History of CBCCanby Bible College, originally called the Leadership TrainingInstitute, was founded in 1998 under the leadership of PastorRon Swor and direction of Pastor Al Carpenter, who served asDirector of CBC until 2005. He was succeeded by Dr. JeremyWallace, the current Dean of the College, who is continuingthe Canby Bible College mission of equipping laborers for theharvest. To equip students for the work of the ministry, ahighly trained and credentialed faculty with decades ofteaching, pastoral and missions experience have developed atwo‐year curriculum in which the entire Bible is examined, giving students a solid foundation of the central doctrines, messages and themes set forth in Scripture. In addition, several classes are offered which equip students in the areasof spiritual leadership, Biblical interpretation, and practicalministry, as they are given opportunity for “hands‐on”ministry experience in the context of the local church. Toresource students in completing their class assignments, CBCmaintains a library containing over 3,000 volumes, softwareprograms and periodicals that are recognized as classicresources for biblical studies. In 2000, Canby Bible College was recognized by the Interna‐tional Church of the Foursquare Gospel as a “Certified,Church‐Based Bible College.” In 2001, CBC was grantedreligious exempt status by the State of Oregon to confer an10

Associate of Christian Ministry degree upon those who graduatefrom the two‐year program. In 2009, CBC was granted religiousexempt status by the State of Washington. Many CBC graduates have continued their education and earnedBachelors Degrees. CBC currently has transfer arrangements withLIFE Pacific College, New Hope Christian College (Eugene, Ore‐gon), New Hope Christian College (Hawaii), King’s University, andPacific Life Bible College. Other CBC students have served abroadon the foreign mission field (including Mexico, Pakistan, Sri Lanka,Thailand, South Africa, China, England, Germany and France), inlocal church ministries, and numerous church planting endeavors. In fulfillment of our mission statement, over 75% of all CBC gradu‐ates have gone on to serve in full or part‐time ministry or havecontinued their education at other colleges. And numerous othergraduates are serving Christ in the market‐place, ministeringwhere God has planted them.11

A Word From The PresidentEvery time I read it, my passion for lost people grows a littledeeper and my commitment to discipleship becomes morefocused. No doubt you are familiar with the passage we call,“The Great Commission.”“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and onearth. Go therefore and make disciples of all thenations, baptizing them in the name of the Father andof the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them toobserve all things that I have commanded you; and lo,I am with you always, even to the end of theage” (Matthew 28:18‐20).In this passage, Jesus spoke about more than soul‐winning. He spoke about “making disciples” and “teaching” peopleabout the kingdom of God.Jesus revealed the importance of bringing those who werenewly saved to a place of spiritual maturity where they, inturn, could encourage others to become His disciples. This ismultiplication of ministry, which is the heart of Canby BibleCollege.CBC is committed to helping students become people ofinfluence in the kingdom of God. Our goal is that students12

influence others by the Presence of God in their lives throughtheir personality and gifting. CBC is designed to accomplish thisgoal through an in‐depth study of the Scriptures and throughpractical ministry experiences. We are committed to work inpartnership with the Holy Spirit to raise up the next generationof disciples who know God, and desire to make Him known toothers.Perhaps you sense that God is calling you to become His disciple,a person who is committed to follow in Jesus’ footsteps ofservant‐leadership. If this is the case, I would ask you to prayer‐fully consider enrolling in Canby Bible College. This will be a life‐changing experience, not only for you, but also for those your lifewill touch in the future.Pastor Ron SworPresident13

A Word From The DeanThe most formative years of my life were in college. It was atime where the “big questions of life” were answered – Whoam I? Why am I here? What am I to do with my life? Oneweekend I attended a church with a friend and the pastorquoted something Edmond Burke wrote many years ago,and I knew I would never forget it. He said, “All it takes forevil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” It was such animpacting moment in my life – I knew that I only had one lifeto live, and I knew I wanted to make it count. I knew thenext step for me would entail much preparation for the roadahead. The Apostle Paul, while preaching in a synagogue in PisidianAntioch, said, “When David had served God's purpose in hisown generation, he fell asleep” (Acts 13:36). In this simpleverse, I cannot help but see two vital realities: 1) God has apurpose for everyone, and 2) God desires to use each of usto reach our generation for His purposes. Again, in his letterto the Church in Ephesus, Paul clarifies God’s desire to useeveryone for ministry purposes: “He Himself gave some to beapostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastorsand teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work ofministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians4:11‐12).14

I share these Scriptures with you because I know God wants touse you for His Kingdom purposes. He has a burning desire touse you to impact everyone around you. He wants to equipyou to be the minister you are called to be. Though everyoneis not called to full‐time vocational ministry, everyone is calledto be a faithful, equipped, anointed, willing laborer who ispassionate for the Harvest. Jesus Himself said, “The harvest isplentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord ofthe harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew9:37‐8). This is our primary goal at Canby Bible College –“equipping laborers for the harvest.” Here you will grow in anenvironment that is educational, relational, and missional. There is no better place to grow in knowledge while becomingmore passionately in love with our Savior!Join us next semester as a full‐time, part‐time, or auditingstudent. It will change your life!Dr. Jeremy WallaceDean of the College15

Mission Statement &Institutional PurposeMission StatementCanby Bible College is dedicated to the work of “EquippingLaborers for the Harvest.”Institution PurposeEvery generation is called by God to make disciples who areable to accurately represent the life of Jesus Christ to othersthrough servant‐leadership. In light of this commission, CanbyBible College is committed to encourage the spiritual growthand development of each student, toresource students with BiblicalCBC providesknowledge and training necessary foraneducationalministry, and to release students toexperience, fulfill the call of God upon their lives.in a relationalenvironment, toward amissionalpurpose.Canby Bible College exists to equipsaints for the work of ministry, for theedifying of the Body of Christ (Eph.4:12). It is a priority of CBC to integrateclassical biblical wisdom into our mod‐ern day and age. In light of this, CBCseeks to uphold three distinct priorities: to provide aneducational experience, in a relational environment, toward amissional purpose. We desire to provide an environment inwhich the Holy Spirit is allowed the opportunity to grow thestudent’s personal character, individual calling, and ministrycompetency.16

We believe: In the verbal inspiration of the Holy Scriptures. In the absolute Trinity of the eternal Godhead: Father, Sonand Holy Spirit. In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, and His virgin birth. In the propitiation for sin only by the blood of Jesus Christ. In the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. In salvation by grace through faith and not of works. In divine healing in answer to believing prayer. In the personal baptism of the Holy Spirit as received by theApostles. In water baptism by immersion at an age of accountability. In the evangelization of the unsaved and the nations of theworld and discipling of the believer. In a balanced policy in public worship, between extremefanaticism and ultra‐ritualism. In tithing as God’s financial plan for the believer and thechurch. In the free moral willpower of man, who can backslide, apostatize and be lost. In the maintenance of good works and holy living. In the everlasting punishment of the impenitent. In a literal heaven and life everlasting for all true believers. In the personal, literal, bodily, pre‐millennial coming of theLord Jesus Christ. In Christian tolerance to all denominations of the Christianfaith. “In essentials ‐ unity, in non‐essentials ‐ liberty, in all things ‐charity.”17
