A LETTER FROMOUR PRESIDENTAND CEO TRANSITION AND TRANSFORMATION. This was the resoundingtheme for the past fiscal year at Renewed! In early 2017, the Renewed leadership unveiled Vision 2022, our six-yearstrategic campaign to advance the impact of Renewed throughoutthe state of Tennessee. This initiative provides a clear roadmap forthe organization’s growth and expansion – to achieve Awareness asthe “go-to” resource for eating disorders, Support to include programexpansion across the state, and Infrastructure to lay the groundworkfor the implementation of these goals. Our Thrive campaign was also launched at this time, and has alreadyraised more than 200,000 in pledges to date. This critical funding willhelp us build the infrastructure to serve more individuals, offer moresupport groups and therapeutic programs, and deepen our impact inthe Middle Tennessee community and beyond. As momentum of the campaign continues to build, it has been myhonor to serve as the new President and CEO of Renewed as of June2017. Since our official founding in 2002, Renewed has been a singularand vital resource to those impacted by eating disorders and theirfamily and friends who support them. I am truly grateful to lead thislife-changing organization as we move forward in bringing the vision ofThrive to life! There is much work to do and the need for our services is great. With1 in 10 Americans developing an eating disorder at some point in theirlife – chances are, all of us know someone who has been impacted bythis illness. And, in Davidson county alone, 1 in 5 are diagnosed witha mental illness with half of these cases including an eating disorder.Your support is the key ingredient to our success in meeting thegrowing need and helping us make a lasting, transformative impact onthe mental and physical health of ourcommunity. We are so very grateful to the manydonors, sponsors and partners whomake our work possible – includingoffering all our services free of charge. We look forward to building our futurewith you and turning a page in thisnew chapter of transformation andexpansion. Thank YOU for being such animportant part of our work and vision! With heartfelt gratitude,Deborah Sandvik, President and CEO 2000The average cost eatingdisorder residential treatmentper day, out-of-pocket759NUMBER OFINDIVIDUALSEDUCATEDon the recognition &intervention of eatingdisorders258%Number of collegeaged girls who feelPRESSUREDto be a certainweightThe average number oflectures medical studentsreceive during 4 years ofmedical school30MILLIONNumber of individualsaffected by EATINGDISORDERS in the us1 IN 10100%Number ofindividuals whohave an eatingdisorder & get helpNumber of currentparticipants thatreported they willcontinue to participatein Renewed’sprograms &services207Number of FREESUPPORT GROUPSOFFERED including arttherapy, music therapy& therapeutic yoga1.3MILLIONNumber ofteenage girls inthe US who haveANOREXIA1004Number of individualswho received apersonalized treatmentreferral or accessedresources throughRENEWED’SWEBSITE

BECAUSEOF YOU.“Because of you, I’ve been able to attend PaintED where I’m able toexpress myself through watercolors, collaging, altering books, and somany other mediums. I’m able to put onto paper the things I struggleto say and am able to expand my support system by connecting withother people who understand what it’s like to struggle with an eatingdisorder and body image issues.” –Michelle, PaintED participant“Vocalizing the ups and downs of my recovery to other people who‘get it’ has been validating, reassuring and calming in so many ways. Ialways feel both relieved and encouraged after group sessions.”–CO-ED participant“We are fortunate to have a family support group for eating disordershere in Nashville. Families Supporting Families provides a warm, inviting, and supportive environment to assist family membersdealing with their loved one’s illness. My husband and I have attendedfor over 7 years now and find it to be a place of comfort, caringand sharing which provides insight for a disease that can be sooverwhelming.” –Sue, Families Supporting Families participant“Becauseof RenewedI breathedeeply, let goof worries andam a part ofa pant“I’ve spent decades suppressing my feelings and isolating myself. Theisolation has fueled my eating disorder. Renewed has helped me tostart to feel some of my feelings as well as start to build some saferelationships I wouldn’t have otherwise.”–Anonymous PaintED participant“I’ve learned that having support from other people who are goingthrough the same thing is vital to my recovery. Eating disorders growin isolation, so connecting with others who are on the same journeyto recovery has been an eye-opening experience. I’ve realized that Iam not alone.” –ConnectED participant“Please know that the time and effort y’all put intoRenewed groups IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Thank you! Ifeel like I’m coming back into myself again! I realize nowthat I need to be connected to recovery in some way that isoutside of myself. I need to connect to others in recovery. Isee that now.” –ConnectED participant“Through participation in Renewed’screative programs, I’ve learned to getout of my head space and let the creativeside of my brain express what is reallygoing on inside to begin to heal.”–Renewed program participant“Slowly but surely, my discussions on that couch at Renewed led to a new outlook on truth and community,on what it means to share your story and how it can empower others in their own journey.”–Kristin Finch, Renewed volunteer
