The designation PSL 3G is utilized only in those clauses, subclauses and tables where it is necessary to define theadditional gas testing requirements of equipment that can be gastested.PSL 4 includes all the requirements of PSL 3G plus certainadditional requirements and is intended for applications thatexceed the service conditions usually identified within the scope ofthis International Standard, and is normally used only for primaryequipment.Figure A.14 shows the recommended specification level forprimary equipment. Primary equipment of a wellhead assemblyincludes the following, as a minimum: tubing head tubing hanger tubing-head adapter lower master valveAll other wellhead parts are classified as secondary. Thespecification level for secondary equipment may be the same as orless than the level for primary equipment. The selection of a PSL should be based on a quantitative riskanalysis, which is a formal and systematic approach to identifyingpotentially hazardous events and estimating the likelihood andconsequences to people, environment and resources, of accidentsdeveloping from these events.Copyright 2012 – API-American Petroleum Institute6A-12
