Spring 201821st Annual Putnam County Hospice BenefitRun for the RosesThe 21st Annual Hospice Benefit was held on Saturday,February 17, 2018 at the Ottawa Knights of Columbus Hall.“Run for the Roses” was the theme for the Kentucky Derby styleevent again this year! The evening began with event registration and social hour from5:00-6:00pm, with a wedding style dinner catered by Henry’sRestaurant immediately following. The live auction and horseracing began at 7:00pm. Aaron Siefker auctioned off 15 itemson the live auction. Ten pre-recorded horse races got thecrowd of over 500 attendees excited and cheering for theirfavorite horse. One of the items up for bid was the infamous “Hearts ofHospice” pie. The pie was baked and donated by an employee,Laura Buckland, and was sold for 1,500.00. The auction itemto bring in the highest bid of 3,800 was The Ultimate WineTable Package. In addition to the live auction and horse racing, guests could bidon silent auction items and buy raffle tickets in hopes of winningone of the many donated items. A popular part of the nightagain this year was the photo booth, where many guestsstopped to capture a picture. And the night also featured acostume contest, with Don Croy winning “Best Dressed Male”and Sharon Meyer winning “Best Dressed Female”. LouSchaublin and Dave Deters won “Best Dressed Couple”.Jeff Loehrke received the 2018 Putnam County Hospice Personof the Year Award. He was honored for emceeing the event forall 21 years. The fundraiser is held annually to assist with the costsassociated with hospice care. Often times the reimbursementreceived is not enough to cover the costs of care provided tothe patient. Medications and durable medical equipment thatare so important in helping patients with comfort during their lastdays can cost more than what is reimbursed. Fundraising alsocovers the 13-month Bereavement Program that followsfamilies through their grief and supports them after the loss of aloved one, since this receives no reimbursement.Putnam County Hospice would like to thank everyone whodonated their time and effort to make the night enjoyable andsuccessful. The night would not be possible without all whoattend as well as all the individuals, families, and businesseswho make monetary donations or donate raffle and auctionitems. Mark your calendars for next year’s event, which isslated for February 16, 2019.
