Amen.I Peter 4:9-11Union Chapel Missionary Baptist ChurchJune 2010Volume VII, Issue 6Words from the Pastor“Goals”Today, everywhere you look, yousee people striving for fortune, fame and pleasure. Many havegoals that take them away fromGod ‐ rather than towardGod. The spirit of selfishnessseems to have taken control ofthe minds of many peopletoday. There are many leadersteaching and encouraging theseunrealistic goals. The questionsbefore us are, who is the authorof this sinful desire? And whatcan be done about it?First, we live in a world that is fullof people who believe that having fortune and fame will makethem happy. But, having these things in and of themselvescannot make one happy. Brothers and sisters, we have a lot ofrich unhappy people in the world. When our goals are self‐centered, we become blind to the more important things inlife.Instant gratification seems to be the “human desire” thesedays. People are seeking pleasure, and they want toexperience that pleasure “right now.” Now, we are to blamefor this evil mentality. But the devil is the ultimate source ofthis evil urge to instant pleasure. He is leading many intodrug addiction, sexual addiction and many other ungodlydestructive addictions. As long as our goals are fortune, fame and pleasure, the devil will continue to lead us towardfruitless goals and aspirations. However, if we re‐focus and understand that our goal in lifeshould be to glorify God, seek and do His will, and if this isdone and become priority in our lives; we will experience truehappiness.Your Servant Leader,O. Wendell Davis

“Without aVision thepeople ”Proverbs29:18Envision a church that is a grace‐filled and spiritual church. It is not super—spiritual, butit is genuinely spiritual. It is not simply a social gathering where people meet theirfriends. It is a church where people seek to be filled with the Spirit and be led by theSpirit. It is a church where people are in love with Jesus and show that love by worship‐ping God with their whole heart and by serving Him in like manner. It is a church wherethe love of God is evident everywhere. It is a church where each member is encouragedto discover the gifts of the Spirit which God has given them, and where no gift is dispar‐aged or demeaned, nor where any is artificially elevated or demanded, but where wezealously desire to see a genuine move of god in our midst. It is a church where prayer isnot only encouraged but engaged in, and where prayer is not just said but prayed andwhere the people experience the life of the Spirit in response to regular, diligent, andsometimes extraordinary prayerYour Servant Leader,O. Wendell DavisThoughts for Father’s DayAn unknown father who began to consider theexample he should set for his children penned thefollowing poem:A careful man I ought to be;A little fellow follows me;I do not dare to go astrayFor fear he’ll go the self‐same way.I cannot once escape his eyes;Whate’er he sees me do, he tries —Like me, he says, he’s going to be,The little chap who follows me.He thinks that I am good and fine,Believes in every word of mine:The base in me he must not see,The little chap who follows me.I must remember as I go,Through summer’s sun and winter’s snow,I’m building for the years to be,For a little fellow follows me.Page 3
