General Informationentries need to be corrected within seven days and requiresthe completion of a time adjustment slip with an instructor’ssignature of approval. Tardiness, absences and any otherinterruptions in training will have a significant impact onstudent achievement and success. Any student absentduring the first week of a new class start may be movedback to the next class start.ACCESS TO FACILITIES (HOURS SUBJECT TO CHANGE)The school is open during the following hours:Monday - Thursday9:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.Friday and Saturday9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.The offices are open during the following hours:Monday8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.Tuesday — Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.Any cosmetology program student missing more than 24hours during basic training may be withdrawn and may beconsidered for re-enrollment at the next class start date.Friday8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.(Note: Valley Creek Mall hours: 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.)Any esthiology program student missing more than 14 hoursduring the first four weeks may be withdrawn and may beconsidered for re-enrollment at the next class start.ALUMNIRegular input from recent graduates assists MinnesotaSchool of Cosmetology to evaluate its programs, personneland establish measures that improve outcomes. Alumni ofMinnesota School of Cosmetology are encouraged to shareinformation regarding employment opportunities and torefer prospective students to the school. Alumni arewelcome to use the resources of the career servicesdepartment at any time. Alumni of Minnesota School ofCosmetology are encouraged to come back to receivediscounts on our services and retail products.Any student who has 14 consecutive calendar days ofabsences will be administratively withdrawn from school (seeBuyer’s Right to Cancel section in the school catalog).If a student has a medical condition that prevents him/herfrom performing services or could potentially cause harm tooneself or another, a medical clearance to return to schoolfrom the doctor will be required to actively participate inhands-on activities and perform services. The student mayobserve and receive course instruction during this time.ANNOUNCEMENTSAll college announcements and notices are made throughthe school’s student portal or via student email. It isimperative that students check their Minnesota School ofCosmetology email account daily.Attendance is evaluated for all students in the first week ofeach month in order to check for students below 70 percentattendance. Students with less than 70 percent attendancemay be expelled at any time; regardless if the student is ata SAP evaluation point or not.ATTENDANCEIn order to help prepare students for careers in the salonindustry, Minnesota School of Cosmetology will operate in aprofessional salon environment. By law, Minnesota Schoolof Cosmetology must keep track of the training hours foreach student preparing for his/her license. All studentsare expected to be in attendance for the time periodsspecified in their signed enrollment agreement. Studentsare expected to notify the school via phone of any absenceor tardiness at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduledstart time. The school follows a no-call, no-show policy.If a student does not call and does not attend class, aschool staff/faculty member will meet with the studentregarding conduct and the school’s policy.It is the student’s responsibility to review their time foraccuracy. Any adjustments to the student’s time clockMinnesota law prohibits a student from attending school formore than ten hours in one day. Approval will be based onthe following: space availability and appropriate studentto-teacher ratios. All missed or failed exams due to absenceor tardiness must be made up within a two-week period. Afailed exam may be retaken once and the highest score thatcan be achieved on a retake is 75 percent.Any student who is present for 5.5 hours or more in a day isrequired to take a 30-minute lunch break. Any student whoattends class is eligible for a 15-minute break. Any student whois present for less than 5.5 hours in a day is eligible for one 15minute break.4

Attendance Tracking SystemCAMPUS SAFETY & SECURITY REPORTCourseKey is the modality used for attendance recordingfor all students, effective January 1, 2019.Visit the Minnesota School of Cosmetology’s website athttps://www.msccollege.edu/consumer-information/ for theCampus Safety and Security Reports for each individualcampus. Topics include, but not limited to, reporting a crime;emergency response, notifications and evacuationprocedures; security procedures and crime prevention; drugsand alcohol policy and prevention; violence, sexual assault,stalking, and registered sex offender information, policy andprevention programs; FERPA, campus crime statistics; andcrime categories and definitions.Cosmetology, Instructor, and Esthiology ProgramsThe Minnesota State Board of Cosmetology requires thatall student hours are recorded, on a daily and monthlybasis, and accurately identifies actual attendance hoursand lunch breaks. STARS, student information system,retains the student attendance records.Students are required by the Minnesota State Board ofCosmetology to maintain a daily record of hours andnature of training, designating theory or practicalexperience.The record must be confirmed by theinstructor who supervised the training and confirmed bythe student. A summary of hours for the month must bemaintained for each student and signed by the designatedschool manager.CHANGE OF ADDRESSAll address and telephone number changes must bereported to the financial aid department.CHILDRENChildren of students are welcome to the school if they arehere for appointments on the clinic floor. If the child is herewhile the student is clocked in, the child will need to beaccompanied by another adult. This is an educationalenvironment where children might be in harm’s way andmay alter the focus of the student’s education.Attendance records and time sheets are the property ofthe school and may not be removed from school premises.If the monthly record is removed from the school or is notlegible it is considered invalid.CLINIC FLOORAll services performed on the clinic floor (on a client,Minnesota School of Cosmetology staff member, fellowstudent, etc.) are required by state regulations to have aconsultation by an instructor before the service, checkedduring the service, and upon completion of the servicebefore the client leaves the clinic area. As this is regulatedby the State of Minnesota, students failing to have serviceschecked will receive a written notice.All ProgramsAttendance is monitored for all class sessions and isrecorded as actual time attended by the instructor withinCourseKey, our computerized attendance system, andretained in STARS, our student information system. Anytime missed from a scheduled class is considered timeabsent. All students scheduled for a lunch break arerequired to clock or punch in/out for the time taken. Thelunch break time is at the discretion of the instructors,according to each student’s schedule.In order to receive credit for their hours, all students areresponsible for clocking or punching in, at or before, thebeginning of their shifts, out/in for lunch breaks, and outat the end of their shift to receive full credit for theirscheduled and attended hours. All services or work performed by a student must besupervised and evaluated by an instructor within theeducational process. Students who are assigned to the clinic floor and arenot performing on clients are required to work onquotas or other assigned projects. Cosmetology & Esthiology: A student is to stay with ornear the client during a chemical service. If anemergency occurs and you need to leave your client,notify your clinic floor instructor immediately so anotherstudent may be assigned to take over the client andcontinue with the service in progress. Students are not to discuss religion, politics, sex, andother controversial topics with clients or fellow studentswhile on campus. These sensitive subjects are notconsidered professional work environment topics. Any student foundcopying software other than for backup purposes is subject toexpulsion from Minnesota School of Cosmetology. Additionally,any student who gives software to any other person is alsosubject to expulsion.Students on the clinic floor will have the opportunity towork on a variety of different hair, skin, body and nailtypes. Students are encouraged to use this opportunityto enhance their skills and customer service level byaccepting all clients assigned to them. Students whorefuse a client or assigned service may be required toclock out for the day.Consequences of Fair Use Law ViolationsIllegal duplication of computer software may constitutecriminal copyright infringement, which is punishable by a fineof up to 250,000 and imprisonment for up to five years.Students on the clinic floor are striving to perfect thequality of their performance and improve the time ittakes to complete the service. A student falling behindon the timing of performing a service must notify theinstructor. Adjustments by the instructor may be madeto ensure efficient service delivery for the benefit ofthe client. Any student challenged with efficientservice delivery is expected to improve this skill tobetter prepare for certification and employment.Federal civil penalties allow the recovery of actual damagesbased upon the number of copies produced or statutorydamages ranging up to 100,000 for willful copyrightinfringement. If you know of any illegal copying of softwarewithin Minnesota School of Cosmetology, please contact thecampus director immediately.All kit items not in use are to be stored inside thestudents’ locker or clinic floor station. Any equipmentleft out at the end of the day/evening will be depositedin the lost and found.What are the Details of Fair Use at MSC?Minnesota School of Cosmetology has developed standardsof behavior when using computing equipment andnetworks. In general, it asks that you obey the law and beconsiderate of others. Specifically, with regard to MinnesotaSchool of Cosmetology computing facilities, you may not:The lobby is used for receiving clients who haveappointments for services. Students are asked to stayon the clinic floor until the front desk notifies them ofa client arrival. At that time, the student may enter thelobby area to greet and guide the client to the clinicfloor.CLOSINGIn the event of a closing due to weather or otheremergency, an announcement will be made on televisionstation KARE CHANNEL 11 and on the campus Facebookpage, the school’s voicemail greeting will be changed toreflect the closing, or students can opt into receiving textmessages from the school. All other scheduled closings (inservices and holidays) are located in the calendar sectionof the school catalog. If the school is closed due to badweather, the day will be added to the student’s contractualend date if the student was scheduled to be in school thatday. All adjustments will be made at one time at the endof the student’s program.COMPUTER SOFTWARE FAIR USEUse or copying of any software product in violation of theapplicable license agreement is strictly prohibited byMinnesota School of Cosmetology. All computers purchasedand used by Minnesota School of Cosmetology are supplied6 Enter, without authorization, into another user’s networkaccount or file space to use, read, transfer, or changecontents therein for any purpose.1 Use another individual’s network account or password. Grant another individual access to your networkaccount.2 Use Minnesota School of Cosmetology computingfacilities to interfere with the work of other students. Use Minnesota School of Cosmetology computingfacilities to send obscene, abusive, derogatory, orharassing messages. Use Minnesota School of Cosmetology computingfacilities to display, transmit, distribute or make availableinformation that expresses or implies discrimination oran intention to discriminate. Use Minnesota School of Cosmetology computingfacilities to interfere with the normal operation ofcompany’s computing facilities, including such things asflooding the network with messages, sendingcommercial solicitations, or sending chain or pyramidletters.
