Welcome ! We are so glad that you are here with us! At Saint Brigid Parish, we jointogether in community to encounter and love Jesus and one another, so we can go out and bedisciples who serve the world. Come be a part of the mission with us! Whether you’re a long-timeparishioner, visitor, church shopper, or making your way back to practicing your faith, there isalways a place for you here. We hope that by gathering to pray, grow, and love, we all can learn tolive like Jesus and become who we are called to be. Follow along with the Mass on pages 8 and 9.CLERGY CORNER Deacon Patrick McCay¡Feliz Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe!Happy Virgin of Guadalupe Day!Not only is this Sunday the third Sunday of Advent, but it is also the Feast of OurLady of Guadalupe. On this date almost 500 years ago, Mary the Mother of Godappeared to Saint Juan Diego, a humble, indigenous man of faith at Tepeyac nearMexico City. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe has always been one of my favorite liturgies at Saint Brigid. We havea small but mighty group of brothers and sisters from Mexico and other Latin American countries thathave a great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. For many years, I have had the pleasure of being part ofthe music group, singing songs of joy and gratitude for the gift of Our Lady. This year will be different forme. Now that I am ordained, I will be the Deacon of the Mass. This will be a whole new perspective forme. I am planning to give a bilingual homily and participate in the Spanish language at Mass. Don’t besurprised if you still hear me singing enthusiastically from my new place near the altar. For the first time, Iwill be wearing my beautiful new stole embroidered with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that wasgiven to me as an ordination present by my music sisters and brothers. As Our Lady spoke to Juan Diego, she said, “I am truly your compassionate Mother; your Mother and theMother to all who dwell in this land and to all other nations and peoples.” Mary’s appearance at Tepeyachad a pivotal effect on the evangelization of the indigenous people of Mexico. La Morenita’s message ofGod’s love overflows the boundaries of Mexico, spreading to people across the Americas, including righthere in North America. She is the Patroness of Mexico and the Americas. Mary, the mother of us all, points all peoples of all cultures to Jesus. ¡Viva la Virgen! The Mass and Celebration are this Monday, December 13, at 6 pm.Weekly Reflection Carry God’s Word And These Intentions with You This rdayLuke 3:10-18Matthew 21:23-27Matthew 21: 28-32Luke 7:18-23Luke 7:24-30Matthew 1:1-17Matthew 1:18-25Our Lady of GuadalupeSt. LucySt. John of the CrossSt. Mary Di RosaSt. Ado of VienneSt. OlympiasSt. RufusMASS INTENTIONSLuis Martinez †Luis Martinez †Pat Weldon †Luis Martinez †Monsignor Sean Murray †Santa Rizzuto †† Indicates DeceasedHow can we pray for you?You are welcome to submit any personal prayer requests at saintbrigidparish.org/prayer-request.2

Advent Season—Gaudete!Did you Know? The Third Sunday of Advent is always known as “Gaudete Sunday.”“Gaudete” (pronounced, gau-day-tay) is Latin for “rejoice,” and the namefor the day is taken from the entrance antiphon of the Mass, which is:“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near.”On Gaudete Sunday, the rose-colored candle (representing joy) is lit onthe Advent Wreath, and the priest has the option of wearing rose orviolet vestments. Rejoice! The Lord is with you; and with your spirit.Advent resources: saintbrigidparish.org/advent.Share a picture of your Advent wreath with us! The Way of a DiscipleRejoice in the Lord Always, Again I Say Rejoice!“Are you ready for Christmas?” How many times are we asked thatquestion as December 25 approaches? For many of us, even thethought induces stress! We think of the gifts to be purchased, lightsand stockings to be hung, cards to be written, treats to be baked, and events to be attended. Or, we might be suffering grief from theloss of a loved one, a difficult financial situation, depression oraddiction, or a frightening diagnosis. Whatever the case, this time ofyear can seem anything but joyful. How can we experience joy inthe midst of our circumstances? It helps to differentiate “joy” from “happiness.” While happinesstends to be dependent on circumstances, joy is a fruit of the Spirit(see Galatians 5:22-23) and stems from our relationship with God.Let’s look at what the Church has to say about joy. This Sunday, ourliturgical calendar focuses on the theme of joy. We ceremoniouslylight the pink candle and the Mass readings give us some helpfulinsights as they contain the words “joy,” “joyfully,” “glad,” “gladness,”“exult,” and “rejoice” twenty times! Here are some things theseScriptures call us be joyful about: Who God Is—a mighty savior, the fountain of salvation, the HolyOne, the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire What God Has Done—forgiven, protected, saved, remained with us, given strength and courage, renewed us, rejoiced in us, given us peace that surpasses all understanding, and guarded our heartsand minds. God has done these things and more in the past, and God will do them today and forever. Who We Are—God’s beloved sons and daughters and God sings joyfully over each and all of us!For Reflection1. Based on your own experience, list God’scharacteristics and attributes .2. Is something preventing you fromaccepting your identity as God’s beloved?3. What could you do to spread some joy inthe coming week?God loves us, is in our midst, and dwells within eachof us. What difference does that make in the way welive? Again, our Scriptures show us the way: givethanks, praise God’s name and deeds, be kind, pray(time in communion with God), petition (tell God ourneeds and the needs of others), share ourpossessions with those in need, let God free us fromthe bondage of the things that keep us frombecoming more Christlike.Christ is coming, Christ is in our midst, Christ is in ourhearts. Let us rejoice and be glad!Ongoing Ways to Encounter, Love, and ServePrayerCare and SupportCommunitiesServeAdoration, nightWATCH,Centering Prayer, HealingPrayersaintbrigidparish.org/prayHomebound, Bereavement,Mental Health, 12-StepRecovery, Divorce Supportsaintbrigidparish.org/care-andsupportYouth, Young Adults, Families,Adults, Active 60s , Seniors,Knights of Columbussaintbrigidparish.org/communitiesNeighbors in Need, LiturgicalMinistry, Music Ministry,Hospitality, Faith Formation,Food Distributionsaintbrigidparish.org/serveLooking for more?
