2/10MTTFD values Reliability characteristicsDetermination MTTFD values according to EN ISO 13849-1:2015Using reliability characteristics MTTFD (mean time todangerous failure) of components, the probability of adangerous failure per hour PFHd of a machine or system iscalculated and kept low, to a justifiable degree.For hydraulic components, the standardEN ISO 13849-1:2015 specifies an MTTFD value of at least150 years if the "basic" and "well-tried" safety principlesare complied with. The following is, for example,demanded for hydraulic valves used in safety-related partsof control systems: Automatic reaching of the basic position in case ofenergy failure Safe keeping of the basic position Sufficient overlap with spool valves in basic positionBosch Rexroth AG, RE 08012, edition: 2017-01Hydraulic components not satisfying the relevant safetyprinciples are not suitable to be used in safety-relatedparts of control systems.Rexroth has carefully tested their products with regard toall relevant "basic" and "well-tried" safety principlesaccording to a method acknowledged by IFA (Institute forOccupational Safety and Health of the German SocialAccident Insurance).

Reliability characteristics MTTFD values 3/10Compliance with safety principles, application notesThe products listed in the following are suitable to be usedin safety-related parts of a control system according toEN ISO 13849-1:2015.According to EN ISO 13849-2:2012, the products satisfythe basic safety principles well-tried safety principles.For evaluating and interpreting the control system'sreliability, use the following characteristics for theproducts:MTTFD see table page 4 9TM 20 years (maximum period of use according toEN ISO 13849-1:2016)In this use, please ensure compliance with thesubsequently specified application notes!Application notes:The following basic safety principles according toEN ISO 13849-2:2012 for the implementation and theoperation of the products are to be complied with. For operation and handling of the products, complywith the information in the data sheet and theoperating instructions. Only use the hydraulic fluids specified in the datasheets and comply with the oil cleanliness class for thewhole period of use. If switching spool valves are not actuated for a longerperiod of time, the spool may get stuck. We thereforerecommend switching the valve regularly, at reasonabletime intervals. If you use the product for safety-related structures withhigher categories (2 to 5) according toEN ISO 13849-1:2015 section 6, consider therequirements (e.g. CCF, DC, PLr, software, systematicerrors) specified there. According to EN ISO 13849-1:2015, the maximummission time - complying with the oil cleanlinessaccording to ISO 4406:1999 - is TM 20 years. In termsof preventative maintenance, it is recommendedreplacing the components already before expiry of themaximum period of use. Industrial valves are usually designed for 10 millionswitching cycles. In the table (page 5 and 8), thesevalves are marked with the comment "Switch off OBEvoltage supply".
