While this is my first MississippiState Fair to serve as your Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, attending theFair is a Gipson family tradition. My family and I have attended every year since Iwas a boy, and now my wife Leslie and I have the joy of bringing our four children tothe State Fair.During the 12 days of the Mississippi State Fair, the 105 acre fairgrounds istransformed into an exciting amusement park filled with the most delicious fair food,carnival rides, games, shows and contests. Spectators and participants can findexcitement in numerous livestock shows and musical entertainment for all ages fromheadliner artists.Make sure to come by one of the most popular stops on the Midway — theBiscuit Booth, for a warm, homemade biscuit compliments of the employees from theMississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce. The Superintendent of the various departments may be contacted in thebuilding in which their exhibits are displayed.EXPRESSAny express shipment must be prepaid and addressed to the Mississippi State Fair.No C.O.D. parcels will be accepted by the administrative offices.MAILMail addressed to anyone in care of the Mississippi State Fair will be held at theadministrative offices on the South Side of the Coliseum.AUTOMOBILE PARKINGThe Mississippi State Fair will provide parking space for automobiles within adesignated area. The fee for parking each time is 5.00.HAY & BEDDINGExhibitors of livestock may secure hay & bedding for livestock from the shavingsoffice in barn 3. Check with livestock office in barn 14 for shaving office businesshours.ADVERTISINGNo person shall be allowed to distribute any printed advertising matter on theFairgrounds or in the buildings, except that an exhibitor may hand out advertisingmatter of his own business from the space occupied by his exhibit.TICKETSExhibitors, employees, and other tickets may be picked up at the administrativeoffices on the South Side of the Coliseum, if not received sooner.CAMPINGCamping space is available at a rate of 20.00 per day. T he Mississippi State Fair reserves to itself the sole and absolute right to construe its ownrules and regulations and to determine all matters and differences in regard thereof, fromwhich there is no appeal.2. G eneral Rules shall take precedent over Department rules in case of conflict.ENTRIES AND EXHIBITORS3. A ll entries must be made on regular entry blanks furnished by the Mississippi State Fairand filed with the secretary.4. No animal or article will be entitled to a place on the fairgrounds until proper entry thereofshall have been made. Every entry must be made in the name of the bona fide owner at thetime of entry.5. For arrival and departure time of exhibits, see schedule of events.6. E xhibitors will be required to keep their spaces in a clean condition, and see that theirexhibits have personal attention, and at the close of the fair take entire charge thereof.7. E xhibitors of livestock must exercise due discretion in regard to the animals they areexhibiting, whether in the ring, stall or pen; and assume all responsibility for any damagecaused by their animals. They must exhibit and parade their animals in the ring providedfor that purpose at the discretion of the Superintendent.8. A ny owner, or exhibitor, or persons, exhibiting animals or articles and who publicly expressdisapproval, in the show ring or on the grounds, of the decision of the Judge or Judges,or who by act or interference shall be guilty of conduct unbecoming an exhibitor, may bedisqualified and be requested to remove themselves and their exhibits from the grounds.They may not be permitted to compete for premiums at future state fairs.PREMIUMS AND AWARDS9. T he awarding of premiums at the fair shall be confined to entries named in the premiumlist, and new classes shall not be added.10. W HERE THERE IS NO COMPETITION BETWEEN EXHIBITORS, ONLY ONEPREMIUM SHALL BE AWARDED. The premium to be paid and the ribbons to be placedon the exhibit are to be left to the discretion of the Judge. Merit of the exhibit is to be thedetermining factor. No animal or article deemed unworthy shall be awarded a premium.Merit must exist.11. P remium checks will be mailed by the fair to winning exhibitors, according to books signedby Judges and Superintendents, as soon as possible after the close of the fair.12. N O PREMIUMS WILL BE PAID IF EXHIBITS ARE REMOVED BEFORE STATEDTIME OF RELEASE.13. Premium checks not cashed within 90 days will be void.

MISSISSIPPI STATE FAIR1314. A ny judge may demand proof of age of any animal where a doubt exists and awards ofpremiums will be withheld until satisfactory proof of age is given.15. T he Judge and Superintendent of the department shall sign each award book immediatelyafter all awards have been made.16. T he Superintendents of the respective departments of the exposition shall have supervisionand direction of all exhibits or exhibitions during the fair.PROTESTS17. A ll protests must be made on an official protest form available at the livestock manager’sshow office. Protests must be made and signed by the person(s) protesting. The protestmust designate the exhibitor and animal involved and the specific rule or regulation thatthe exhibitor and/or animal is violating. Protests not requiring carcass inspection and/orlaboratory tests must be accompanied by a 100.00 cash deposit (which will be forfeited, ifprotest is not sustained) and submitted to the show manager before official placings of theclass involved are announced. Protests concerning unethical procedures, the basis of whichrequires inspection of hide, carcasses, and/or laboratory tests be accompanied by a 500.00cash deposit (which will be forfeited, if protest is not sustained) and subjected to the showmanager within one (1) hour after the end of the show involved.LIABILITY OF EXHIBITORS18. A LL property of every character entered for competition, display or other purpose, or beinganywhere in the fairgrounds, shall be subjected to the control of the fair management.19. I f the property owners, or others interested in the property, desire protection against loss,damage or injury from fire or from any other cause, they must make their own arrangementsand pay for any such insurance.CLAIMS FOR INJURY20. No claim for injury to any person or property shall ever be asserted, no suit instituted ormaintained against the Mississippi State Fair, its officers or their agents, by or on behalfof any persons, firm or corporation or their agents, representatives, servants or employeeshaving license or privilege to exhibit on the fair ground or occupy any space thereon.21. I f any damage, loss or injury to person or property shall be caused by reason of any neglector willful act of any person, firm or corporation, or their agents, representatives, servantsor employees having license or privilege to exhibit on said grounds or occupying spacethereon, the Mississippi State Fair shall in no manner be responsible therefore and in caseit be subjected to any expense or liability, all persons causing same are liable therefore andshall indemnify the same Mississippi State Fair.LIVESTOCK LIABILITY BILL22. WARNING: Under Mississippi law, an equine or livestock activity sponsor or an equineor livestock professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant inequine activities or livestock shows resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities orlivestock shows pursuant to this chapter.
