exhibited the right attitude and worked hardenough to be at the top of the coach’s depth charts will get play time. With that said, every player should

2013 Seasonwork hard in practice to improve and move up. At some point, every player will get their number called andthey are expected to be ready when that happens.Fighting:Fighting will not be tolerated at practice, in games or at school. If fighting occurs during a game the league willhand down disciplinary action, which usually consists of ejection and 3 game suspension, or seasonsuspension. Fighting between players at practice will be dealt with by the coaches and will result inpunishment determined by the coaches in addition to league sanctions.Equipment and Uniforms: Forgetting equipment is not an excuse. Players will not be permitted to participate if they are notproperly equipped. If a player has a problem with their pocket, they may bring it to a coach’s attention for repair if theyare unable to perform the repair themselves. If a player forgets their team issued practice pinnie, they will need to retrieve it before they canpractice. Players are required to wear team issues warm-up shirts and jerseys to every game. They will not beallowed to play until they have them at the field.Conduct During Practice: Lacrosse is a fun sport, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t work our hardest during the season to becompetitive. Players are expected to run and hustle through every drill and activity during practice. Lack of hustlewill result in additional conditioning. Players are expected to listen and pay attention to the coaches at all times during practice, regardlessof being in the drill at the time. No derogatory remarks or actions will be tolerated. (See players policy above) This includes swearing and foul language. You can’t do it in the games, so you can’t do it at practice. Every moment of practice should be used to improve your skills and become a better lacrosse player.Water Breaks: There will be frequent water breaks, especially during hotter months, to allow players brief rest andtime to re-hydrate. Players must bring their own source of water for practice. Taking time to run to the school or fieldhouse for water is not acceptable. This is not a time to socialize, sit down, and remove equipment. Each player is expected to take time toget water and come back on the field to a coach, ready for the next activity.

2013 SeasonHusky Lacrosse Player - Code of Conduct All players will conduct themselves in a manner that positively represents the Husky lacrosseorganization at all times - on and off of the field. Players will show the utmost respect to their coaches, their teammates, officials, parents, opposingteams and all other individuals at games and practices. Confirmation orsuspicion of impairment will be met with disciplinary action.Any player who violates this policy will be subject to disciplinary actions including removal and suspension frompractices, removal and suspension from games, or dismissal from the team. All disciplinary decisions will behandled on a case-by-case basis by the coaching staff and handed down by the head coach of the team.“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character iswhat you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”- John Wooden

2013 SeasonHusky Lacrosse - Parent ResponsibilitiesParent Support Lacrosse is a club sport - the support provided by families of the players is huge. There are numerous moving partsto a lacrosse game that require additional help. We ask that every parent gets involved in some aspect of the season. This includes things like bringing game water, ice, helping fill water bottles, field and box setup for home games, fieldand box tear-down for home games, spotting, scoring, timing, etc. . .Conduct Parents should exhibit the same high standard of integrity, sportsmanship and citizenship required of playersand coaches. Parents are asked to set an example for all players.Parents may not taunt or yell at any coaches, players or officials before, during and after game.Obscene or vulgar language will not be tolerated from parents, just like it’s not tolerated from players.Communication from Coaches To assist players in developing strong characters, we would like parents to encourage players to address anyissues with coaches themselves directly.Parents are encouraged to speak with coaches regarding: Concern with player behavior Scheduling conflicts General team encouragementBefore, during, or after practices and games is generally not an acceptable time to approach coaches for aconversation regarding the above. We would prefer that parents speak with the designated coach’s liaison tocoordinate a time for a discussion.Parents are discouraged from speaking with coaches regarding: Play time Coaching Strategies/Philosophies Substitution PoliciesWe appreciate the effort and contribution of all of the parents that make up our program. Without your support thisorganization would not exist!
