The SBOE regularly reviews and updates the TEKS.TexasEssentialKnowledgeand Skills(TEKS)Texas Administrative Code,Chapters 110-118, 126-128,and 130 New K-8 TEKS for English and Spanish languagearts and reading will be implemented inclassrooms in 2019-2020. Streamlined social studies TEKS for K-12 areexpected to be implemented in 2019-2020(depending upon final approval by the SBOE inNovember). New high school TEKS for English language artsand reading and ESOL are expected to beimplemented in 2020-2021.The current TEKS are the required curriculumstandards and will remain in TAC until the newTEKS are implemented.The new reading and language arts TEKS areindicated in the TAC with “Adopted 2017” in thetitle.COPYRIGHT TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY, 2018. English Language Proficiency Standards(ELPS) for English language learners(ELLs) are required to be included foreach subject in the required curriculum. Prekindergarten Guidelines arevoluntary. Successful course completion and theaward of credit is based ondemonstrated proficiency of the TEKS.OtherConsiderationsTexas Administrative Code,Chapter 74, Subchapter C Students may enroll in high schoolcourses in grades earlier than grade 9. Dual credit courses may be offered inpartnership with a state college oruniversity. A memorandum ofunderstanding (MOU) or articulationagreement is required.
