The Spiritual CaravanNewsletter of the Ascended Master Teaching FoundationP.O. Box 466, Mt. Shasta, CA 96067www.ascendedmaster.orgNovember 2013HOW THE SACRED SITE ON MT. SHASTA, THE BIRTHPLACE OF BOTHTHE “I AM” ACTIVITY AND THE AMTF, WAS SAVED FROM DEVELOPMENTA Historical Record compiled by Werner SchroederThe bitter fight to preserve Panther Meadows and the surrounding area from development started prior to 1990when Carl Martin, a former employee of the US Forest service, received from his former employer a permit todevelop Panther Meadow and the surrounding area into a ski-resort. The proposed development called forpermanent housing of 5000 people plus ski-lifts and a golf course.Under the leadership of Michelle Berditschevsky, a coalition was formed, entitled “Save Mt. Shasta” consisting ofthe Elders of several American-Indian tribes such as Charles Thom Sr. Medicine Man of the Karuk Tribe, FlorenceJones, as well as the Sierra Club, the AMTF and other individuals, such as an attorney with the name of Miller, who worked on pro bono basis. The uniqueness of Mt. Shasta was researched and as a result the study entitled “A review of Non-AmericanLiterature” conducted by the coalition concluded that Mt. Shasta as was mentioned as a special place in 70 books.I volunteered the services of the AMTF and made an appeal to the membership. Some members responded, included Mickey Cox Here is a copy of two letters written to representatives of the US Forest Service, writtenmany years ago. Prior to writing these letters I had contacted a local representative of the “I AM Activity”.However, there was no cooperation; I was refused. Therefore the AMTF was the only religious group representedin the “Save Mt. Shasta” coalition. Here is a copy of my appeal to the membership.Special Bulletin, Immediate Attention RequestedDear Member of El Morya’s Spiritual Caravan,SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF MT. SHASTA As you may know, Mt. Shasta is a focus of the belovedAscended Master Saint Germain and the Brotherhood of Mt. Shasta. Saint Germain used that focus to bring aboutthe historic meeting with Mr. Ballard in August of 1930. This meeting is described in the book Unveiled Mysteriesand the information released to Mr. Ballard forms the beginning of New Age Teaching. The knowledge of the IAM Presence was given, for the first time, outside an Ascended Master Retreat. The data released in this bookformed the basis for the founding of the “I AM Activity” and later, that of other spiritual groups. While theAscended Master Teaching Foundation focuses mainly on the original teaching of the Bridge, which started in1952, we include the book Unveiled Mysteries in our published literature because of its uniqueness. The “Sacred Site” on Mt. Shasta is also very important for two other reasons, namely, David Lloyd ascended fromhere and during transmission flame services, the transmitted flame of the qualified energy from the open retreatis carried via the island of Suva towards this mountain. From this location spiritual currents are amplified anddivided in a northerly, easterly and southerly direction.DEVELOPERS PROPOSAL About 10 years ago, a developer with the name of Carl Martin asked for a usepermit to built a huge development on Mt. Shasta. Simply put, if this proposal would ever come to fruition, the1

spiritual feeling for Mt. Shasta, as we know it, would cease to exist. The plan calls for a ski-developmentincluding many lifts, parking lots, condominium villages, hotels, permanent housing for 5,000 people, gondolas, agolf course, an RV Park and would handle an anticipated 200,000 gallons of waste water per day. Subsequently, the developer reduced the size of his development, but the original proposal is still a future possibility and thedeveloper has an option for necessary land until 1996. Since that time, many meetings were held and extensiveenvironmental reports were filed.RECOMMENDATION BY US FOREST SERVICE This agency recommended approval of the development, subject to exclusion of Panther Meadows (the site most important to AMTF and the Indian tribes) and the areaabove 8,000 ft. (which is above Panther Meadows and treeless but of great spiritual importance to the Indiantribes located next to Mt. Shasta). Under this proposal, development could occur directly adjacent to PantherMeadows.RECOMMENDATION BY THE KEEPER, NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES, WASHINGTON,D.C In a decision very surprising to many, including local jurisdictions, the Keeper determined, based on datasubmitted by local Indian Tribes, that Mt. Shasta, commencing from the 4,000 ft level (which includes the entiremountain), is eligible for listing as a historical district.REACTION BY LOCAL MERCHANTS AND REAL ESTATE INTERESTS Those that stand to obtain financialgain from major development of the mountain were able to gain the support of local elected officials and somepoliticians, such as Congressman Herger. As a result of this well organized opposition, enough political pressurewas applied to have the decision by the Keeper made subject to review. All interested parties have until Oct. 26to comment. This now is a new ballgame. Not only will the decision be based on existing facts, but to someextent, numbers are also a consideration.COALITION FORMED BY THOSE WHO APPROVE OF THE HISTORICAL DESIGNATION Indian Tribesand local citizens have formed teams to counteract the desires of those who are primarily motivated from aviewpoint of financial gain. As part of the effort of the Spiritual Caravan, we are asking everyone to send a letterto the “Keeper,” outlining why we support the sanctity of Mount Shasta. A sample letter is enclosed. You maywrite your own letter, but please keep in mind, your letter should reach Washington by October 26. If you decideto write your own letter, kindly use the keywords used in the sample letter and do not use the word, “religion.”The “I AM Activity” was invited to join this effort, but declined, so we are doing this on our own.I AM THE VICTORY OF THE PRESERVATION OF MT. SHASTA AS A SACRED SITE.Werner Schroeder 2

October 15, 1994Keeper, National RegisterOf Historic PlacesNational Park ServiceP.O. Box 37127Washington, DC-20013-7127Dear Sir:As a member of the Ascended Master Teaching Foundation (AMTF), I should like to express my wholeheartedsupport for the historical designation of Mt. Shasta., as currently proposed by the “Keeper.”From a historical and traditional point of view, the teachings of the AMTF can be traced to an event of exceptionalimportance. This occurred in August of 1930, when Guy W. Ballard received some spiritual instructions on Mt.Shasta, in a miraculous way. This unique event has been chronicled in the books Unveiled Mysteries and Man, HisOrigin, History and Destiny. As part of these instructions, many items of great spiritual significance, such as the relationship of man and hishigher self were given for the first time and in clear, precise terms. Many consider this event as the beginning ofthe teaching for a New Age. I know of at least one other organization who acknowledges the meeting betweenMr. Ballard as a real, tangible event and which organization’s traditional roots are based on Mr. Ballard’sexperiences on Mount Shasta in 1930. Based on our teaching, I consider the entirety of Mount Shasta as thespiritual focus of a Great Divine Being. Each time the AMTF has a conference in Mount Shasta, the group visits the mountain to commemorate thissacred event of the meeting of Mr. Ballard with this Spiritual Being. Please preserve the uniqueness of Mount Shasta as a site sacred to thousands.Sincerely, (WS)I wrote many similar letters to the US Forest Service. In these letters I stressed that the Environmental ImpactStatement, as prepared by the Forest Service, did not address the various concerns of citizens voiced throughletters and at a public hearing. When I arrived at one public hearing I noticed that it was conducted by representatives of the Chamber ofCommerce as well as local realtors and developers. There was a list of speakers who wished to be heard andanyone who looked like an American Indian was erased from the list. I was allowed to speak but as soon as itbecame apparent that I was speaking against the proposal to establish a new ski-area on MT. Shasta, someonetried to wrestle the microphone from me. I found myself involved in a physical fight, lasting about one minute, forcontrol of the microphone. I prevailed. I firmly believed at that time, if I had to undergo a fist fight for thepreservation of my beloved Panther Meadow, a place I had visited with Annette dozens of times, and the placewhere nearby I received the message of an Ascended Master (explained during the 2011 AMTF Conference) ifthere had to be a fist fight, it was well worth the effort. This fight for control of the microphone made majorheadlines and next day it was shown publicly over the TV station in Redding. After a confrontation lasting many years, the US Forest service relented. On July 1998 a directive was issuedwhich in effect blocked the ski-area from being developed and which revoked the permit issued to Carl Martin.Panther Meadows and the area of Mt. Shasta above 8000 ft. were judged eligible to be included in the nationalregister of historic places. The battle was won by ordinary citizens who bounded together in a spirit ofdetermination, teamwork and ACTION to preserve this place of natural beauty to future generations. In my view3

the main credit for preventing a major development on Mt. Shasta belongs to the Elders of several Indian tribesand to Michelle Berditschevsky. Joyce Ballard and Darlene Timmons have left the AMTF. We thank them for 3 years of dedicated work, sendingout the AMTF-Publications and keeping financial and administration records, including service to the AMTFmembership. They also helped sending out the AMTF-publications to Amazon.com. and in sending out thisnewsletter. We wish them well. Please note that from now on all AMTF-Publications with the exceptions noted below will be sent by Amazon.comExceptions: Pictures of Ascended Masters, the Chart of the I AM Presence, all CD’s, Manual for the TFS, Index ofAMTF-Publications. He wassurrounded by his family at Madrone Hospice in Yreka, California.Northern California Native American Karuk Medicine Man and Ceremonial Leader Charles “Charlie” Thom was bornin Fort Jones, near Yreka, California on April 4, 1928. Orphaned as a young child he was raised in the traditional4

ways by the Elders of his tribe. Charlie was instrumental in getting the Karuk tribe recognized by the USGovernment. Most of his life being a logger, he taught Native Studies at Humboldt University during the late 1970’s. Red Hawkenjoyed gathering with people from all over the world to share his culture, traditions, and values. Charlie was avery spiritual person and a great teacher of the Karuk traditions and language. One of his greatest joys washiking into the wilderness. In the late 1970’s Charlie opened his sacred sweat lodge ceremonies door to all people, attracting a wide diversityof people from various cultures, religions and walks of life. Since those early days, thousands of people haveparticipated in Charlie’s ceremonies. Few people know about his efforts in preservation and protection of sacredsites, such as Panther Meadows. It was Charles Thom who confirmed to me (Werner) the exact location of what became later known to me thesacred spot where Mr. Ballard and Saint Germain first met in August 1930, as detailed in the book “UnveiledMysteries.” I still remember this incident as if it happened yesterday. As revealed at the 2011 AMTF conference, in 1977 I had come to Mt. Shasta, to find this sacred location. Thebook “Unveiled Mysteries” indicated that there was a spring nearby, but gave no further details. After campingovernight on the mountain I found a spring with a small rivolet of water flowing downstream. Following the creekI eventually came to an area that proved promising as a likely spot for the historic meeting that happened in1930, but I was not sure. Within days somehow!? I was contacted by Charles Thom. When I told him about mydiscovery of the spring he said, “Yes this is a very special space but I will direct you to a much more sacred place,if you care to follow my direction.” Next day, going again up the mountain and following his direction, I found myconfirmation of the exact location of Mr. Ballard’s meeting with Saint Germain! Did Charles Thom know about thatmeeting? I found the answer to this question just 2 months ago.Tina Bartlett, who on a part-time basis was a care-giver to both Charles and is now to Annette Schroeder, askedCharles that very question. Charles replied he did not know about Mr. Ballard. He told Tina that one day hemeditated in the area of Panther Meadow and “Spirit” showed him that very place where Charles would find thewood for a special drum, to be used in the future at all of his ceremonies. Ever since that time Charles andmembers of his tribe considered this place as very special and every year honored it in special ceremonies.Attendees of the 2011 AMTF Conference know the rest of my story of the “Sacred Spot” on Mt. Shasta. This isthe very place where an Ascended Master told me:”Werner you must write a book on the unrecorded history ofmankind.” I obeyed that command, it took many years to write this book. This became also the birthplace of theAMTF. It is here that I wrote portions of the Foreword of the book “Man, His Origin, History and Destiny.”Farewell, Brother Charlie, thank you for helping preserve Panther Meadows. Thank you for being an asset to thehuman race. Thank you for combining ceremonial service with active works.5

Excerpts from dictation given December 28, 1952 by Maha Chohan, Bulletin 1, p72-74The full dictation can also be found at www.ascendedmaster.org under Important Dates. The glorious ceremony of purification and merciful forgiveness for the misuse of energy and light during thetwelve-month period that is passing into eternity, begins today in the heart of the great Rocky Mountain Retreat. There are no words to describe the compassion of that forgiving love of the Cosmic Christ into which thesouls of every lifestream upon the planet are consciously drawn, that their karma might be lessened, and thatthey may step forth into the pulsation of the New Year with a new opportunity to find mercy and, through mercy, peace. The Master Saint Germain, at the moment of the invocation, CHARGES into the atmosphere directly in frontof the altar (before which he stands) a FLASH OF FLAME from his heart, head, and hand. This becomes the initialimpulse for the Flame of Mercy, through which the mankind of Earth will pass. The Goddess of Justice, as “spokesman” for the Lords of Karma, then begins to call the roll of mankind. Astheir names are called, they pass through the archway of violets up onto this pathway of purple flame, accompanied by their sponsors (if they are conscious chelas) and by their guardian angels (if they are among themasses). As each one stands for a moment in the very heart of the lotus-flame, the MOTIVE which prompted thecreation of the karma for the past year is examined and as much of that karma is wiped away as the motivewithin the heart would allow.Every lifestream who has had even one minute of incarnation during the closing twelve-month cycle is giventhis opportunity for purification and soul-cleansing.The mass of the people is passed through speedily, but the students of light receive individual attention andassistance. May each and every one of you experience in your FEELINGS the uplifting grace and the joyousrelease which the participation in this exquisite ceremony of compassion and mercy imparts.7
