04PROCESS &TIMELINEProcess for Getting Your Black BeltCertificationThere are no prerequisites for enrolling inthe Black Belt Certification Course, thoughthe program is designed for professionalsin a leadership role looking to enhancetheir problem-solving capabilities, as wellas their ability to help others do the same.Here’s a quick overview of what the processof earning your Lean/Six Sigma Black Beltlooks like in practice:Black Belt Certification TimelineThis Lean/Six Sigma Black BeltCertification online training courseincludes 25 hours of video course content,which are broken up into 5-15 minutesegments to maximize your attention andlearning efficiency. You’ll also be expectedto make time for one-on-one coachingsessions, a custom project, and preparingfor the final exam. That said,Gemba Academy’s Black Belt Certificationprogram is self-guided, allowing learnersto complete the course in their own time.Learners have access to the course content fora full calendar year from the time of purchase,giving them plenty of time to take in thecourse material and prepare for the exam.Who is this program for?Though Lean is traditionally associatedwith manufacturing, all Gemba Academytraining programs are industry agnostic.Our video lessons can be adapted to fit anyworkplace environment, and are designedto help companies of all sizes and acrossindustries drive and sustain continuousimprovement efforts.The one-on-one coaching aspect of ourcertification programs provide additionalguidance to learners and help them adaptconcepts introduced in the lessons to theirunique work environment.How do I prepare for the exam?Our program is designed for sequentiallearning. We recommend watching thelessons in order and working throughthe supplemental material provided ineach segment.We also recommend watching eachlesson at least twice: first to gain a basicunderstanding of the concepts presented inthe Black Belt Body of Knowledge, and againto dig in deeper and enforce each lesson.Beyond working through the lessons,it’s also a good idea to print out the coursematerials and organize them in a three-ringbinder. Do I have to work for a company toenroll in the Lean/Six Sigma Black BeltCertification program?No. You’re welcome to enroll in the BlackBelt Certification program without companysponsorship. In fact, earning a Lean/SixSigma Black Belt might be a good way toprepare for new job opportunities or buildyour skill set between jobs.However, you do need to complete a projectto earn the credential, and that projectinvolves solving a real-world problem withreal data that can be analyzed and measured.The reason for this requirement is thatsimulations and hypotheticals don’t offerthe same learning experience as solving aproblem that has real-world implications.Will Gemba Academy’s Lean/Six SigmaBlack Belt Certification be recognizedin my industry?Gemba Academy’s Black Belt Certificationisn’t accredited by a university nor is itaffiliated with an official professionalorganization. However, our course isdesigned by Lean and Six Sigma expertswith real-world experience.
