Revelation Training ManualChapter 11Welcome1 IntroductionWelcome and Congratulations on your purchase. We hope that you will have as much fun andsuccess with this product as what we had in developing it. You will soon find yourself in acommanding position over your business. Revelation gives you vital company information at yourfingertips, without the Hugh bills normally associated with such a powerful product.Revelation was developed over the last 30 years, with the Layman in mind. We believe that a goodBusiness package should be powerful, but simple to use. You will experience Revelation as a Friendlyproduct that does not intimidate. Your Staff will pick up on the many available features very easily,getting your business to be up and running in no time.We did not compromise on quality and security though. Revelation was able to manage real timeprocessing very early in our development and did not need to fall back on batch accounting. Theadvantage of the real-time system is twofold. Firstly the figures Revelation produces are accurate tothe minute. The second, and more importantly, it does not leave the system open for fraud andabuse. Although many accounting packages have been written with the auditors in mind, we atRevelation believe it is you, the owner of this business that is key. For this reason, Revelation keeps atrail of all the transactions as well as time, date and user stamps on every single transaction.Documents like invoices cannot just be edited. Instead, Credit the Invoice and re-invoice.Revelation is also a very versatile program with many features available, either as a standard or anadd-on Product. This will include a powerful built-in POS system, warehousing, manufacturing;serialised tracking, online banking, a fully integrated Assets Register and many more (See ourproduct range for more information).We did not forget about the auditors though. Revelation has committed itself in giving eachRegistered Auditor and Accountant, a Revelation Package. From now on, you need only press abutton, in order to securely send your company data to your auditor. They in turn will then processall the journals required and then send the relevant journals back to you in an importable e-mail.Quick and Simple!!!Support and development has always been the key to a successful partnership at Revelation. Fromour Small Business Package upward, we now include a mandatory Service Level Agreement withevery product sold. This is a very small monthly fee that insures that your staff will always haveaccess to top quality support during office hours. We do NOT charge any additional fees or yearlylicensing fees. Unlike our competitors, we do not release a modified version every one or two yearsthat we then charge for, but rather have on-going development that all SLA clients will have freeaccess to via our daily updates button on the Super menu. This arrangement assures that yourcompany will not incur any unexpected expenses.Training is also available at any of our Training Centre. Revelation Training ManualChapter 12Welcome1.1 A Brief History of RevelationRevelation began life in 1980 as a product called the "Debtors Controller" running on a Commodore8032 computer with 32Kb of memory using dual floppy disks. It only catered for Debtors, but washailed as a breakthrough at the time because it processed all entries in a "real-time" mode ie:transactions were processed as they were entered unlike the trend at that time of "batchprocessing" entries which were "merged" into the existing data at a later stage involvingcomplicated procedures on the part of the user.In 1981 the package emerged as "Comacc", still running on the 8032 computer, but now comprisingintegrated Debtors, Creditors and Nominal Ledgers still operating in a "real-time" mode.In 1982, the first fully integrated version of the package called "Triacc" was introduced which nowadded integrated Stock and Invoicing modules to the Comacc concept. This was made possible byCommodore's introduction of the 8250 Dual Floppy drive with an astounding 1 megabyte capacityper drive. Further, using data compaction routines, it was possible to squeeze 3000 Debtors, 600Creditors, 1000 Nominal, 8000 Stock and 32000 Transaction records onto just TWO floppy disks!!Triacc proved to be very successful and saw some 3000 users operating it by the mid 80's.By then, the IBM PC was making its presence felt and a PC version of Triacc was introduced for useon Commodore's newly released PC compatibles. A sister product called Almanacc was also releasedshortly thereafter for use on other PC's. These 2 products also proved to be very successful scoringanother 2000 users.In 1988, the package was revamped to match current technology (colour was introduced) and waslaunched under the name "Revelation".Shortly thereafter, a greatly enhanced Multi User "Plus" version was released for use on Local AreaNetworks.Revelation “Pro” was launched in 1996 and was a complete re-write of the product from the groundup. Although still a Dos product, it provided windows-like features and could be operated with amouse and introduced the unique concept of a Supermenu for often-used functions.In 2002, the need for a fully-fledged Windows Version was realised when Revelation for Windowswas introduced. In 2010, our Current version saw the light of day, with some “out-of-this- world”features and looks, making it the most exciting product in its class.Ever!!!I for one cannot waitto see where we will be going next.Watch this space!!!2 Our ProductsRevelation was written with a wide range of clients and industries in mind. Currently Revelation isdoing duty on sites as large as Platinum Mines right up to small farm stalls. To cater for such a widerange, we have developed several packages to suit the needs of almost every thinkable businessenvironment. Although Revelation is an “Off-the-Shelf” product, we have always tried toaccommodate our clients with specially designed Custom Modules. Other featuresinclude multiple Delivery Addresses per customer, full account history availableon-line for up to 72 months, reprint old customer invoices from up to 72months ago, extensive data export facilities in all ledgers, comprehensive SalesRep Analysis, stock records can hold pictures of the actual stock items, up to 7Selling Prices per Stock item, all records (in all ledgers) have an unlimited length “Notes” field forcomments related to each record. Up to 9 separate sets of company accounts may be held. Achieveris a single-user product (non-networkable).2.1.5 Revelation UpStart (1 Terminal)UpStart is a fully integrated accounting package to get an uncomplicated businessoff the ground with the minimum cost, fuss and hassle. It includes Debtors,Creditors, General Ledger and Invoicing. Priced for the entry-level user, it willallow a small business with simple accounting functions to effectively control itsaccounting requirements. Features include full account history available on-linefor up to 72 months, reprint old customer invoices from up to 72 months ago, allrecords have an unlimited length “Notes” field for comments related to eachrecord. UpStart is a single-user, single company product (non-networkable).2.1.6Launchpad (Available Soon)When released, this package will cater for the developing markets that can hardly afford an ITSolution. This package will be made available to the industry free of charge. It will only be a steppingstone until you have found your feet. Although limited in functionality, this product will pack apowerful punch, allowing the user to create professional Invoices and the e-mailing them off to theclient. Please refer them toour Website for a free download.2.1.7 Workshop/Service ManagerThis is an add-on module designed for service and manufacturingcompanies that use a job card system track and control work in progress.Job cards can stay open until the job is completed and may be amended atany time. Once completed, a Job may be invoiced out. Up to 9 userdefinable fields may be added to job cards that are application specific. Forexample, in a vehicle service station, the fields could be labelled “Make”,“Model”, “Year”, “Odometer”, etc. Job Quotes can be produced and thenconverted into Job Cards. Job “Templates” may be created for standard jobs which can be importedinto job cards thus avoiding repetitive entry of the same data. Serial numbers of items being servicedcan be tracked for guarantee purposes, employee hours worked. The Workshop Manager operatesas an integrated Add-on module for the Achiever, Small Business and Enterprise Editions ofRevelation and all Job Cards it produ
