NotesThere are 100 songs in this songbook arranged (near as makes no difference) inalphabetical order. Hopefully this will be enough to get you through the worst delugethat the British Summer can throw at you. They range from the very simple (look foranything by Creedence Clearwater Revival) to the downright impossible (“WutheringHeights” from Kate Bush) with all stops in-between. I’ve tried to be as wide as possiblein the choice of musical genres and there is enough well-known material to balance outthe less well-known. There are some songs in here that I’m not all that fond of to behonest but there is obviously going to be a personal bias to stuff that I like. What youwon’t find is anything by the Beatles. We have a separate book coming out for theirsongs later, in Autumn 2018.Each song has a difficulty grading (on the Contents page):⓵Relatively simple. Not that many chords (usually fewer than 8).⓶Quite a bit trickier with quite a lot of scope for going wrong. Lots of chords.⓷Well hard. Will test the best players.Nearly all of these songsheets were derived from published music, rather than blaggingstuff from the internet. Some of the songsheets from the internet are truly hopelessand I would rather source the music properly and take it from there. That said, somesongs have modified chords and every songsheet is, in a sense, “ukulele adapted”;none of them are direct copies of the original - and they are not meant to be. Theukulele, with four strings (and hence only four notes per chord) has its limitations andchords such as [G13] , for example, are always going to be approximate on a uke. It’sapproximate enough on a guitar! Complicated arrangements and long instrumentalsare out too.All chords are in red in square brackets (e.g. [F7]). Chords are always placed as closeas possible to where they are needed but that is not always possible. Any instructionsare in curly brackets and also red and in italics (e.g. {quietly}). Musical terminology has,by and large, been avoided. Where there is a specific “second voice” part the secondpart is in normal brackets.I’ve also included chords (for GCEA tuned ukes) for each of the ⓵ or ⓶ songs and asmany of the ⓷ songs as possible. Sometimes there isn’t space for all the chords. Withthem, you are on your own. I haven’t included YouTube links for the songs. Simply go to YouTube and type the titlefollowed by the artist. It will almost certainly be there. I haven’t found any that aren’t.Alternatively, I’ve created a playlist on my YouTube channel. Just navigate to that andyou can access all the songs in the order they’re in the book.Enjoy!John TimneyJuly 2018 (in time for the glorious Summer of 2018)6
