An Environment of ExcellenceBecause of the tremendous communitysupport for Monadnock CommunityHospital’s recent building campaign, theHospital celebrated the opening of the SarahHogate Bacon Emergency Services Departmentin early Winter 2011. This expansion wasfunded in part by the 10 million capitalcampaign completed in 2010. The new spacemore than doubles the size of the ED, upfrom 3,500 to 8,000 square feet. With 13,000visits annually, the ED is one of the busiestdepartments in the Hospital. The expanded space provides patientsa greater level of privacy with ninerooms and eleven beds. Each room is“universal” — able to serve patientsregardless of illness or trauma. Two of the new rooms are reacheddirectly by an ambulance-onlyentrance. Walk-in patients use aseparate entrance, and can be triagedwithout waiting to register. The “U” shape of the new ED improves sightlines for nurses to view all patients. There iseven a new, separate decontamination areato handle people affected by biohazards orindustrial contaminants.“With the community need growing,we expect an increase to 14,000 or morepatients annually,” says Dr. Craig Lauer,Emergency Department Medical Director.“We are ready and will be able to offer thevery best in professional emergency care.”accountant, farmer, surgeon, dance instructor, restaurant owner, shop keeper, logger, engineer, clinician, real estate agent, primaryJohn PeardPeople’s United BankMr. and Mrs. Albert E. The Healing and the Arts Committee at Monadnock CommunityHospital has a goal of creating an environment of healingthrough art. Studies have shown that soothing, calming andbeautiful pieces of art have a distinctly positive effect on howquickly people heal. The Maternity Unit has a rotating gallery ofartists that provides laboring Moms something soothing to lookat as they walk the halls. The Wellness Center is home to manycreative initiatives. Through art we are forming a stronger connectionto our local community as we are fortunate to have many talented artists inthe Monadnock Region. At MCH we have the opportunity to provide an outletfor their work, while providing a beautiful environment for patients andvisitors alike.architect, sales personnel, acupuncturist, artist, fireman, surveyor, emergency medical technician, policeman, metallurgist,Mr. and Mrs. David R.
