As His children enjoyinglife, we need to respect, defend, and pray for every humanlife. This week brings to the forefront of our minds the issueof abortion and our need to pray for life in the womb to berespected and defended. There are many resources online spectlife.org to name a few. This week, EWTN isairing various programs highlighting pro-life people andmovements, as well as the events of the Marches for Life inWashington D.C. and California. Let us pray in solidaritywith the Body of Christ for our brothers and sisters in troubleof losing their life and their parents.A Pro-Life movement called 9 Days for Life is praying aNovena starting January 19,and on January 22, the Churchwill pray for the legal protection of unborn children. Will youjoin the Church at prayer for the protection of the unborn, healing for the parents of abortion, and conversion of thosewho support abortion?Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for the preciousgift of life. Help us to cherish and protect this gift, even inthe midst of fear, pain, and suffering. Give us love for allpeople, especially the most vulnerable, and help us bear witness to the truth that every life is worth living. Grant us thehumility to accept help when we are in need, and teach us tobe merciful to all. Through our words and actions, may others encounter the outstretched hands of Your mercy. We askthis through Christ, our Lord. NEXT SUNDAY READINGS JANUARY 23, 2022FIRST READING - Nehemiah 8:2-4,5-6,8-10Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, which consisted of men, women, and those children old enough to understand.Standing at one end of the open place that was before the WaterGate, he read out of the book from daybreak till midday,in the presence of the men, the women, and those children oldenough to understand; and all the people listened attentively to thebook of the law. Ezra the scribe stood on a wooden platformthat had been made for the occasion. He opened the scroll so that allthe people might see it — for he was standing higher up than any ofthe people —; and, as he opened it, all the people rose.Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and all the people, theirhands raised high, answered, “Amen, amen!” Then they boweddown and prostrated themselves before the LORD, their faces to theground. Ezra read plainly from the book of the law of God,interpreting it so that all could understand what was read. Then Nehemiah, that is, His Excellency, and Ezra the priest-scribeand the Levites who were instructing the people said to all the people:“Today isholy totheLORDyourGod.Do not be sad, and do not weep”— for all the people were weepingas they heard the words of the law. He said further: “Go, eat richfoods and drink sweet drinks, and allot portions to those who hadnothing prepared; for today is holy to our LORD.Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the LORD must beyour strength!”SECOND READING - 1 Corinthians 12:12-303.But as it is, there are many parts, yet one body. The eye cannot sayto the hand, “I do not need you, “ nor again the head to the feet, “Ido not need you.” Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to beweaker are all the more necessary, and those parts of the body thatwe consider less honorable we surround with greater honor, and ourless presentable parts are treated with greater propriety, whereas ourmore presentable parts do not need this. But God has so constructedthe body as to give greater honor to a part that is without it,so that there may be no division in the body, but that the parts mayhave the same concern for one another. If one part suffers, all theparts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy.Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. Some people God has designated in the church to be, first, apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then, mighty deeds; then gifts of healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work mighty deeds?Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?GOSPEL - Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the eventsthat have been fulfilled among us, just as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning and ministers of the word have handedthem down to us, I too have decided, after investigating everythingaccurately anew, to write it down in an orderly sequence for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may realize the certainty ofthe teachings you have received. Jesus returned to Galilee in thepower of the Spirit, and news of him spread throughout the wholeregion. He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all. Hecame to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according tohis custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up toread and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled thescroll and found the passage where it was written: The Spirit of theLord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives andrecovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and toproclaim a year acceptable to the Lord. Rolling up the scroll, hehanded it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all inthe synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, “TodayBrothers and sisters: As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so alsoChrist. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were allgiven to drink of one Spirit. Now the body is not a single part, butmany. If a foot should say, “Because I am not a hand I do not belong to the body, “ it does not for this reason belong any less to thebody. Or if an ear should say, “Because I am not an eye I do notbelong to the body, “ it does not for this reason belong any less tothe body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearingbe? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smellbe? But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the bodythis Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”as he intended. If they were all one part, where would the body be?Key Scriptural Passage:When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him,“They have no wine.”(John 2:3)Questions for Discussion:Adult: When have you stepped in, as Mar y did at Cana, to try and make a difficult situation easier for someone?Child: What can you do this week to help makesomeone’s job a little easier?Readings For The Week ( Jan 17 - Jan 22)Monday .Eph 6:10-13, 18/Mt 19:16-26Tuesday .2 Sm 16:1-13/Mk 2:23-28Wednesday .1 Sm 17:32-33, 37,40-51/Mk 3:1-6Thursday . 1 Sm 18:6-9,19:1-7/Mk 3:7-12Friday .1 Cor 1:26-31/Mt 13:44-46Saturday 2 Sm 1:1-4,11-12,23-27/Mk 3:20-21REMEMBER IN PRAYERCelebrate with the Newly Married Wesley and Cassidy SmolikPro-LifeCorner “Abortion in the United States is fundamentally racist.
