This three-day course presentsmajor clinical topics in the field of Rheumatology to assist physicianspreparing for the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) SubspecialtyExamination in Rheumatology, and the practicing clinician seeking toimprove their care for rheumatology patients. Trainees preparing for theirinitial board exam — as well as rheumatologists who are candidates forABIM recertification — are the target audience. The diagnosis andmanagement of difficult and unusual clinical problems will be emphasized;an overview of important advances related to clinical rheumatology willalso be included. Nineteen lectures by distinguished clinician-professorswill be supplemented by a detailed syllabus to emphasize the issuesfrequently covered by qualifying examinations, as well as a review ofclinical and therapeutic updates. This course is presented by the Divisionof Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, and is sponsored by theUniversity of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.OBJECTIVESAn attendee completing this course will be able to: Follow appropriate standards of care when treating adult and pediatric patientswith rheumatic diseases (including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupuserythematosus, other systemic autoimmune diseases,auto inflammatory diseases, seronegative arthritis,osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, crystalline arthritis, backpain, fibromyalgia, and soft tissue pain syndromes); Make more accurate diagnoses based on the bestavailable data and expert guidance; Monitor the efficacy and safety of rheumaticdisease treatments; Utilize newly approved treatments appropriately basedon the latest medical evidence.ACCREDITATIONThe University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the AccreditationCouncil for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 20.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
