2Purpose: Solano African American/BlackCommunity Resources GuideSolano County is one of the top diverse counties in California. Approximately 14 percentof the County’s population identify as Black or African American1. Community data hasindicated that the African American or Black community is experiencing disparate healthand socio-economic outcomes compared to other local communities. For example, according to the California Department of Education, African American or Black k-12students have the highest suspension rate (13.8%); nearly 2.4 times the County rate, and three times the rate of white students.2 Solano County Health & Social Services(H&SS) has recently convened a series of staff caucuses to discuss strategies to addressdisparate health and socioeconomic outcomes that are occurring in the local AfricanAmerican community. The H&SS African American/Black Caucus has generated thisguide to increase access to culturally-specific community-based programs and serviceswith the intent to provide additional protective factors in the Black community; to closethe gaps of disparate outcomes experienced by Solano African Americans.1United States Census: 2013-2017 American Community Survey Five Year Estimates, retrieved on February 27, ices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml?pid ACS 17 5YR DP05&prodType table2 California Department of Education: 2017-2018 Suspension Rate Solano Report, retrieved on February 26, uspRate.aspx?year 2017-18&agglevel County&cds 48
