HOUSE OF PRAYER FOR PRIESTS179Cardinal Manning House of Prayer for PriestsThe Cardinal Timothy Manning House of Prayer for Priestsopened in 1975 under the guidance and inspiration of CardinalTimothy Manning and Jesuit Father John McAnulty. It was theirvision that there be a special place exclusively for priests tonourish their spiritual lives and to pray for the people whomthey serve. The Immaculate Heart Sisters generously loaned a portion oftheir property, at the site of their motherhouse, to help facilitate this dream. In 1995, Cardinal Roger Mahony expanded and rededicated theHouse of Prayer to serve the large number of priests using thefacility. In honor of his predecessor, Cardinal Mahony officiallyrenamed the new facility the Cardinal Timothy Manning Houseof Prayer for Priests.Located in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, the Cardinal Timothy Manning House ofPrayer for Priests provides a spiritual oasis for priests with accommodations surroundedby lush greenery.Today, the House of Prayer offers retreats (individually directed, preached and private), spiritual direction, days of recollection, daily Sacrament of Reconciliation, as well as providing a placefor priests’ support groups to meet. The facility consists of threeprimary buildings: McAnulty Hall, the original house; Bethany, which houses the guest units; and Emmaus, the main building.Msgr. Jack Stoeger currently serves as Director, and Jesuit Father Christopher Cartwright is the Associate Director. The following Spiritual Directors serve one day a week: Father JimClarke (Monday, Eng/Sp), Jesuit Father José de Jesús Sanchez(Tuesday, Eng/Sp), Missionary of the Holy Spirit Father EugenioCárdenas (Wednesday, Eng/Sp), and Benedictine Father JosephBrennan (Thursday). For nearly 20 years the Order of St. Gregory the Great has committed to the Cardinal Timothy Manning House of Prayer forPriests, taking it on as its apostolate. Their gracious involvement and generosity in supporting the House of Prayer’s mission of reflection, renewal and direction continues to be an integral part of our ministry.Cardinal Timothy Manning House of Prayer for Priests3441 Waverly Dr, L.A. 90027-2526(323) 662-0092 FAX (323) 953-4802Email: houseofprayer@la-archdiocese.orgWeb: www.la-archdiocese.org/org/hopOne of three chapels on the property, the Celebration Chapel is the primarygathering place for prayer and Eucharist.Sit and pray with the Good Shepherdin our meditation garden. The 2018 Archdiocese of Los Angeles Catholic Directory
