Tonight’s Agenda Introductions District Vision Differentiation vs.Enrichment Enrichment Programs

Last year, a sub-committee was established at theDistrict level to create a shared vision for the GATEprogram. (Group consisted of parents, teachers, andadministrators) Vision will address expectations and specificactivities to help school sites build upon. Vision will answer what it means to be GATE andwhat GATE students/families should expect fromthe program?

Differentiated Instruction Meeting the needs of GATE students throughdifferentiated classroom instruction. Enrichment Programs or opportunities for GATE studentsoutside of their classroom.

Classroom Instruction Differentiated learning plans can be created by theclassroom teacher If interested, ask to create a differentiated learning plan. Combined with the 4 Depths of Knowledge levels fromroutine and conceptual thinking, to strategic andextended reasoning.

Universal Access Flexible grouping and done weekly to target the learningneeds of GATE/advanced, proficient, underperforming,and English learner students. Can be accomplished in a classroom setting or throughgrade level rotations. A district initiative and the perfect opportunity to deliverGATE instruction.

Content (Wonders Curriculum) Various Depth and Complexity levels provided; to beused during small group instruction and with the digitalcomponents from ConnectEd Thinking Skills Development Leveled readersLiterature circles,Independent studies/synthesizing information learnedFocus on science and social studies so students can extend theirknowledge of topics studied

Battle of the Books Accelerated Reader STEAM Lab (Science, Technology, Engineering,Architecture, and Math) School-wide STEAM night Classroom activities implemented by teacher After School Courses Art, robotics, language Participation is optional

GATE after-school monthly workshops Ferris Wheel FrenzyParticipation is optionalPermission slip to be sent home at the end of SeptemberField Trip TBD (January or February)
