So . Nature does not care about whetherwe live or die or are here. The “soft rains” inthe poem are the rains of spring- life givingwhile the “soft rains” in the story are thedeadly radioactive fallout from an atomicbomb. The poem is about the destruction ofcivilization, which is parallel to the story. Inboth cases, only nature is left to witness thedestruction.
