St. Mary Immaculate Parish School integrates technology into the curriculum enhancingthe learning culture of our school. The purpose of the 1:1 technology use is to fulfill thegoal of academic excellence by engaging the learner through creativity, communication,and mobile learning.The use of technology is a privilege that carries responsibility and behavioral expectationsconsistent with all school rules and policies. It is understood that members of St. MaryImmaculate Parish School will use computing devices and the school network in aresponsible, ethical, and legal manner at all times.St. Mary Immaculate Parish School retains the sole right of possession of the 1:1technology device and related equipment. The device will be issued to students accordingto the guidelines set forth in this document and the policies of the Diocese of JolietI. Receiving & Check-inA. The device will be distributed at the beginning of each school year after the TechnologyFee and a minimum of the first installment has been paid.B. Students will return their device during the last full week of school.C. Parents and students must read and sign the Diocesan Acceptable Use Policy, the SMIRules in this document, and School Handbook.D. Students are required to read and sign the “One to One Device Pledge” before the devicewill be issued.E. Each device will contain a serial number. It will also display the student name, schoolname, and identification number on the cover of the device.F. Students who transfer, withdraw, are suspended or expelled, or terminate enrollment fromSt. Mary Immaculate Parish School for any other reason during the school year, mustsurrender their device on the date of termination or during the stated period.G. In case of theft, the family must file a police report and notify the school. Once the policereport is available to the school and the family pays for the replacement cost, the studentwill be issued another device.H. Failure to return the device to St. Mary Immaculate Parish School will result in a theftreport being filed with the Local Police Department and the student/parent will pay thereplacement cost of it.I. Students must return the device and accessories in satisfactory condition. It will bedetermined by the administration when a fee will be applied to repair or replacementdamages.J. In cases of abuse, neglect, or intentional damage, the student will be charged a fee for anyneeded repairs not to exceed the replacement cost.K. All St. Mary Immaculate Parish School DakTech PlaidLet devices have a limitedwarranty:1. A three-year accidental warranty2. A three year product warranty.

3. A one-time free replacement of the screen is covered within 36 month agreement.If the screen is damaged beyond the agreement the cost of replacement by thechild’s parents is in the amount of 225.00.4. One “Accidental Damage” is fully covered under the warranty during the threeyear leasing period.5. Any claims made against the “Accidental Protection Plan” will be handled by theSt. Mary Immaculate Parish.6. A copy of the warranty and the accidental plan will be distributed to parents priorto the distribution of the devices. For more information on the onII. Proper CareA. The devices are the property of our school and all users will follow the procedures of the“Acceptable Use Policies” and “SMI School Handbook”.B. Liquids, moisture, and foods should never be near the device as these can damage it.C. No cleansers of any type can be used to clean the screenD. The device, cover, and accessories must remain free of any writing, drawing stickers, orlabelsE. Skins, stickers, decals, etc may not be used to personalize the device.III. Strictly ProhibitedA. Leaving the device in an unsupervised area. This includes leaving it in the schoolbuilding at the end of the school day. There is no supervision outside of the school dayfor it to be left behind in the school building.B. Changing settings without school approvalC. The storing of any personal photo, video, or audio. Students may only take picturesand/or videos when directed by the teachers or administrators for school projects.D. Bypassing or attempting to bypass the school web filterE. Use of technology in locker rooms, dressing rooms, or bathrooms per state lawF. Any action that violates existing policy or public lawG. Attempting to “jailbreak” (that is, attempting to alter the device’s operating system inorder to run additional, unauthorized applications)H. Defacing the serial number or device in any wayI. Deleting history (if done, automatically places student on Disciplinary Action)J. Downloading any software or any media not approved by St. Mary Immaculate ParishSchool.K. Gaining access to other students’ accounts, files, and/or dataL. Using chat rooms or social media not approved or managed by our school.M. Illegal installation of copyrighted materials (Plagiarism).N. Instant messaging servicesO. The use of your device by parents (for personal use), peers, friends, or siblingsIV. ResponsibilitiesA. Charge battery at home daily. In most cases, students will not be allowed to chargebattery at school during the school day.B. Students are allowed to set up wireless networks and printers at home.

C. If students leave their device at home, they are responsible for completing the coursework as if they had their device present.D. Students should immediately report any inappropriate material or tripped NetSpectivefilter to their teacher or school staff .E. Parents will report stolen device immediately to the Local Police Department and theschool administration. The school does not provide theft insurance. Replacement costsare responsibility of the parents.F. Students must request maintenance when needed. A loaner may be provided under thediscretion of the Technology staff or school administration.G. Printing will be available. Students will be given information and instruction on printingat school.H. The device will be in the possession of the student at all times with some exception:emergency drills, lunch time, bathrooms, locker rooms, outside activities, or specialclasses not requiring the 1:1 need.I. In the situations when the devise is not in the possession of the student, the devices willbe stored in a designated safe place in the school building.J. The sound on the device will be muted unless otherwise directed by the teacher.V. Student DisciplineStudents may receive a Warning for a minor Violation (IV). The following are examples,but not limited to: The device left at home Using the device when not instructed to do so Leaving the device behind in a classroom during the school day Low battery because of not charging at home the night before Unattended devices to the principal’s officeStudents may be placed on the following steps if a rule is violated under the “StrictlyProhibited” section: 1st Offense- Student will check-in and check-out the device daily from the schooladministration or the Technology Staff for a period of ONE full week. 2nd Offense- Student will check-in/check-out the device from the Technology Staffor School Administration for a period of TWO full weeks and complete aReflection Paper 3rd Offense- Student check-in/check-out the device from the Technology staff for alength of time; to be determined by the school administration.Students must provide their device for random and periodic inspections.The school accepts no responsibility for the loss of any software or documents due to are-format or re-image.VI. SMI Administration has the right to change or add to the above rules and regulations.Parents will be informed in a timely manner.
