WELCOMEto theCELEBRATION of CHAMPIONSMISSIONSTATEMENTAs we celebrate the 2020-2021 state tournament seasons, I extend anenthusiastic welcome, on behalf of our entire Board of Directors, to eachtournament attendee, whether in person or virtually. It is exciting to return to thetradition of celebrating students through competition at the highest level.Our Championship Celebrations spotlight students who participate in MSHSLathletics and fine arts and choose to extend their day representing their schooland community. Your positive support of the commitment of these students isvalidated in your attendance at this event. While each tournament may lookdifferent than it has in the past, the excitement and validation that are trademarksof our tournaments remain.The MSHSL recognizes the value of education-based activities. These activitiesare integral to each member school and research continues to demonstrate themany benefits of participation. Our students in athletics and fine arts activitieshave higher grade point averages, miss less school, and have the potential forgreater success beyond high school than their classmates. Each competitionprovides the opportunity for students to develop teamwork skills, challenge theirabilities, compete with integrity, and learn together.“Education and Leadership for a Lifetime” is the slogan of the Minnesota StateHigh School League. This purpose is highlighted in the many acts ofsportsmanship found throughout these competitions. During the tournament, weencourage you to continue to recognize and positively support these actions.While each high school season culminates in a state tournament or festival, webelieve every game, contest, or performance throughout the year has been acelebration of champions.
