Thisyear, we have several new members to add to the staff! Many ofthem are freshmen and sophomores who we hope to keep forthe next couple of years. Some of them are seniors, and we areglad to have them as a part of our staff for at least one moreyear. They come from various cities in Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois. Each one has their own unique experiences and talentsthat will definitely add to the experiences here at the center. Weare looking forward to seeing them grow as leaders, and to seewhat new and exciting things they can add to After School Program.Did you know?Did you know what service projects Against the Flow completes?Answer Page 2.

Loss of a StudentDuring September, one of our children, Shelly Nelson, passed away from anasthma attack at home. She was a beloved child here at the center who had areal passion for God and was constantly asking questions to get to knowmore. She really enjoyed singing during chapel and creating and dancing praisedances. She also loved being apart of our Drama Club and Against the Flow. For several years, she has gone with Emma Jean to the ISU Women’s Basketball games. Shelly was quiet and soft spoken at times, but could be a real leaderwhen she needed to be. We will miss her passion and creativity here at thecenter. We ask for continued prayers for her family including her 3 siblingswho still attend the center. We are glad to see that Shelly is no longer suffering with her asthma and rejoice in knowing she has joined God. We also askfor continued prayers for our other kids who suffer from asthma. This loss hasscared some of them, and we know that living with asthma can be difficult attimes especially during warm weather. We hope that the memory of Shelly willlive on here at the center.Financial AssistanceAs we head into the cold winter months and the holiday season, we worryabout the future of the center and how we will be able to keep our kids warm and ensure Christmas will be special foreach family. We could definitely use some assistance to make sure the costs of coats, presents, and rising bills are covered. Every little bit can help make a difference in the lives of kids who have very little. We worry about heating thebuilding and the rising cost of food as our numbers increase as we get closer to Christmas. We appreciate any contributions during this time.AppreciationWe appreciate Danny Tanoos and the Steve Weatherford Foundation for their continued support. We were recentlygiven tickets to an ISU Football game. We were able to give some of our kids an unique experience of watching a college football game. The kids were very excited for this opportunity and enjoyed a Saturday with friends. Thank SteveWeatherford Foundation and Danny Tanoos for your continued support!Food PantryThe Food Pantry is continuing to serve severalhundreds of food requests each month. As wehead into the holiday season, we know we aregoing to see even more as families begin to planfor the holiday meals. Each Tuesday, from 8 amto noon, the ramp of the pantry is lined with people waiting to receive assistance. The pantry isopen for 3 hours each week, and people can receive assistance once a month. It is great to beable to help such a growing need, but we can onlydo so much. Our shelves are consistently wipedclean each week. Our volunteers at the food pantry do a wonderful job of assisting each individualand are faithful in returning each week. We appreciate our volunteers dedication and our donors who make each week possible. The newramp that was installed this summer looks like itshould endure the heavy flow of traffic from donations and lines as we head into the wintermonths.Did you know? Each month, Against the Flow completes a service project to give back to the community. During the fall, they decorate a float for the homecoming parade and walk in the parade. They also make and take Christmas cards to nursinghomes in Terre Haute.Page 2NEWS AROUND THE CORNER

Most of us plan a bigThanksgiving meal, what gifts to give family and friends for Christmas, how to decorate, and where we’re spending Christmas. The holidays are a wonderful time to get together with family and friends and share together, thanking God for all He has done for us.At 14th and Chestnut, we are also beginning to make holiday plans. Each year, we help the families ofour children that regularly attend our program. More than 70 families are blessed with a Thanksgiving food basket, Christmas food basket, and presents for the children. The holidays can be a very stressful, depressing time ifyou don’t know how you’re going to provide for your family. With your help, we are able to relieve some ofthat stress and spread the joy and love of Jesus to the families of our children.Attached is a list of the food items we are collecting for the food baskets. We ask you to prayerfullyconsider collecting the items for one basket, or collecting one or two items in bulk. There are also other waysto get involved, including sponsoring a family for Christmas, providing gifts for children, or giving a monetary donation to help with heating the building this winter. Without your help, we won’t be able to keep our doorsopen and provide a warm place for the kids to come after school this winter. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Times are tough, but with your help, we trust that God will provide. If you need any further information about how to get involved, please call us at (812)232-3126, and wewill be happy to talk to you.
