30 Days of Praying the Names and Attributes of Godby The NavigatorsJanuary 29, 2007Though God is infinitely far above our ability to fully understand, He tells us through theScriptures very specific truths about Himself so that we can know what He is like, and be drawnto worship Him. The following is a list of 30 names and attributes of God. Use this guide to enrichyour time set apart with God by taking one description of Him and meditating on that for one day, along with the accompanying passage. Worship God, focusing on Him and His character.1. God is Jehovah. The name of the independent, self-complete being—“I AMWHO I AM”—only belongs to Jehovah God. Our proper response to Him is to falldown in fear and awe of the One who possesses all authority.—Exodus 3:13-152. God is Jehovah-M’Kaddesh. This name means “the God who sanctifies.” AGod separate from all that is evil requires that the people who follow Him becleansed from all evil.—Leviticus 20:7, 83. God is infinite. God is beyond measurement—we cannot define Him by size oramount. He has no beginning, no end, and no limits.—Romans 11:334. God is omnipotent. This means God is all-powerful. He spoke all things intobeing, and all things—every cell, every breath, every thought—are sustained byHim. There is nothing too difficult for Him to do.—Jeremiah 32:17, 18, 26, 275. God is good. God is the embodiment of perfect goodness, and is kind, benevolent, and full of good will toward all creation.—Psalm 119:65-726. God is love. God’s love is so great that He gave His only Son to bring us intofellowship with Him. God’s love not only encompasses the world, but embraceseach of us personally and intimately.—1 John 4:7-107. God is Jehovah-jireh. This name means “the God who provides.” Just as Heprovided yesterday, He will also provide today and tomorrow. He grantsdeliverance from sin, the oil of joy for the ashes of sorrow, and eternal citizenshipin His Kingdom for all those adopted into His household.—Genesis 22:9-144

8. God is Jehovah-shalom. It is theproduct of fully being what we were created to be.—Judges 6:16-249. God is immutable. All that God is, He has always been. All that He has beenand is, He will ever be. He is ever perfect and unchanging.—Psalm 102:25-2810. God is transcendent. We must not think of God as simply the highest in anorder of beings. This would be to grant Him eminence but he is more thaneminent. He is transcendent—existing beyond and above the created universe.—Psalm 113:4, 511. God is just. God is righteous and holy, fair and equitable in all things. We cantrust Him to always do what is right.—Psalm 75:1-712. God is holy. God’s holiness is not simply a better version of the best weknow. God is utterly and supremely untainted. His holiness stands apart —uniqueand incomprehensible.—Revelation 4:8-1113. God is Jehovah-rophe. 17. God is merciful. God’s merciful compassion is infinite and inexhaustible.Through His provision in Christ, He took the judgment that was rightfully ours andplaced it on His own shoulders. He waits and works now for all people to turn toHim and to live under His justification.—Deuteronomy 4:29-3118. God is sovereign. God presides over every event, great or small, and He isin control of our lives. 27. God is the Church’s head. God the Son, Jesus, is the head of the Church. As the head, the part of the body that sees, hears, thinks, and decides, He givesthe orders that the rest of the body lives by.—Ephesians 1:22, 2328. Creating a Vocabulary of PraiseA 31-Day Focus on God's AttributesIssue 12May/June 1999Bob HostetlerI’ve always been able to hold up my end of a conversation without difficulty. Except, that is, when it came toprayer, and particularly when I tried to express my praise to God. Attempting to begin and end my prayer timeswith praise and adoration, I often found myself flat-out speechless. I wanted to praise God with all that waswithin me, but I couldn’t think of one sensible thing to say.I recently read a book called Invading the Privacy of God by Cecil “Cec” Murphey. The book describes how Cec’sprayer life was revolutionized when he settled on the practice of praying God’s attributes as praise. I began imitatingthat practice in my own times of praise, and over the course of a few months, I developed a “program of praise” thathas proven wonderfully helpful. It has opened a door for me, and my praises to God now flow freely from my heartand lips during prayer. 31 Days of God's Words of Loveby Suzanne Carlson1.Psalm 86:15But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercyand truth.I John 4:16And we have known and believed the love that God hath toward us. God is love; and he that dwellethin love dwelleth in God, and God in him.2.1 John 4:9-10In this was the love of God manifested toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into theworld, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, andsent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.Psalm 89:15-16Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thycountenance. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day; and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.3.Psalm 16:11Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there arepleasures for evermore.4.Mark 12:28-31And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he hadanswered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, Thefirst of all the commandments is, Hear O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love theLord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor asthyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.5.Galatians 2:20I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the faith which Inow live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.6.Song of Solomon 2:10,14My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. O my dove, thouart in the clefts of the rocks, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hearthy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.7.Ephesians 2:4-7But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead insins, hath quickened us together with Christ, And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together14

in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. That in ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of hisgrace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.8.1 John 3:1-2Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons ofGod: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew not him. Beloved, now are we the sons ofGod, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that when he shall appear, we shall belike him; for we shall see him as he is.9.Hebrews 4:15-16For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was inall points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.13.Lamentations 3:21-26This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through himthat loved us.16.Psalm 94:17-20Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. Know therefore, that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them thatlove him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.19.Psalm 143:8Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the waywherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.20.Psalm 128:1-2Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
