IRSC Student Alumni AssociationSponsors Etiquette DinnerWhich glass is mine; which fork doI use for the salad; is that a soupspoon? All of us have experiencedthose pangs of ‘dread’ when attending abusiness social function that included a meal.Without experience and proper training, ourself confidence can really take a hit and causeus to put less than our best foot forward insuch situations. To fill that knowledge gap andgain confidence, the IRSC Student AlumniAssociation sponsored an Etiquette Dinnerfor interested IRSC students. Cindy Roden,Etiquette Specialist and owner of Handshakesand Dinner Plates, the etiquette school in VeroBeach, Florida, visited campus and presentedan educational dinner program on businessetiquette. Ann Decker, Executive Directorof the IRSC Foundation and IRSC AlumnaDiane Bohorquez played the roles of host andhonored guest respectively for instructionpurposes. The evening began with a tutorial onhow to give and receive a proper introductionand handshake. The students progressed tothe dining area where they enjoyed a fullcourse meal with instruction. As the studentswere served each course, Ms. Roden talkedabout the proper use of utensils, plates andglassware. She also covered how to engage intable conversation, the best (and worst!) foodsto choose at a business meal, how to make andrespond to a toast, as well as proper attire forsuch an occasion. The students left with a betterunderstanding of the “what and why” of moreformal social situations.WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT IRSC —ALUMNI GIVING OPPORTUNITIESThere are many opportunities foryou as Pioneer Alumni to “Payit Forward” and contribute tothe success of IRSC and our students. Please visit irscfoundation.org/s/4/ to choosethe gift that best suits your ideals and values.
