OPNAVNOTE 16509 Mar 01c. Joint Meritorious Unit Award. Only those members of the Armed Forces of the United Stateswho were present at the time and directly participated in the service or achievement for 30 days or more,or for the period cited if less than 30 days, are authorized to wear the JMUA ribbon. Personnel must beassigned and/or attached by official orders to the joint unit or task force receivingthe JMUA , either as individuals or as members of an assigned or attached unit. Local commanders maywaive, on an individual basis, the 30-day minimum time requirement for individuals (Reserve personnelon active duty and Temporary Duty and/or Temporary Active Duty personnel), who, in the purview ofthe commander contributed directly to the achievement cited, and were assigned on official orders to theawarded unit during the approved time frames.3. Action. Enclosures (1) through (8) are forwarded for information and use in determining eligibilityfor unit awards, campaign and service medals. Personnel Support Detachments and ships/unit personneloffices are to use these listings to determine eligibility for only those personnel whose records theymaintain.
