Since then we have improved the way we measure ourimpact on the environment and have made great strides in developing supportiverelationships with our suppliers and the communities where we have a presence. This early work helped us devise Fashion with Integrity in 2010, our framework forhelping ASOS to continue to grow responsibly and sustainably. In the past 2 yearswe have seen our programme become firmly embedded in the business, withethical trade and sustainable fashion moving into the Sourcing department and aclearer focus on four new pillars: Our Business, our Products, our Customers andour Community. Each year as we continue our overseas expansion, we are breaking our ownrecords in sales, the size of our product collections and the number of people weemployee. As we grow we create more jobs, help local communities to prosper, use our increasing influence to source more sustainable materials for our productsand can donate expertise and funding to more charitable projects both in the UKand elsewhere. We have an important roleto play in respecting, protecting and championingthe human rights ofeveryone we work with.Find out more about ourhuman rights policyOur Marketplace blog is oneway we’re engaging withthe wider industry onsustainable fashion issues:However, we also create more carbon emissions, have a greater demand for naturalresources and are responsible for ensuring decent working conditions for anincreasing number of supply chain workers. Our biggest challenges include:ensuring all of our suppliers operate fair and safe working environmentsachieving greater supply chain traceabilitysourcing more sustainable materialsreducing carbon emissions across our operationsreducing the impact of our packaging and creating less wasteUltimately, we are working to balance our unprecedented global growth with ourgoal of reducing our environmental footprint, whilst making an increasingly positivedifference to the lives of young people in our local communities. That is what Fashion with Integrity is all about, and is an approach that is helpingus to achieve our goal of being the number one online fashion destination fortwenty-some things.STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENTUnderstanding our stakeholders’ views and ensuring we build that into ourframework is central to how we think about corporate responsibility. We liaise with, among many others, suppliers, fellow retailers, customers, investors, governments,non-government organisations (NGOs), and local community groups, as well as, ofcourse, our own employees.THE UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACTASOS' Fashion with Integrity strategy reflects the ten principles of the UnitedNations Global Compact, a voluntary initiative that seeks to promote responsiblecorporate citizenship. In 2012, ASOS became a signatory to the Global Compact, which addresses basic human rights, labour standards, safeguarding theenvironment and anti-corruption measures. As we develop the Fashion withIntegrity strategy we continue to build on these 10 principles.2015 PERFORMANCECompleted our third Communication on Progress for the UNGCRolled out our new Fashion with Integrity frameworkDeveloped guidelines and held workshops with retail and editorialcolleagues on customer diversity and cultural sensitivityImplemented more detailed reporting on gifts and hospitality received andgiven by ASOS employeesEnhanced our business integrity due diligence process for key third partysuppliers and service providers in selected countries and industriesBrought Corporate Responsibility and Company Secretariat together tobecome the Corporate Responsibility and Governance department2016 COMMITMENTSReview the Do the Right Thing business integrity communications strategyIncrease awareness of the Speak Up hotlineFurther develop our work on cultural intelligence and diversity, with a focuson increasing access to our products and services for customers withdisabilitiesSITE MAPCONTACTSFOLLOW USACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT PRIVACY ity/fashion-with-integrity.aspx3 / 51

During this time he was involved with the development ofthe Fashion with Integrity strategy, providing guidance andresource and championing a value based, responsible corporateculture. Nick is also a Director of the ASOS Foundation and takes anactive role in fundraising as well as participating in programmesaimed at removing barriers faced by disadvantaged young people. Here he talks about some of his priorities as he takes over his newrole. Our ProductsOur BusinessOur CustomersOur CommunityPerformance andCommitmentsOur ReportsCAREERSOUR STORYWhat, in your opinion, are the key CR issues for ASOS in 2015?The over-riding issue for all of us on this planet is climate change and we'restepping up our work here. We're moving away from a 100% offset programmeand instead investing in projects that will directly reduce our carbon intensity. We're a fast growing business – so we can't deny that our footprint will getbigger – but we can invest in technology to increase energy efficiency, we cangreen our buildings, bring in more renewables, and with our supply partners wecan take a closer look at all our operations to remove waste. On the productside it's about choosing more sustainable and recycled fabrics, and workingwith our suppliers to reduce the environmental impacts of our products. The other top priority is to push ahead with our programme to build transparentsupply chains both overseas and in the UK. We have a strong ethical tradestrategy and I'm determined to promote a culture internally where it is 100%clear to everyone that we don't chase margin at the expense of workers in ourfactories. On the sustainability side, I've visited some fantastic supplieroperations overseas with innovative environmental initiatives, great quality andefficient production, who also offer a fair, decent and dignified place of work forthe people that make our products. That's what I want us to aim for everywhere. What is the company doing to address some of the other challengesfaced by young adults? We have always been committed to creating opportunities for young people tofulfil their potential. Across the business we are promoting young talent andfinding ways to share our success where we can. The ASOS Foundation is allabout removing barriers to success and we've set up a number of trainingprogrammes to help young people access opportunities in fashion andtechnology.I'm directly involved in these and have seen first-hand the positive impact thatour work with organisations like the Prince's Trust and Arrival Education canhave on the life chances for disadvantaged young people. It's also a talentstream – we have taken on some fantastic team members via this route andhope to employ more as our digital courses become more established.Nick’s biography:Nick Beighton is achartered accountant whoqualified at KPMG.Joining Matalan in 1999as Head of Finance, hebecame Business Changeand IT Director ahead ofhis appointment to thecompany's retail board in2003.In August 2005, Nickjoined the board ofLuminar entertainmentgroup as FinanceDirector, and became amember of the EUeCommerce Task Forceand the Future FiftyProgramme AdvisoryPanel.Nick Beighton joinedASOS in April 2009 asChief Financial Officerand has since workedclosely with NickRobertson on the growthof the company. In October 2014, NickBeighton was appointedChief Operating Officer. In September 2015assumed the role of ChiefExecutive Officer of thecompany in succession toNick Robertson. In the developing world we are going right back to basics to support economicdevelopment, by supporting water infrastructure and education, and promotingfinancial inclusion, especially for young women. That includes ouremployees, supply chain workers, customers, and people in the localcommunities who come into contact with our operations.OUR APPROACH TO HUMAN RIGHTSOur stance on human rights is derived from the following international standards:United Nations Universal Declaration of Human RightsUnited Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human RightsLabour Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO).By signing up to the UN Global Compact in 2012, we also commit to its tenprinciples that include six commitments to human rights and labour standards. Our human rights matrix, which includes clear guidelines on the rights ofemployees, customers, supply chain workers and communities, demonstrates howwe comply with our obligations. Our CommunityPROMOTING LABOUR RIGHTSPerformance andCommitmentsWe support and have implemented the frameworks of the UN and ILO treaties andconventions. They are reflected in our company values and culture, mainstreambusiness policies, supply chain risk-assessments and interactions with ourstakeholders. Regular training helps us to cement best practice among ouremployees. The whole approach is overseen and periodically reviewed by theASOS CR Leadership Group comprised of Legal Counsel & Company Secretary,Trading, Sourcing, People and Communications directors, Head of CorporateResponsibility and Senior Ethical Trade & Sourcing Manager. Our ReportsCAREERSOUR STORYFind out more about theUnited Nations GuidingPrinciples on Business andHuman RightsWe operate from the UK, but source from a worldwide supply base. Our humanrights approach has largely focused on safeguarding the labour rights of workerswithin our global supply chains, and promoting universally decent workingconditions in the sites that manufacture our products. We do this chiefly throughour ethical trade programme, using our commercial position to push for higherstandards where possible. Some of our suppliers are located in regions where working conditions are at timeschallenging and where human rights are not always upheld. We assess oursuppliers and their manufacturing sites against our Ethical Code of Conduct. Weidentify problems, then encourage and support our suppliers to remedy them andwork toward internationally acceptable labour standards as outlined within the Codethrough:on-site coaching by a labour standards specialist usually part of the ASOSregional team, or a third party such as an NGO representativeoff-site supplier training workshops attended by factory managers or owners, with speakers from our regional team, the ASOS head office ethical tradingteam, and local guest speakers on specific topics from time to timeon-going supplier monitoring and support provided by our regional ethical tradeteams. We also take a preventative approach: our buyers are trained on labour standardsand ethical trade principles, and they understand that our purchasing practices caninfluence factory working conditions and, through being judicious about who wework with, ultimately help to protect workers’ rights.SITE MAPCONTACTSFOLLOW USACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT PRIVACY al-compact/human-rights.aspx7 / 51
