The nomination needsto outline the reason for the nomination and how the criteria are met (or exceeded),not just the name.A Life Member is someone who has rendered outstanding service and havecompleted at least 10 years service with the Club as a Senior Member. Of the (10)year period, three (3) years must have been served on a committee, or such otherequivalent outstanding service as may be considered appropriate by the Committee.PHOTO GALLERYNominations for Life Membership will be submitted to the ‘Life Members’ SubCommittee. The Masters competition is opento all proficient lifesavers who are 30 yearsof age or above.Athletes can compete in ten separatedisciplinesswimming,simulatedemergency rescue, Ironman / Ironwoman,surf-ski, board, beach sprints, beach flags,surf boats and IRB.Beach, National Teams and all IRB eventswill be held at Glenelg Beach.Christies Beach will be the home of allMasters, Interclub and Surf Boat events.The Adelaide State Aquatic Centre will hostall Pool events. Page 4WBSLSC eNewsletterV’SWestpac Community CupCollingwood vs Adelaide CrowsSaturday 26 May 2012In partnership with Westpac, the Adelaide Crows and CollingwoodFootball Club, SLSSA has been given the opportunity to raise the profile ofsurf lifesaving as well as to highlight key water safety messages. Thechance to partner with these three prominent organisations is a terrificopportunity and SLSSA encourages every club to be involved in this event.A number of supporting events have been arranged to compliment theCommunity Cup profiling SLSSA. Our goal is to have representation fromall South Australian clubs to march around AAMI Stadium honouring surflifesaving in South Australia. To create maximum visual impact we require50% of members to be attired in patrol shirts (for the parade). All juniormembers would be required to wear their club cap and club shirt orjacket.Notes: All will be expected to participate in the lap around the oval. A minimum of 50% of those attending will be required to wear apatrol shirt for the parade (all adults and those 14 years of age andover). All attending are to be members.WBSLSC has 15 tickets available.The first 15 people to RSVP will receive the tickets!

I am a foundation member of this club, theinaugural club Secretary and a past President as well as being a currentVice Patron. I am also one of the “Tin Shedders”, dating back to 1955.I am also a National Director of the Australian Institute of EmergencyServices, and the State President here in South Australia.The National Young Volunteer Award is part of my brief.This is an annual event with a 5,000 grant from both the AustralianInstitute of Emergency Services and the Maritime Safety Authority. Itselects a young volunteer aged between 18 and 23 who has contributed anongoing commitment to his or her role in the Emergency Services field.Nominations are called for from all of the Emergency Servicesorganizations across Australia who have young volunteers in theirorganization.The annual winner receives an 11 day voyage on the Young Endeavour'Sail Training ship, paid for with this grant. He or she sails with other youngpeople to develop skills in teamwork, leadership and communications. Atrip of a lifetime!Last year Steven Rypp from the West Beach Surf Life Saving club wasnominated by his peers for this award He was a state finalist and thenational runner up.Steven impressed me and the members of the SA Board with hiscommitment to this club so much so that we nominated him again for the2011/12 award which was judged in Brisbane last month.He was unanimously judged the winner by all of the National Directors atour National meeting.All of the members of this club know Steven and are aware of his hugecontributions that have seen many young people go on to become valuableclub members in this wonderful organization, as well as his othercommitments to the community of South Australia.Well done Steven Rypp

Page 9WBSLSC eNewsletterSTEVE’S THOUGHTSAs the seasons' envelope folds overand the final sweat from a long andhard summer seals the year, workbegins already on preparing anddeveloping plans, programs andstructures to ensure the high level ofenjoymentandcommitmentexperienced by our members forfuture years and generations.After only weeks of mental recoverywe find ourselves once again ready topursue the elusive endorphin. It iswhat takes us from our sleep in theearly hours and drives us deep intothe evening void to reach ourpinnacles and aspirations.I believe that this club has lots more tooffer this state and nation and we arereally only scratching the surface onour potential. It comes at a time whenas a movement we have taken somehard knocks but this has onlyhardened our resolve.I would like to acknowledge ourofficials, who also sacrifice their time,for the hard work they have put inover the year and all the coaches whohave assisted with this year’s resultsbut special thanks to Pete Zuill, SarahGoodwin, all the buoy handlers andwater cover help for your support.I would also like the thank everyonefor your kind words, understandingand tolerance and hope I can retainyour belief for the coming season.SteveThe role of Secretary and DirectorMembers Services is up for re-election atthe AGM on the 27th of April.
