Members toured the Universityof Nebraska Medical Center’s Fred and Pamela BuffettCancer Center in Omaha recently to see firsthand what theirfundraising efforts will continue to do.“I was amazed at how the Buffett Center is designed to allwork together for the patient. The doctors, scientists, andstaff are all right here meeting together to analyze a patient’scondition and to communicate the best treatment options,”Marlene Cox, Ball committee member said. “I was alsoimpressed with the places that were created within the Centerto give the patient and family the ability to enjoy seeing thestars or a beautiful garden from their confinement, rather it befrom a wheelchair or a bed.”Ball Co-Host Allison Sandman said, “It was the mosttouching tour and afternoon spent at the Buffett CancerCenter. We learned that every patient’s treatment is designedaround them and their cancer. No two patients are treated thesame.”The 2019 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska, June 7-8, will bein southwest Nebraska along the beautiful Frenchman Creeknear Enders Reservoir, west of Wauneta. Ninety percent ofall proceeds from the Ball will be given directly to the Fredand Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, which opened in Omahain June 2017 and has begun changing forever the way canceris diagnosed and treated by utilizing the most advancedbiomedical and technological tools available. The other 10percent of the proceeds stays in southwest Nebraska to benefitour medical services and organizations.Visit Health and Wellness TentAmong the many opportunities at the Ball, the Health andWellness Tent will feature education for Ball guests to learnmore from area hospitals.“Community Hospital, Chase County Hospital, theCallahan Cancer Center and Dundy County Hospital haveteamed up to sponsor the Health and Wellness Tent,”Sandman said. The Buffett Center will share researchPart of Hans A.Hansen’s daily ritual ofharnessing his horsesincluded doning aspecially fashioned pairof overalls too. Thehorse was extremelysensitive to biting flies, and was well trainedand accepting. Hewould lift one leg at atime, so the overallscould be slipped onand worn all day whileworking in the fields.Photo taken in the1920s, five miles southof Minden, Neb.
