Acceptance into the program is competitive. Twenty students areadmitted into the Dental Hygiene program annually.All applicants must meet minimum requirements and specific deadlines for ranking. Meetingminimum requirements d o e s not guarantee admission. Applicants who have completed minimumrequirements must attend an information session in order to be considered. The applicant is responsible forsubmitting a complete application packet. Students not admitted to the program that wish to be consideredfor the following year must re-apply.By law, the State Board of Dental Examiners may deny licensure for a v a r i e t y o f r e a s o n s . Theseinclude conviction of a felony or of a crime involving moral turpitude if the nature of the offense bearsdirectly on the fitness of the person to practice Dental Hygiene.2

Attend a mandatory Dental Hygiene Applicant Information Session (schedule included). Applicationwill not be ranked if not in attendance of one session.3. Take the mandatory BCCC placement tests (if applicable).*NEW * BCCC’s Biology Placement ExaminationBaltimore City Community College students applying for admission into programs in the School of Nursingand Health Professions only may be exempt from General Biology (BIO 101) by taking the Biology placementexamination. The exam will be administered in the Test Center, Main Building, Room 53 during thepublished testing hours. Please contact Ms. Henderson for further information.4. 4. Completed BCCC College Application must be submitted prior to applying to the program.Prerequisites for admission into the Dental Hygiene Program include:The following to be completed prior to the Spring Semester for Fall Pre-Clinicaladmission.1. All developmental coursework (math, reading and writing sequence) with a grade of“C” or better.2. Completion of PRE 100, ENG 101, BIO 107, BIO 212, and CHE 105.3. Overall G.P.A. of 2.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale (Applications will not be ranked ifG.P.A is lower than 2.5).4. A grade of “C” or better must be achieved in all science courses. Science courses mustbe completed within five (5) years of admission to the Dental Hygiene Program.5. Mandatory Dental Hygiene Information Session Attendance (must be present formandatory video).6. All applicants must take the current Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) (2attempt limit). Test scores must not be older than one year.7. All applicants must pass the Biology 101 Placement Exam (if applicable).8. All applicants must meet the college’s computer literacy requirement.9. Applications will be ranked according to the procedures above to determine their total points. Students with the highest total points will be accepted f o r t h e 2 0 s e a t s in ranked order. In case ofapplicants with the same number of total points, the applicant who has submitted h e r /hisapplication first will get the first consideration. Applications with requirements completed by the Fall deadline will be ranked f i r s t . Otherapplications may be considered for admissions if requirements will be completed by Spring (basedon seat availability). It is strongly recommended that students complete all non- DH/DS courses prior to acceptanceinto the Dental Hygiene Program.NOTE: To be considered, application must be received by the deadlinedate.Notification letters will be emailed in mid May. Applicants will have 5 days to formally declare their acceptanceto the program, no exceptions. If you do not meet the minimum requirements, were not accepted or you declinedyour admission, you must submit a new application if you wish to be considered for the next year. You mustalso attend another Mandatory Dental Hygiene Program Information Session.Do not contact the Dental Hygiene Department.
