The Gospel According toJohnJohnThe Gospel According toAccording to Irenaeus, John the Apostle, the brother of James the Apostle, authored theGospel bearing his name in the AD 90s. But there is evidence for an earlier date closerto AD 70. While living in Ephesus, he composed this spiritual Gospel to supplement theother three Gospels. The believers of his day encouraged him to write this Gospel. He had outlivedall of the original apostles and did not suffer martyrdom. It is a unique testimony of the divinity,Messiahship, and eternal Sonship of Christ. John may have been refuting the initial teachings ofcertain heresies, such as Gnosticism, which later plagued the church in the second century. Hemay also have been debating with local synagogues in Ephesus about the real identity of theMessiah—Jesus Christ. This Gospel is distinctive from the other Gospels in that it has seven eventsin common with them: John the Baptist’s baptizing ministry, the feeding of the five thousand,Jesus’ walking on the water, Jesus’ anointing at Bethany, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, andthe Resurrection. Old Testament imagery saturates John’s Gospel.

JohnThe Word Became Flesh1In the beginning was the Word, and theWord was with God, and the Word wasGod. 2 He was in the beginning with God.3All things were created through Him, andwithout Him nothing was created that wascreated. 4 In Him was life, and the life was thelight of mankind. 5 The light shines in darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.6There was a man sent from God whosename was John. 7 This man came as a witnessin order to testify concerning the Light, thatall men through Him might believe. 8 He wasnot this Light, but was sent in order to testifyconcerning the Light.9The true Light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was inthe world, and the world was created throughHim, yet the world did not know Him. 11 Hecame to His own, and His own people did notreceive Him. 12 Yet to all who received Him,He gave the power to become sons of God, tothose who believed in His name, 13 who wereborn not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.14The Word became flesh and dwelt amongus, and we saw His glory, the glory as theonly Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.15John bore witness of Him and cried out,“This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comesafter me is preferred before me, for He wasbefore me.’ ” 16 We have all received from Hisfullness grace upon grace. 17 For the law wasgiven through Moses; grace and truth camethrough Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen Godat any time. The only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made Him known. The Testimony of John the BaptistMt 3:1–12; Mk 1:2–8; Lk 3:15–1719Now this is the testimony of John, whenthe Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 Heconfessed, and did not deny, but confessed,“I am not the Christ.”21They asked him, “Who then? Are youElijah?”He said, “I am not.”“Are you the Prophet?”He answered, “No.”22They said to him then, “Who are you? Tellus so that we may give an answer to thosewho sent us. What do you say concerningyourself?”1 23Isa 40:3.23John said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straightthe way of the Lord,’1 just as the prophetIsaiah said.”24Now those who were sent were from thePharisees. 25 They asked him, “Why do youbaptize then, if you are not the Christ, norElijah, nor the Prophet?”26John answered them, “I baptize with water, but One stands among you, whom youdo not know. 27 This is He who comes afterme, who is preferred before me, the strapof whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”28These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. The Lamb of God29The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God,who takes away the sin of the world. 30 Thisis He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Manwho is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him, but for thisreason I came baptizing with water: so thatHe might be revealed to Israel.”32Then John bore witness, saying, “I sawthe Spirit descending from heaven like adove, and it remained on Him. 33 I did notknow Him, but He who sent me to baptizewith water said to me, ‘The One on whomyou see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’34I have seen and have borne witness that Heis the Son of God.”The First Disciples35Again, the next day John was standingwith two of his disciples. 36 Looking upon Jesus as He walked, he said, “Look, the Lambof God!”37The two disciples heard him speak, andthey followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, saw them following, and said to them, “Whatdo you seek?”And they said to Him, “Rabbi” (whichmeans Teacher), “where are You staying?”39Jesus said to them, “Come and see.”So they came and saw where He stayed andremained with Him that day, for it was aboutthe tenth hour.40One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brotherSimon, and said to him, “We have found theMessiah” (which means the Christ). 42 Thenhe brought him to Jesus.

927When Jesus saw him, He said, “You areSimon the son of John. You shall be calledCephas” (which means Peter). The Calling of Philip and Nathanael43The next day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip, and said to him,“Follow Me.”44Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the cityof Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have foundHim of whom Moses in the law, as well asthe prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, theson of Joseph.”46Nathanael said to him, “Can any goodthing come out of Nazareth?”Philip said to him, “Come and see.”47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him andsaid concerning him, “Here is an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile.”48Nathanael said to Him, “How do Youknow me?”Jesus answered him, “Before Philip calledyou, when you were under the fig tree, I sawyou.”49Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, Youare the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”50Jesus answered him, “Because I said toyou, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do youbelieve? You will see greater things thanthese.” 51 And He said to him, “Truly, trulyI say to you, hereafter you shall see heavenopened and the angels of God ascending anddescending upon the Son of Man.”The Wedding at Cana2On the third day there was a weddingin Cana of Galilee. The mother of Jesuswas there. 2 Both Jesus and His disciples wereinvited to the wedding. 3 When the wine ranout, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “Theyhave no wine.”4Jesus said to her, “Woman, what doesthis have to do with Me? My hour has notyet come.”5His mother said to the servants, “WhateverHe says to you, do it.”6Six water pots made of stone were sittingthere, used for ceremonial cleansing by theJews, containing twenty to thirty gallons1each.7Jesus said to them, “Fill the water potswith water.” And they filled them up to thebrim.8Then He said to them, “Now draw someout, and take it to the master of the feast.”And they took it. 9 When the master of thefeast tasted the water that had been turnedinto wine, and did not know where it cameJ ohn 3 : 2from (though the servants who drew the water knew), the master of the feast called thebridegroom, 10 and he said to him, “Every manserves the good wine first, and after men havedrunk freely, then the poor wine is served. But you have kept the good wine until now.”11This, the first of His signs, Jesus did inCana of Galilee, and He revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.12After this He, and His mother, and Hisbrothers, and His disciples went down toCapernaum. They remained there a few days. The Cleansing of the TempleMt 21:12–17; Mk 11:15–17; Lk 19:45–4813The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple He found those who were selling oxenand sheep and doves, and the moneychangers sitting there. 15 When He had made a whipof cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. He poured out thechangers’ money and overturned the tables.16He said to those who sold doves, “Takethese things away! Do not make My Father’shouse a house of merchandise!” 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zealfor Your house will consume Me.” 218Then the Jews said to Him, “What signdo You show us, seeing that You do thesethings?”19Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”20Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-sixyears to build this temple, and will You raiseit up in three days?” 21 But He was speakingconcerning the temple of His body. 22 Therefore, when He was raised from the dead, Hisdisciples remembered that He had said thisto them. And they believed the Scripture andthe word which Jesus had spoken.Jesus Knows All Men23Now when He was in Jerusalem at thePassover Feast, many believed in His namewhen they saw the signs which He did. 24 ButJesus did not entrust Himself to them, because He knew all men, 25 and did not needanyone to bear witness of man, for He knewwhat was in man.Jesus and Nicodemus3There was a man of the Phariseesnamed Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.2He came to Jesus by night and said to Him,“Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher whohas come from God. For no one can do thesesigns that You do unless God is with him.”16 Gk. 2 to 3 metretes, or 75 to 115 liters. 2 17 Ps 69:9.

J ohn 3 : 39283Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly I say toyou, unless a man is born again, 1 he cannotsee the kingdom of God.”4Nicodemus said to Him, “How can aman be born when he is old? Can he entera second time into his mother’s womb andbe born?”5Jesus answered, “Truly, truly I say to you, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit,he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 Thatwhich is born of the flesh is flesh, and thatwhich is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do notmarvel that I said to you, ‘You must be bornagain.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not knowwhere it comes from or where it goes. So itis with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”9Nicodemus said to Him, “How can this be?”10Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, but you do not know thesethings? 11 Truly, truly I say to you, We speakof what We know and bear witness of whatWe have seen, but you do not receive Ourtestimony. 12 If I have told you earthly thingsand you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No onehas ascended to heaven except He who descended from heaven, even the Son of Manwho is in heaven. 14 Just as Moses lifted upthe serpent in the wilderness, even so mustthe Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoeverbelieves in Him should not perish, but mayhave eternal life.16“For God so loved the world that He gaveHis only begotten Son, that whoever believesin Him should not perish, but have eternallife. 17 For God did not send His Son into theworld to condemn the world, but that theworld through Him might be saved. 18 He whobelieves in Him is not condemned. But hewho does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name ofthe only begotten Son of God. 19 This is theverdict, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyonewho does evil hates the light and does notcome to the light, lest his deeds should beexposed. 21 But he who does the truth comesto the light, that it may be revealed that hisdeeds have been done in God.”Jesus and John the Baptist22After these things Jesus and His disciplescame into the land of Judea. He remainedwith them there and baptized. 23 John alsowas baptizing in Aenon toward Salim, because much water was there. And people13Or born from above.came and were baptized. 24 For John hadnot yet been put in prison. 25 Then a disputearose between some of John’s disciples andthe Jews about ceremonial cleansing. 26 Theycame to John and said to him, “Rabbi, Hewho was with you beyond the Jordan, towhom you bore witness, look, He is baptizing, and everyone is going to Him.”27John answered, “A man can receivenothing unless it has been given to himfrom heaven. 28 You yourselves bear witnessof me, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but‘I have been sent before Him.’ 29 He who hasthe bride is the bridegroom. But the friend ofthe bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30 Hemust increase, but I must decrease.”He Who Comes From Heaven31He who comes from above is above all.He who is of the earth is earthly and speaksof the earth. He who comes from heaven isabove all. 32 He bears witness of what He hasseen and heard, yet no one receives His testimony. 33 He who has received His testimonyhas certified that God is true. 34 For He whomGod has sent speaks the words of God, forGod gives the Spirit without measure to Him.35The Father loves the Son, and has placedall things into His hand. 36 He who believes inthe Son has eternal life. He who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrathof God remains on him.Jesus and the Samaritan Woman4Now when the Lord learned that thePharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John2(though Jesus Himself did not baptize, butHis disciples), 3 He left Judea and departedagain to Galilee.4Now it was necessary that He go throughSamaria. 5 So He came to a city of Samariawhich is called Sychar, near the plot ofground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.6Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, therefore, being exhausted from His journey, sat down bythe well. It was about the sixth hour.7A woman of Samaria came there to drawwater. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”8For His disciples had gone away into thecity to buy food.9Then the woman of Samaria said to Him,“How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drinkfrom me, a woman of Samaria?” For Jewshave no dealings with Samaritans.10Jesus answered her, “If you knew thegift of God, and who it is who is saying toyou, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked

929Him, and He would have given you livingwater.”11The woman said to Him, “Sir, You havenothing to draw with, and the well is deep.Where then do You get that living water?12Are You greater than our father Jacob, whogave us the well and drank from it himself, along with his sons and his livestock?”13Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinksof this water will thirst again, 14 but whoeverdrinks of the water that I shall give him willnever thirst. Indeed, the water that I shallgive him will become in him a well of waterspringing up into eternal life.”15The woman said to Him, “Sir, give methis water, so that I will not thirst, nor comehere to draw.”16Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”17The woman answered, “I have no husband.”Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying,‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had fivehusbands, and he whom you now have isnot your husband. So you have spoken truthfully.”19The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceivethat You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you all say thatin Jerusalem is the place where men oughtto worship.”21Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me,the hour is coming when neither on thismountain nor in Jerusalem will you worshipthe Father. 22 You worship what you do notknow; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 Yet the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipperswill worship the Father in spirit and truth. For the Father seeks such to worship Him.24God is Spirit, and those who worship Himmust worship Him in spirit and truth.”25The woman said to Him, “I know thatMessiah is coming” (who is called Christ).“When He comes, He will tell us all things.”26Jesus said to her, “I who speak to youam He.”27Then His disciples came. They marveledthat He talked with a woman. Yet no one said,“What do You seek?” or, “Why are You talkingwith her?”28The woman then left her water pot, wenther way into the city, and said to the men,29“Come, see a Man who told me all thingsthat I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”30They went out of the city and came to Him.31Meanwhile His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”32But He said to them, “I have food to eatof which you do not know.”J ohn 4 : 5 233Therefore the disciples said one to another, “Has anyone brought Him anythingto eat?”34Jesus said to them, “My food is to dothe will of Him who sent Me, and to finishHis work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yetfour months, and then comes the harvest’?Listen! I say to you, lift up your eyes andlook at the fields, for they are already whitefor harvest. 36 He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit that leads to eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reapsmay rejoice together. 37 For in this is thesaying true, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’38I sent you to reap a crop for which youdid not labor. And you have benefited fromtheir labor.”39Many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of thewoman who testified, “He told me all that Iever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came toHim, they asked Him to remain with them. And He stayed there two days. 41 And manymore believed because of His word.42They said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for wehave heard for ourselves and know that thisMan is indeed the Christ, the Savior of theworld.”The Healing of the Nobleman’s SonMt 8:5–13; Lk 7:1–1043After the two days He departed from thereand went to Galilee. 44 For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his owncountry. 45 Then, when He came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed Him, having seen allthe things He did at Jerusalem at the feast. For they had also gone to the feast.46So Jesus came again to Cana of Galileewhere He had made the water wine. Andthere was a certain nobleman whose sonwas sick in Capernaum. 47 When he heardthat Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him, pleading that He wouldcome down and heal his son, for he was atthe point of death.48Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you seesigns and wonders, you will not believe.”49The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, comedown before my child dies.”50Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Yourson lives.”And the man believed the word that Jesusspoke to him, and he went his way. 51 Whilehe was going down, his servants met himand told him, “Your son lives!” 52 When heinquired of them the hour when he began toheal, they answered, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

J ohn 4 : 5 393053Then the father knew that it was at thesame hour in which Jesus said to him, “Yourson lives.” So he and his whole householdbelieved.54This was the second sign that Jesus didwhen He had come from Judea to Galilee. The Healing at the Pool5After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now inJerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, which in Hebrew is called Bethesda, havingfive porches. 3 In these lay a great crowd ofinvalids, blind, lame, and paralyzed, waitingfor the moving of the water. 4 For an angelwent down at a certain time into the pool andstirred up the water. After the stirring of thewater, whoever stepped in first was healedof whatever disease he had. 5 A certain manwas there who had an illness for thirty-eightyears. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, andknew that he had been in that condition nowa long time, He said to him, “Do you want tobe healed?”7The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I haveno one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred. But while I am coming, anothersteps down before me.”8Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up yourbed and walk.” 9 Immediately the man washealed, took up his bed, and walked. That day was the Sabbath. 10 The Jewstherefore said to him who was cured, “It isthe Sabbath day. It is not lawful for you tocarry your bed.”11He answered them, “He who healed mesaid to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’ ”12So they asked him, “Who is the Man whosaid to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?”13Now the man who was healed did notknow who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn,as there was a crowd in that place.14Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have becomewhole. Sin no more lest something worsehappens to you.” 15 The man departed andtold the Jews that it was Jesus who hadhealed him.16So the Jews persecuted Jesus and soughtto kill Him, because He had done these thingson the Sabbath day. 17 Jesus answered them,“My Father is working still, and I am working.” 18 So the Jews sought even more to killHim, because He not only had broken theSabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.The Authority of the Son19Then Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I sayto you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do. For whateverHe does, likewise the Son does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all thingsthat He Himself does. And He will show Himgreater works than these so that you maymarvel. 21 For as the Father raises the deadand gives them life, even so the Son giveslife to whom He will. 22 The Father judges noone, but has committed all judgment to theSon, 23 that all men should honor the Son,just as they honor the Father. He who doesnot honor the Son does not honor the Fatherwho sent Him.24“Truly, truly I say to you, whoever hearsMy word and believes in Him who sent Mehas eternal life and shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death intolife. 25 Truly, truly I say to you, the hour iscoming, and is now here, when the dead willhear the voice of the Son of God, and thosewho hear will live. 26 For as the Father haslife in Himself, so He has given to the Sonto have life in Himself, 27 and has given Himauthority to execute judgment also, becauseHe is the Son of Man.28“Do not marvel at this. For the hour iscoming in which all who are in the graveswill hear His voice 29 and come out—thosewho have done good to the resurrection oflife, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. 30 I can do nothing ofMyself. As I hear, I judge. My judgment isjust, because I seek not My own will, but thewill of the Father who sent Me.Witnesses to Jesus31“If I bear witness of Myself, My testimony is not true. 32 There is another who bearswitness of Me, and I know that the testimonywhich He bears of Me is true.33“You sent to John, and he bore witness ofthe truth. 34 I do not receive testimony fromman, but I say these things that you may besaved. 35 He was a burning and a shininglamp, and you were willing for a season torejoice in his light.36“I have greater testimony than that ofJohn. The works which the Father has givenMe to finish, the very works that I do, bearwitness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.37The Father Himself, who has sent Me, hasborne witness of Me. You have neither heardHis voice at any time, nor seen His form.38You do not have His word abiding in you,for you do not believe the One He has sent.39You search the Scriptures, because youthink in them you have eternal life. Theseare they who bear witness of Me. 40 Yet youare not willing to come to Me that you mayhave life.

93141“I do not receive honor from men. 42 ButI know you, that you do not have the loveof God in you. 43 I have come in My Father’sname, but you do not receive Me. If anothercomes in his own name, you will receive him.44How can you believe, who receive gloryfrom one another and do not seek the glorythat comes from the only God?45“Do not think that I shall accuse you to theFather. There is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you believedMoses, you would believe Me, for he wrote ofMe. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”The Feeding of the Five ThousandMt 14:13–21; Mk 6:30–44; Lk 9:10–176After these things Jesus went acrossthe Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea ofTiberias. 2 And a great crowd followed Him,because they saw His signs which He did forthe sick. 3 Then Jesus went up on a mountain, and He sat there with His disciples.4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.5When Jesus looked up and saw a greatcrowd coming to Him, He said to Philip,“Where shall we buy bread that these mayeat?” 6 He said this to test him, for He Himselfknew what He would do.7Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii 1 worth of bread is not sufficient for eachof them to receive but a little.”8One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, 9 “There is a boyhere who has five barley loaves and twosmall fish. But what are they among somany?”10Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.”Now there was much grass in the place. Sothe men sat down, numbering about fivethousand. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, andwhen He had given thanks, He distributedthem to the disciples, and the disciples tothose who were sitting down; and likewise, they distributed the fish, as much as theywanted.12When they were filled, He told His disciples, “Collect the fragments that remain, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they collectedthem and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which wereleft over by those who had eaten.14When those men saw the sign whichHe had done, they then said, “This is trulythe Prophet who is to come into the world.”15Therefore, knowing that they would comeand take Him by force to make Him king,Jesus departed again to a mountain by Himself alone.J ohn 6 : 3 3Walking on the WaterMt 14:22–27; Mk 6:45–5216Now when evening came, His discipleswent down to the sea. 17 They got into a boatand went across the sea toward Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not cometo them. 18 The sea was stirred up becausea strong wind was blowing. 19 So when theyhad rowed about three or four miles, 2 theysaw Jesus walking on the sea and comingnear the boat. And they were afraid. 20 ButHe said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.”21Then they gladly received Him into theboat, and immediately the boat was at theland to which they were going.Jesus the Bread of Life22The following day the people who stoodon the other side of the sea saw that therewas no other boat there, except the one whichHis disciples had entered, and that Jesushad not entered the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away alone.23However, other boats came from Tiberiasnear the place where they ate bread whenthe Lord had given thanks. 24 When the people therefore saw that neither Jesus nor Hisdisciples were there, they also got into boatsand came to Capernaum, looking for Jesus.25When they found Him on the other sideof the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, whendid You come here?”26Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I sayto you, you seek Me not because you sawsigns, but because you ate of the loaves andwere filled. 27 Do not work for the food whichperishes, but for that food which enduresto eternal life, which the Son of Man willgive you. For God the Father has set Hisseal on Him.”28Then they asked Him, “What shall we dothat we may work the works of God?”29Jesus answered them, “This is the workof God, that you believe in Him whom Hehas sent.”30Therefore they said to Him, “What signdo You show then, that we may see andbelieve You? What work will You perform?31Our fathers ate manna in the desert. As itis written, ‘He gave them bread from heavento eat.’ 3”32Then Jesus said, “Truly, truly I say to you,Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true breadfrom heaven. 33 For the bread of God is Hewho comes down from heaven and gives lifeto the world.”17Eight months’ wages. 2 19 Gk. 25 to 30 stadia, or 5 or 6 kilometers.Ex 16:4, 15; Ne 9:15; Ps 78:24–25.3 31

J ohn 6 : 3 493234Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us thisbread always.”35Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life.Whoever comes to Me shall never hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.36But I told you that you have seen Me, andyet do not believe. 37 All whom the Fathergives Me will come to Me, and he who comesto Me I
