This is a preview of "CSA C22.2 No. 0-2020". Click here to purchase the full version from the ANSI store.CSA C22.2 No. 0:20General requirements — Canadian Electrical Code, Part IIPrefaceThis is the eleventh edition of CSA C22.2 No. 0, General requirements — Canadian Electrical Code, PartII. It supersedes the previous editions, published in 2010, 1991, 1982, 1975, 1960, 1956, 1950, 1941,1936, and 1932.Changes in this edition include the following:a) updates of definitions to align with Canadian Electrical Code, Part I;b) addition of an alternative method to spacing tables for high voltage equipment;c) removal of requirements on double-insulation;d) prohibition of asbestos;e) new reference to pressure vessels; andf) general editorial changes and clarifications of clauses. The Canadian Electrical Code is a publication issued by CSA Group in several parts. Among these arePart I, which establishes safety standards for the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment, and Part II, which consists of safety standards governing the construction, testing, and marking ofelectrical equipment.Part II Standards are prepared by Subcommittees that operate under the jurisdiction of TechnicalCommittees, which in turn are responsible to the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements forElectrical Safety. In the preparation of these Standards, the views of interested organizations are takeninto account, i.e., regulatory authorities, industrial organizations, and representatives of generalinterests. This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of theStandard. This Standard was prepared by the Subcommittee on General Requirements, CE Code, Part II, under thejurisdiction of the Technical Committee on General Requirements, CE Code, Part II and the StrategicSteering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety, and has been formally approved by theTechnical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements forNational Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.Interpretations: The Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety has providedthe following direction for the interpretation of standards under its jurisdiction: “The literal text shall beused in judging compliance of products with the safety requirements of this Standard. When the literaltext cannot be applied to the product, such as for new materials or construction, and when a relevantCSA committee interpretation has not already been published, CSA Group’s procedures forinterpretation shall be followed to determine the intended safety principle.”Notes:1) Use of the singular does not exclude the plural (and vice versa) when the sense allows.2) Although the intended primary application of this Standard is stated in its Scope, it is important to note that itremains the responsibility of the users of the Standard to judge its suitability for their particular purpose.3) This Standard was developed by consensus, which is defined by CSA Policy governing standardization — Codeof good practice for standardization as “substantial agreement. Consensus implies much more than a simplemajority, but not necessarily unanimity”. It is consistent with this definition that a member may be included inthe Technical Committee list and yet not be in full agreement with all clauses of this Standard.April 2020 2020 Canadian Standards Association6
