Dear Church Family,I hope this note finds you and your loved ones well. Giventhe circumstances with COVID-19, I don’t get to see most ofyou like in the past. But I speak with some of you, especiallythose who cannot come to Church at this point. Also, Icommunicate with the others by text, via social media, aswell as by email. Fear, as a result of what is going on, hasalienated some people from the community. So, I encourageyou to reach out to somebody this month. You can use what Icall “The Rule of Four.” It is my daily discipline to talk to fourpeople who are not my family members or friends.Harris UMCAttendanceJuly 1211July 1910July 2612August 210Total43Average weekly attendanceGiven to DateOffering 895.00705.00839.00405.00 2,844.0011 23,768.90Lake Park UMCAttendanceJuly 1225July 1934July 2631August 235Total32Average weekly attendanceGiven to DateOffering 4,495.002,443.033,359.001,450 11,747.0332 63,970.72Fear is not always a bad thing. It affects us negatively onlywhen we let it dictate how we should conduct ourselves inour everyday living. Also, fear has been a part of our humanexistence from the very beginning. While we have toovercome fear so that it does rule over us, we still have tounderstand that doing so does not mean choosing not to becareful and cautious any longer. Nor does it mean we have tolive into hiding either even though that may be what we needto do whenever necessary. With our Church opening upmore now, you can come to our “in-person” worship services.Together with the leadership at our Church, we make surethat everyone, who walks into the building, is safe. My prayeris that we, as a community of believers, continue to be apeople God uses to heal us all, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Being in community is soessential for our healing process, individual and corporate.Just as I ask God to heal us, in every aspect of who we are, before sharing my message every Sunday in Church, I alsosay the same prayer as often as I can during the week. This month, we continue our study about 7 attitudes that canhelp us overcome fear with focus on the last threethemes: gratitude, the beginners’ mind, and balance.

Fear sets us up for evil when we do not handle it the right way.Out of fear, we can experience anger, grief, hatred, and more. And, this pandemic has been such a great trigger of fear in usand society all over the world. Learn more about this series onfear on my blog, www.emmanuelnaweji.com or on our Churchwebsite, www.harrislakeparkumc.org.An exciting thing happening this month is confirmation Sunday, which was canceled last May due to the pandemic. But, I amthankful that on September 13, we will finally confirm ouryouth. It is also the Sunday when Sunday school starts. I can’twait to see our kids, youth, and adults get back to Church forspiritual growth and making more disciples. So, I encourage usto start praying for each one of them, our Sunday schoolteachers, and youth groups’ leaders. This month, we will also officially start live streaming our 10:30am worship service on Facebook and YouTube (Harris andLake Park United Methodist Church). My hope is that webecome able to radio broadcast soon so that we reach morepeople in our community with the gospel. Finally, remember these words from the Lord, “Do not let yourhearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me” (John14: 1). God would like us to believe in Him knowing that God isalways in control. His love for you does not change. Nothingand no one can alter God’s plans for you and your family. So,fear not!See you in worship at Church or on our social media if youcan’t make it to our in-person service!Pastor Emmanuel.Congratulations to MacyGunderson and Drew Planteenon their wedding on August 22.Macy’s parents are Gregg andMindy Gunderson.Grandparents are Bob andJeanine Gunderson.United Methodist Women No meeting until further notice 2020 Bazaar has been cancelledSunday School StartsSeptember 139:00 am at Lake Park10:15 am at Harris

Dear Lake Park Church family,The back to school bells rang a little differently this year. The masks arestill a very good idea. Social distancing has put a stop to giving a hug as agreeting. Human connections are Zoom and FaceTime. Politics is messy. We are not sure where all this is going. The church library is here to remindyou that there are things you can do something about. READ! By yourself. To a child. With your family. One all-important wordSometimes one word makes all the difference. In John 14:16, when Jesuspromises the disciples that God will send the Holy Spirit, he doesn’t say“the” Helper or “a” Helper but “another” Helper. For there to be“another” of something, we must already be familiar with a first of thatthing. Jesus has been, for the disciples, their first Helper. They already“know him for he dwells with [them]” (verse 17, ESV).When my infant son was to start full-time daycare, the transition wentquite smoothly. That’s because his “new” caregiver wasn’t new at all: Shewas Grandma! The sense that my son would be in the handsof another family member he already knew eased the handoff for Mamaand baby alike. Not all parents have access to that type of situation, but the caregivingarrangement Jesus provided his disciples is available to all. Even whenJesus is no longer physically with us, another who loves us just as much —another we already know and whose truth we’ve seen in Jesus — is here. We’re in good hands.—Heidi MannGary Taber (stroke)Rita ReimersRodney GrahamDave LindemanGarrett GoodellAllen Rowe (Parkinson’s)Ardyce Rueter (mother of Lori Sheeler & Scott Rueter)Cheryl Dake & familyGinny Verdoorn & family, loss of her husband, BillThose with mental health or any health concernsThe men and women in the armed service and their family
