VIDMARFor more than 40 years, Vidmar has meant one thing to customers around the world—heavy-dutystorage solutions for heavy-duty applications.Swiss manufacturer A&R Weidemar introduced the first modular-drawer cabinet in the 1940s in theform of a tool crib composed of enclosed steel storage modules that held full-suspension heavy-dutydrawers. When introduced to these tool cribs, John Kleinoder, a Brooklyn-based tool and die maker,saw them as the perfect solution for storing metalworking tools. He also saw that they were muchmore than toolboxes, and knew that their potential market went well beyond machine shops.In 1958, Kleinoder arranged to manufacture Weidemar cabinets in the United States under thename “Vidmar.” In 1962, Vidmar cabinets became part of the first photocopiers made by HaloidCorporation, which would become Xerox Corporation. In 1965, Xerox asked Vidmar to open a plantin Allentown, Pennsylvania. A year later, Kleinoder sold the company to The Stanley Works, nowknown as Stanley Black & Decker of New Britain, Connecticut.Today, Vidmar, as the company is now known, still makes all of our products to order at ourAllentown facility.
